Ever heard the rumor that working on a soap opera is one of the toughest acting jobs out there? Well, according to some industry insiders like “Days of our Lives’” casting director Marnie Saitta, “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” John McCook (Eric Forrester), “General Hospital’s” Anthony Geary, and “The Young and the Restless’” Max Ehrich (Fenmore Baldwin), daytime gigs are some of the toughest jobs to land — and keep, as well!

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is set to formally announce a list of individuals scheduled to attend as presenters for the 41st Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards later today, Soap Opera Network has learned. The list includes several of daytime’s biggest and brightest stars, past and present, and a number of behind the scenes talents from “All My Children,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “One Life to Live” and “The Young and the Restless,” among other forms of daytime programming.

For the ninth consecutive year CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” received a nomination for the Monte Carlo Television Festival’s International TV Audience Awards, which honors programs that garnered the highest number of viewers worldwide in 2013 across five continents. “B&B” is nominated in the “Telenovela/Soap Opera” category. To coincide with its nomination, the soap has announced the addition of Australian actress Ashleigh Brewer (ex- Kate Ramsay, “Neighbours”) to its cast in the newly created contract role of Ivy Forrester, who is the niece of patriarch Eric Forrester (John McCook).

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” will once again welcome Hunter Tylo back to its canvas as the storyline of Aly (Ashlyn Pearce) dealing with the death of her mother, Darla (Schae Harrison), continues to play out on screen and kicks into high gear particularly during May Sweeps. It seems like just yesterday that the world was ready to nail the lid on the coffin of daytime soap operas. Ratings were low across the board, and a slew of sudsers — “Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns,” “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” — were cancelled, leaving only “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” on the air. But to the surprise of critics and many soap fans, 2013 saw a drastic turnaround: All four remaining soap operas saw a significant increase in ratings, and “The Young and the Restless” once again made a list of the top 10 most-searched television programs of the year, among popular series like “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead.” So why the complete 180 in daytime soap popularity?

We’re guessing you’re sad that Christmas is over. So are we! Multiple Emmy-nominee Thorsten Kaye won the hearts of soap opera audiences with his strong portrayal of “All My Children’s” Zach Slater, “One Life to Live’s” Patrick Thornhart and “Port Charles’” Ian Thornhart, but can the actor strike gold again as Ronn Moss’ replacement in the role of “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Ridge Forrester? It won’t be the first time an actor has walked into the shoes of a major character whose previous portrayer is very much loved in the role, but then again, these aren’t just any old shoes to fill! Soap Opera Network caught up with Ridge’s onscreen dad, John McCook (Eric Forrester), who’s not only been working with Kaye as Ridge since day one, but who’s also quite familiar with the father/son dynamic the two characters have established over the years. Read on to get his take on the bold recasting choice, how he views Kaye’s approach to the role and what’s in store for Eric and Ridge in the weeks ahead!

“The Young and the Restless” will air a special tribute episode to the late Jeanne Cooper on Tuesday, May 28 (12:30-1:30 PM, ET; 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, PT) on the CBS Television Network. Cast members and friends of the beloved actress, including Melody Thomas Scott, Christian Le Blanc, Tracey E. Bregman, Eric Braeden and “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” John McCook and Heather Tom, as well as family members such as her son, Corbin Bernsen, recently gathered on set to shoot a celebration of the life of their late friend, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 84.
