Is Dena Higley‘s reign as co-head writer of “Days of our Lives” over before it even hits the air? According to a report by Daytime Confidential last week, Higley asked for, and was granted, a leave of absence from the show citing personal reasons.

As previously reported, “General Hospital” will soon be saying goodbye to scribe Ron Carlivati and hello again to co-head writers Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante when the team officially takes over writing duties next month, with material not expected to fully hit the screen until mid-October, according to insiders. But what forced ABC to make a change in its writing regime? Ratings, of course! Thirteen consecutive weeks of ratings lows that is.

With 13 consecutive weeks of record low ratings in the key Women 18-49 sales demo, ABC announced today that it has decided to oust “General Hospital’s” current head writer, Ron Carlivati, and replace him with newly appointed co-head writers Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante. The duo, who will officially take over writing reins beginning Monday, August 10, previously served together in the same capacity at CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” up until January of this year. They won two consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team for their work on “Y&R” during their tenure.

After several months of disastrous ratings returns that has left many in the industry wondering if “Days of our Lives” would survive its next renewal talks between NBC, Sony Pictures Television and Corday Productions, producers of the soap, the daytime drama series will welcome back veteran writer Dena Higley, and former “One Life to Live” and “The Young and the Restless” head writer Josh Griffith, as its new head writers. The two replace outgoing head writers Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell.

You met the three finalists for the next male model search currently underway at CBS’ “The Price is Right,” via their appearance on the Monday, December 1 edition of CBS’ “The Talk,” but what does the game show’s first male model, Robert Scott Wilson (Ben Ridgeway, “Days of our Lives”; ex-Pete Cortlandt, “All My Children”) have to say about another person taking on his former daytime role? The actor recently spoke with Soap Opera Network about his experience on the game show, what it was like helping judge the competition, and responds to comments made about him by “Price is Right” executive producer, Mike Richards.

“One Life to Live” fans had the privilege of literally watching Kristen Alderson grow up via her portrayal of Starr Manning, a role she landed back in 1998. And “General Hospital” fans then had the unique privilege of watching the actress shed the character she’d played for nearly 14 years on OLTL and embody her new character — Kiki Jerome — right before their eyes. The journey has been filled with a lot of ups and downs, but Alderson recently shared with Soap Opera Network that Kiki is finally coming into her own — which she couldn’t be more thrilled about!

Jen Lilley is well aware that she hit soap opera gold when she landed the role of “Days of our Lives'” Theresa Donovan. The feisty character has gotten one stellar storyline after the next — and it doesn’t look like the runaway train will be stopping any time soon! Soap Opera Network caught up with actress, who spilled the deets on Theresa’s rivalry with Kristen (Eileen Davidson), her love/hate relationship with sister Eve (Kassie DePaiva), and how her alter ego just may well be done with her current love life once and for all!

You don’t have to be a criminal to know that “Criminal Minds” star Shemar Moore is gonna steal the show on “The Young and the Restless” this week when he returns as the very popular character Malcolm Winters. And it’ll happen for good reason: The storyline that brings him back is filled with drama, tears and heart wrenching emotion. But don’t take our word for it: Moore himself opened up about the touching moments that will play out when he appears in Genoa City on Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11!

Being that “Days of our Lives’” Marlena Evans is not only one of the most compassionate, understanding and accepting characters in daytime, but also a bona fide psychiatrist, it’s no surprise that people across America wish they could sit down with the character and have her advise on all of life’s most difficult questions and conundrums. That may be impossible (unless one could somehow magically pop into Salem), but Marlena’s alter ego, Deidre Hall, is offering the next best thing: She is currently taking to video to answer fans’ questions on her website!

Get ready to drop it like it’s hot, because “The Young and the Restless’” Shemar Moore was in the house (Neil’s house, specifically) to talk about his upcoming return as Malcolm Winters — and the heat really is too much to handle! From stepping back into Genoa City, to reuniting with his daytime counterparts, to details regarding the new season of his hit primetime series, “Criminal Minds,” the actor spilled every fiery little detail. So read on… if you dare!
