A week after word leaked that Ronn Moss (Ridge Forrester) opted not to renew his contract, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” now in its 26th season, has worked overtime to not lose another member of its “core four” (the soaps four original cast members).

On Saturday, August 18, Lee Phillip Bell (pictured right, with William J. Bell) and Michael Maloney (Soaps in Depth), co-authors of “The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell” will be signing copies of their book at Barnes & Nobles Ventura from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM PT.

While millions of fans may love the tantalizing tales of the Forrester’s and the Logan’s on CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” many of them may not think twice about what it takes to make the world’s most watched daytime soap opera come alive each and every weekday. In a new book released earlier this month by Sourcebooks, entitled “Becoming Bold & Beautiful: 25 Years of Making the World’s Most Popular Daytime Soap Opera” with foreword by the soaps “core four” Susan Flannery, John McCook, Ronn Moss and Katherine Kelly Lang, the hardcover release provides detailed insight from the 1987 debut year of the soap to present day. Included throughout are over 200 photographs featuring cast and crew members on Stage 31 of CBS Television City in Los Angeles, and on location in Malibu, Cabo San Lucas, and Aspen.

When history is re-created to tell a new tale on a daytime soap opera some of us can’t help but groan at the mere thought, especially when history is mined by use of re-created flashback scenes. Sure, we love that stories continue day-to-day, but ultimately we don’t expect it to truly have much impact in today’s storied world. As “General Hospital” celebrated its 52nd anniversary earlier today, with re-created flashback scenes with several of its current cast playing yesterday’s important characters, one can’t help but be amazed at how far we’ve come in our quest for drama on screen, be it scripted or reality. The lack of shootouts, sex scenes, romantic triangles, catfights, or whatever passes for drama today, took a back seat to character driven story.
