Although a “Days of our Lives” representative was unavailable for comment to Soap Opera Network, Soap Opera Digest is reporting what The Huffington Post originally reported, which is Lisa Rinna is returning to the NBC soap in the role of Billie Reed. The actress originated the role in 1992, nearly twenty years ago.

Earlier today, Soap Opera Digest shocked the soap world when it reported that after five years on “Days of our Lives,” actor James Scott (EJ DiMera) would soon be vacating Salem after a contract dispute with show producers Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television hit a snag, now hours later like sands through the hourglass, Scott’s “DAYS” have changed.

John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) is branching out from his daytime role on “One Life to Live.” In addition to co-starring alongside his real and reel life girlfriend Farah Fath (Gigi) in the upcoming E! series “Dirty Soap,” Lavoisier has also landed a guest starring role in the CBS primetime series “The Mentalist.”

As we first reported last night, thanks to a tweet from a “One Life to Live” crew member, it was looking as if Amanda Setton, who currently plays Penelope Shafai on “Gossip Girl,” was making her way back to Llanview as the former stripper and Buchanan wife Kimberly Andrews. This afternoon, both Soap Opera Digest and ABC Soaps in Depth confirmed the news, stating that the actress was indeed returning to Llanview.

On Thursday, May 12, Soap Opera Network broke news when we reported that layoffs occurred earlier this week at Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly after American Media, Inc. officially took over editorial, advertising, marketing and distribution control of both publications from Source Interlink Companies, which retains ownership of both titles. Now comes word that Lynn Leahey, Editorial Director of both magazines along with lesser known title Pixie, is stepping down. We’re told it was her decision.

While “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” were receiving worldwide attention after it was announced that ABC had decided be cancel both series on the afternoon of what is now known as Black Thursday (April 14), magazine publisher Source Interlink quietly made noise of its own that very morning when it announced it would be laying off more than half of its employees working on popular magazines Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly. Now comes word that the company, which handed over editorial, advertising, marketing and distribution control of the magazine’s to American Media, which runs such rags as The National Enquirer, has officially laid off the affected individuals.

Earlier today, Soap Opera Digest posted breaking news on their website when they reported that actress Cady McClain would be returning to ABC’s “All My Children” in the role of Dixie Cooney. Shortly afterward, Soaps in Depth posted their own version of the news. Who to believe? At this point, it doesn’t matter as long as Dixie’s back! Then again, Cady did return in early 2010 when Dixie, who died via poisoned pancakes (what were the writers thinking?), and her ghost/spirit was used to usher out Palmer Cortlandt, who had “died” on the soap a few months after his real-life portrayer, James Mitchell, passed away.

NBC’s “Days of our Lives” has cast newcomer Bren Foster in the contract role of Quinn, a character previously known as Fletcher in a recent casting call according to Soap Opera Digest. The character is described as being a “charming businessman with an edge. He can be clean cut or not. He is sexy, mysterious and savvy, has an easy way with the ladies but can be formidable if crossed.” The World Tae Kwon Do Champion’s first airdate will be in May and he’ll share his first scenes with Nadia Bjorlin’s Chloe Lane.

After 72 years on air between radio and television, CBS’s “Guiding Light” will cease broadcasting on the CBS Television Network due to low ratings. Love may save the world, but apparently it wasn’t enough to save television’s longest running daytime drama. Even with having its name published in the Guinness World Record Book and winning three Daytime Emmy’s for Best Drama Series (the most recent being in 2007), “GL” found itself unable to withstand the mass exodus of viewers from the traditional daytime soap format in recent years.

Former “As The World Turns” bad boy Shawn Christian joins the cast of “Days of our Lives” as Salem University Hospital’s newest hot doctor.
