Ratings Report for the Week of June 16-20, 2014
One week ago today, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) presented “The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA, which aired exclusively on the internet for the first time.
After taking home 9 Daytime Emmy Awards last weekend, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team, CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is gearing up for one HOT summer of fun. In a newly released promo highlighting the debut of a new rooftop set, Dive Bar, several of the soap’s hottest stars including Joshua Morrow (Nicholas Newman), Sharon Case (Sharon Newman), Camryn Grimes (Mariah), Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman), Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby), Christel Khalil (Lily Winters Ashby), Hunter King (Summer Newman), Matthew Atkinson (Austin Travers), Kelli Goss (Courtney Sloan), Robert Adamson (Noah Newman), Sean Carrigan (Stitch Rayburn), Bryton James (Devon Hamilton), Mishael Morgan (Hillary Curtis) and daytime newcomer Burgess Jenkins (Billy Abbott), appear in their sexiest beachwear as they live it up in the beautiful skies of Genoa City this summer.
On Tuesday, June 24, Genoa City said hello again to a familiar name with a new face. On that day, daytime newcomer Burgess Jenkins took over the role of Billy Abbott on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” from David Tom, who himself succeeded three-time Daytime Emmy Award winning actor Billy Miller in the popular role, but how did Jenkins land himself on daytime’s most watched drama series? “My management called me and they were talking to me about this role, and when they sent me the breakdown on the character, I just fell in love. I absolutely fell in love with Billy,” said Jenkins when Soap Opera Network spoke with the actor in the gifting suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA as part of Daytime Emmy weekend. “There’s not a whole lot of characters you see that are so multi-layered and interesting that way. I had a chance to meet with the producers to discuss the character and the show, and it just seemed like a good fit,” added Jenkins, who noted that the conversation he had with producers on the character helped give him something to dig into before the cameras began to roll.
After nearly a year in a coma, CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” will once again say hello to Phyllis Summers when daytime veteran Gina Tognoni takes over the role beginning Monday, August 11, Soap Opera Network has learned exclusively. In our tribute to the character as she gets ready to wake up for the first time in the coming weeks, we take a look back at what Phyllis has missed while she was sleeping, including what former loves Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) have been up to since last seeing their favorite feisty redhead.
Eileen Davidson — who’s now on contract as Ashley Abbott on “The Young and the Restless,” but was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress for her work as “Days of our Lives'” Kristen DiMera — took a cue from the statue she ended up winning at the end of the night. Just like the golden award, she sparkled on the red carpet during the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Soap Opera Network’s 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards red carpet coverage continues, this time with “The Young and the Restless'” Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Chloe Mitchell), who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Her co-star, Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman), may have taken home the award at the end of the night, but Hendrickson was shining like a winner on the red carpet!
Everyone loves a comeback, and it’s no different in the case of the rumor that the Queen of Soaps, Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane, “All My Children”), managed to get Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart) fired from the sudser back in the 90s. Though the rumor is quite ancient in the daytime industry, it’s getting a second life on sites like Us Weekly and Perez Hilton thanks to a comment Kathy Griffin made as host of the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards live webcast on Sunday, June 22.
