TVGN is proving why it’s now the “the new way to watch soaps.” With the network already picking up encore airing rights to “The Young and the Restless” this past summer, and “The Bold and the Beautiful” earlier this month, the network plans to provide soap fans with even more “soap” for their viewing pleasure courtesy of the new documentary, “Who Shot the Daytime Soap?” Airing Monday, December 16 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, preceded by airings of “B&B” at 6:30 PM ET/PT and “Y&R” at 7:00 PM ET/PT, the documentary tackles the history of daytime soap operas as told by those who were there during the good times, the bad times and the new times.

“The past five years have seen a collapse of epic proportion within the soap opera industry. What was once a formidable lineup of no less than 14 network soap operas in the 1980′s has collapsed to just four – ‘General Hospital’ on ABC, ‘Days of our Lives’ on NBC and ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ on CBS and now TVGN,” is the opening statement from the documentary that features interviews with several daytime legends, veteran stars, and a host of talents from behind the scenes that have helped make the soap opera genre the longest running form of television entertainment.

As previously reported, Tristan Rogers will soon be departing ABC’s “General Hospital” after his most recent stint as Robert Scorpio comes to an end. With his pending return to CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” in the new year, Rogers recently announced on Twitter his final film date at “GH” and his first film date back at “Y&R.”

While announcing his plans to vacation in Australia during the Christmas holiday break, Rogers revealed that he films his last scenes at “GH” on Thursday, December 19 and will begin filming scenes as his “Y&R” character, Colin Atkinson, beginning Wednesday, January 8. Viewers should expect to see the actor continue airing on “GH” through at least February, as noted by head writer Ron Carlivati. A first airdate on “Y&R” is not yet known. “I am passionate about daytime drama. Where ever I work. I want to do the best I can. So lets be bipartisan and support the genre,” said Rogers on moving from one soap to another.

 OBSERVATION

On Monday, September 26, 2011, ABC premiered a new daytime talk show that brought food back to the table and into our everyday lives. Now in its third season, “The Chew” is currently enjoying one of its highest rated on record in both total viewers and key women sales demos. As the talk show celebrated its 500th episode yesterday, fans of the ABC version of “All My Children” continued to mourn the loss of their favorite daytime soap opera, which made Susan Lucci, and her character Erica Kane, a household name.

Hosted by celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Michael Symon, and Carla Hall, entertaining expert Clinton Kelly and health and wellness enthusiast Daphne Oz, “The Chew’s” celebratory episode featured a food-filled party that included an assortment of games, on-air memories and a cake to help honor the talkers achievement. Meanwhile, “All My Children” fans are trying to find ways to heal from the recent blow by Prospect Park to not move forward with a new season of its version of “All My Children,” which consistently topped the iTunes and Hulu charts during its 40+ episode run. The production company is suing ABC over claims the network was looking to create a “mega soap” with “Chew” lead-out “General Hospital.” Prospect Park co-founder Jeff Kwatinetz recently decided to take his own company to court over contract matters directly related to “AMC” and sister soap “One Life to Live.”

Investigation Discovery announced today that it has greenlit a third season of its hit series, “Deadly Affairs.” Hosted by Susan Lucci (“All My Children”), the series provides audiences with titillating tales of murder and mayhem after relationships begin to falter. The program was one of ID’s top five shows in the 3rd quarter of 2013 in Women 25-54, Women 18-49 and Persons 25-54. In P2+, “Affairs” reached over 9.7 million unique viewers. The new season will premiere in summer 2014.

“We just can’t get enough of Susan Lucci — our affair with her is out in the open and we couldn’t be happier to continue for a third season,” said Henry Schleiff, Group President, Investigation Discovery, Military Channel and Destination America.  “Our viewers are often tempted by the suspense of ‘will they or won’t they?’ — and with ‘Deadly Affairs,’ we already know they did — and they probably shouldn’t have!”

She may be the Queen of Soaps, but Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane, “All My Children;” Genevieve Delatour, “Devious Maids”) didn’t let the royal title stop her from donning quite a peculiar piece of clothing during her time in the “AMC” spotlight.

The Emmy-winning actress attended the NFL Women’s Apparel’s fashion presentation Tuesday at Grand Central Terminal in New York, where she not only wowed in a sequined New York Giants top and glittery floor length skirt, but also revealed her quirkiest item of clothing. “I don’t want to get rid of it; I’ve had it a long time,” she tells Newsday. “It’s a little yellow cropped jacket and it’s a life vest — it has lights and a whistle — and when things got really long and crazy at work on ‘All My Children,’ I would put on my life vest.”

Not exactly the crown you’d expect from La Lucci, but then again, you just never know when it comes to her and fashion — especially because her couture mantra is to be quite daring. “Don’t be afraid to try things,” she urges. “You’ll know if it works, and if it doesn’t, at least you’ve tried.”

Longtime “All My Children” fans couldn’t believe it when news broke that Michael Nader would be bringing his popular alter ego, Dimitri Marick, back to the show. And even though it’s been over a month since his June 12 onscreen debut, it’s still a little bit hard to believe that he’s really back in Pine Valley — even for the actor himself! And it turns out, it was a return that nearly didn’t happen.

“I got a call from my daughter, who said, ‘Dad, I just got an email from someone named Ginger in regards to ‘All My Children.’ She wants to talk to you,” says the actor about how he and executive producer Ginger Smith got in contact. “And lo and behold, [Ginger] said, ‘I’d been trying to find you for three weeks, and I just told the writers that mostly likely I’m going to have to pull off of writing for you, because we couldn’t find you. You’ve been well hidden, Mr. Michael.’”

Susan Lucci has been busy filming “Devious Maids” and “Deadly Affairs,” all the while trying to swing by her old stomping grounds, “All My Children,” where she played Erica Kane from 1970 to 2011.
