‘Another World’ Finds New Life Online

( — A decade after its demise, “Another World” breathes new life on the web.

TeleNext Media, the company that produces “As the World Turns” and the recently canceled “Guiding Light” for Procter & Gamble and CBS, has announced that they will be launching a new website dedicated to the defunct sudser “Another World,” which was canceled in 1999. The site,, will provide fans with insight into what their favorite characters have been up to in the past decade.

The move comes on the heels of better than expected viewership of classic “AW” episodes on According to Alina Adams, creative content producer for TeleNext Media, “People still have warm, nostalgic feelings for the show. ‘AW’ ushered a lot of fans into the world of daytime drama. It was their gateway drug. They miss it and they want more.”

Chapter one of the blog is set to debut on May 4th, the 45th anniversary of “AW’s” premiere, with the presumed dead Grant Harrison returning to town to visit his son. Also, Felicia Grant and her friends Dean and Jenna all mysteriously disappear while visiting New York City. Further chapters are expected to follow on a regular basis.

In addition to reading the latest chapter of “Another World Today,” fans can also read updates on popular “AW” characters, view classic clips from the soap, and vote following the conclusion of each week’s webisode, where they think the storyline should go next. The site also promises that, in the near future, fans will “be able to contribute original story ideas, write dialogue, create (or bring back) characters and win prizes for doing so!”

“Another World” was the brainchild of “Guiding Light” creator Irna Phillips and her one-time scribe William J. Bell, who would go on to create “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” “Another World” premiered on May 4th, 1964 on NBC, and enjoyed a long and successful run, before coming to an end on June 25th, 1999. In its 35 year history, the soap tackled a number of controversial storylines, including abortion and having children out of wedlock. Starting out as a thirty minute daytime serial, “AW” expanded to sixty minutes in 1975. However, it briefly converted to an unheard of ninety minutes from 1979-1980, before returning to the more traditional hour long format. The show also spawned two spin-offs, “Somerset” (1970-76) and “Texas” (1980-82). Although “AW” was considered a sister soap to “As the World Turns,” there were no crossovers over references made between the two soaps given the fact that “AW” aired on NBC and “ATWT” on CBS. This was due to the fact that CBS had no room for the start-up soap on their daytime schedule. However a shrewd Phillips managed to sell “AW” to NBC after removing all references to “ATWT” from the new soap’s storylines.

“Another World” can claim a long list of big name celebrities as alumni, including Christine Baranski, Faith Ford, Morgan Freeman, Kelsey Grammar, Jackee Harry, Anne Hache, Lindsay Lohan, Rue McClanahan, Ed O’Neal, Luke Perry, Brad Pitt, Kim Rhodes, Ted Shackleford, Susan Sullivan, and Jean Smart. Major guest stars included Dick Cavett, Crystal Gayle, Liberace, Joan Rivers, Al Roker, and Betty White.

New installments of “Another World Today” are scheduled to be broadcast on the website on a weekly basis beginning in May. Visit for more information.

( — “One Life to Live” casting tidbits for the month of May and beyond. Despite rumors to the contrary, Erika Slezak, the matriarch of Llanview, still has ‘Life to Live.’ In recent months, rumors have surfaced claiming that the 38-year vet had been unceremoniously and abruptly fired from “OLTL.” However, a spokesperson for the show assures us that neither Ms. Slezak nor Viki is going anywhere anytime soon, and that she will play a major part in the upcoming conclusion to the baby Chloe storyline during May sweeps. In fact, word has it that Viki will be the one to place the baby into the arms of her real mother.

But will those arms belong to Starr Manning or Marcie McBain? When asked that very question by a fan on her MySpace page, recently terminated “OLTL” actress Kathy Brier responded that “You have to watch to see what happens until about June 10thish……” To further complicate matters, Jen Sullivan, mother of triplets Tess, Molly, and and Madeline Sullivan, who portray baby Chloe Brenan, has listed the several upcoming airdates for the babies on her blog. Those dates are May 20th, 21st, 26th, 28th, and 29th, along with June 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 11th. The last date listed is June 12th, which mirrors the suspected final airdates for Brier and her on-screen husband Chris Stack (Michael McBain). Mere coincidence or something more? Only time will tell. In related news, Brier said that she learned of her dismissal from “OLTL” as she was boarding a plane back to the Big Apple following a recent fan event and that she was disappointed but “that’s show business.”

Robin Strasser is to have recently announced on her hotline (212-414-5300) that if “OLTL” decides to drop her to recurring status when her contract is up in October, that she would leave Llanview in a heartbeat and enjoy some much needed R & R in New Orleans and Paris.

Kassie DePaiva has returned from her six week personal leave, and is back taping at the “One Life” studios. Look for Mrs. Blair Cramer McBain to become heavily involved in the KAD serial killer storyline during the month of May.

Don’t look for Timothy D. Sitckney to be sticking around Llanview much longer as RJ Gannon.  The actor is preparing for yet another Canadian Shakespeare festival, which usually run for at least six months at a time.  According to Head Writer Ron Carlivati, “just when I was ready to bring RJ on and give him tons of stuff to do, it turns out he really wasn’t available to us.”  However, he mentions that the door is always open for Stickney to return whenever he is available.

“OLTL” is in the process of casting the role of Abraham. Remember that the ABC soap routinely tries to throw off viewers by changing character names in these audition scripts. Anyway, the scene begins when ‘Abraham’ informs ‘Tom Murray’ that he is the proprietor of the club, and that he and Mrs. Murray need to settle their tab. Tom’s wife ‘Barbara’ informs Abraham that he has just interrupted a close moment between her and husband, and asks if they can discuss the issue later. However, Abraham declares that the matter needs to be dealt with immediately, to which Tom responds that their has been some miscommunication. Abraham then goes on to say that he knows that the Murrays do not have a grandson, and blasts the couple for trying to put one over on him. After alerting security, Tom and Barbara are placed in handcuffs on the spot. Barbara asks to take a few clothes with them, but Abraham insists that he will just add it to their tab. He demands the book be thrown at them, and proceeds to read a laundry list of their transgressions, the most serious of which was pretending to be the grandson and granddaughter-in-law of Mr. Murray. Following his ranting, ‘Sam’ (one of the cops), assures Abraham that justice will be served. The role appears to be minor, and likely only recurring or a dayplayer.

Daytime Talent Manager Michael Bruno has a blurb posted on his website, indicating that one of his clients has screen tested for a role on “One Life to Live,” although he does not reveal the identity of the actor involved.

Jessica Kaye first airs as Rebecca Lewis on May 1st, despite the fact that IMDb lists the actress as portraying someone named Veronica and having already aired on March 25th and April 24th, 27th, and 28th. Although it does list May 15th as a future airdate.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Evangeline Williamson (last portrayed by Renee Elise Goldsberry) is not returning to Llanview at this time, despite some rather coy remarks by “OLTL” Head Scribe Ron Carlivati earlier this month when asked about a potential roadblock to the Cristian/Layla pairing. Evan Joiner is back as Asher the pill pusher on May 13th, when his actions catch up with with him, but not before he gets mixed up with a certain Llanview teen (and no, it’s not Cole). And Bess, Jessica’s overprotective alternate personality, makes another appearance on May 21st.

“One Life to Live” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

alt ( — After playing the role of Lily Snyder on CBS’ “As The World Turns” off-and-on for 23 years, actress Martha Byrne is now heading to Port Charles to play along-side John Bolger as the wife of Mayor Floyd (Bolger) reports

Over the weekend buzz was growing that Byrne would be heading to “GH” in a then unknown role. SOAPnet spoke with Jason Thompson during the ABC Daytime/SOAPnet sponsored Stagecoach, and he shared his thoughts on the news.

“I’m really excited, there’s a lot of good stuff coming. I just heard that Martha Byrne is going to be joining the show, which is great. It’s always good to have someone shake things up — and especially when it’s someone who’s had such a distinguished career in daytime,” says Thompson.

Storyline details are being kept underwraps, but let’s hope that Byrne’s character won’t have to suffer at the hands of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his minions like so many characters who had potential had to.

Recently, Byrne has been playing her hand as a writer on CBS’  ”The Bold and the Beautiful.” She wrote the April 14 episode of the soap.

“I sent [head writer] Brad Bell some writing samples to get his feedback, and I got an e-mail saying he loved the material and wanted me to write a spec script for ‘B&B,’” said Byrne to Carolyn Hinsey in the April 10 Edition of the New York Daily News. “Based on that spec, I got a trial deal with the show.”

It is unclear at this time as to whether Byrne’s role on “GH” will conflict with any future possibilities she may have with “B&B,” but in any case, we’re glad to have the actress/writer back in daytime.

In 2008, Byrne left “ATWT” after a contract dispute with show producers. Noelle Beck took over the role of Lily Snyder in May 2008.

In addition to her work on “ATWT,” Byrne has appeared as a guest-star in such series as “Murder, She Wrote” and “Silk Stalkings.” She is also an Executive Producer for the short film “Bye Bye Sally,” which is set for release later this year.

“General Hospital” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

          Bonner Leaves Llanview for Springfield

Sunday, April 26, 2009 2:45 PM ET | By Scotty Gore

( — Only two days after she made her final appearance on “One Life to Live,” BethAnn Bonner lands a role on the recently canceled “Guiding Light.”

Bonner, who debuted in Llanview on December 21, 2006 as Officer Talia Sahid, was recently fired by “OLTL,” in what appears to be a cost cutting move which also involved co-stars Chris Stack and Kathy Brier (Michael and Marcie Walsh McBain), along with Camila Banus and A. Martinez (Lola and Ray Montez). Although her character Talia did not play a major role in many of the show’s storylines, she was involved in several plots during her time in Llanview including investigating the One Pure People white supremacist group and the KAD serial killer, as well named the Princess of Mendorra during one of “OLTL’s” special 40th anniversary storylines last July. In addition, Talia was romantically involved with police detective Antonio Vega and revealed to be the biological daughter of popular villian Carlo Hesser.

Bonner was offered a role on “OLTL” after competing on SOAPnet’s “I Wanna Be a Soap Star 3″ in the summer of 2006, which afforded the winner of the competition with a thirteen week contract on the show. Although the contest was won by Mikey Jerome (who portrayed Vincent Jones’ hired thug Ted Osborne), producers at “One Life” were so impressed with Bonner that they quickly signed her to a contract as well. In a twist of irony, Bonner outlasted Jerome in Llanview, whose character was quietly killed off in a fire off-camera at the end of conclusion of his thirteen week stint. In addition to her role on “OLTL,” Bonner also appeared as herself in a 2007 episode of “The Fashionista Diaries.”

On Friday, Soap Opera Digest broke the news that Bonner had signed with “Guiding Light,” which is expected to end its iconic 72-year run on September 18th, to create a new role that has yet to be announced. She is said to debut on “GL” in early June, and share scenes with the recently returned Murray Bartlett, whose character Cyrus Foley comes home to Springfield after searching the globe for his missing brother Grady.

alt ( –  She isn’t a soap star, but life’s a soap opera – right? Sherri Shepherd of ABC Daytime’s “The View” will appear on “Friday Night SmackDown” along-side WWE Superstar MVP.

Since appearing on “The View,” MVP has become fast friends with Shepherd and invited her to appear on his turf on the Friday, May 1 episode of the program. The episode airs at 8:00 PM ET (check local listings).

Will Shepherd head into the ring and lay the SmackDown on a Superstar? Tune in to find out.

Among Shepherd’s duties as co-host of “The View,” the actress/talk show host consistently takes viewers behind the scenes of daytime and primetime’s biggest shows, more recently she took a look behind the scenes of ABC’s ”Dancing with the Stars.” She also routinely hosts ABC Daytime initiatives including “The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” in June 2008 with “All My Children’s” Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery). In November 2008, Shepherd re-teamed with Mathison as co-host of the final Super Soap Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Outside of “The View,” Shepherd is returning to her acting roots via a primetime sitcom pilot for Lifetime in which she’ll play a character loosely based on herself. In the series, she’ll play a woman who invites her husband’s mistress and her illegitimate child to move into her house. The series was originally developed for The CW Television Network, but was passed over. If picked up, the series will likely join the Lifetime comedy hit “Rita Rocks” and reruns of “Reba” during the networks Monday night comedy block.

Erica completes a 180 turn on Tuesday, April 28 when she advises Adam to keep his children in the dark about his illness. Krystal tries to mask her discomfort after learning David invited Marissa to move in with them on Wednesday, April 29. Adam pits JR and Scott against each other with the prize for saving Chandler Enterprises being control of the business at the end of the year. Scott rushes ahead with his plans to test the heart valve as soon as possible despite JR’s objections. Faced with the finalization of the adoption, on Thursday, April 30, Amanda tells Jake that she just can’t do it. Krystal overreacts when she sees Marissa giving David a massage. Frankie’s family learns his convey was ambushed in Iraq. A plagued Opal is certain something awful is about to happen.

              The Inside Story: Choices
Erica urges Reese to go to Paris and fight for Bianca. Realizing that they have no idea Bianca has returned, a spiteful Kendall tells Reese she should act on Erica’s advice immediately. Kendall and Bianca have an emotional talk on Monday, April 27. Kendall calls Zach for help in setting up a meeting between Bianca and Reese. Reese pours out her heart to Bianca who remains distant. Bianca relents some and invites Reese over to visit the kids. Back at the park, the distance between Zach and Kendall remains in tact as Zach questions Kendall’s motives. Miranda tells Reese that Bianca has been sad a lot. Reese is overjoyed when Bianca tells her that she’s willing to give their relationship another shot but cautions Reese that the road ahead will be long. Reese, Bianca and the girls happily head back to Paris. Ryan’s arrival puts a quick end to the Slater’s moment of closeness. Kendall puts Ryan’s reservations about their relationship to rest. Liza once again leaves Zach without a proper introduction.

              A Closer Look: Demons
A stunned Ryan receives a manuscript from Alexander Cambias Sr. detailing the Satin Slayer murders. Tad is affected when Ryan informs him that Alexander takes credit for all of the murders except Dixie’s in the book. Ryan goes against Tad’s advice and visits Alexander at the psychiatric facility. Alexander insists to Ryan that there’s still a killer on the loose. Tad reluctantly tells JR about Alexander’s claim. No longer cogent of that fact that Babe was the intended target anyways, JR deduces that if Alexander didn’t kill Dixie that Babe was most likely the intended target. Ryan tells Zach about his visit with Alexander. Tad is determined to find out who really killed Dixie. Stuart tells Tad and Jesse that he remembers seeing Adam with a satin ribbon on the day of Dixie’s death. Stuart becomes increasingly troubled when he remembers more about Adam’s behavior on that day. Adam suffers a seizure as an aggressive JR lays into him, demanding to know whether or not he killed his mother. Adam makes a startling confession to Erica on Friday, May 1.
