USA Network miniseries “Political Animals,” which sadly did not move on to become a regularly scheduled primetime series as hoped, has instead become a cult classic and is now a multi-Primetime Emmy award nominee!

The anticipation leading up to the announcement of the 65th Primetime Emmy awards has been building for weeks, and “Breaking Bad’s” Aaron Paul and “How I Met Your Mother’s” Neil Patrick Harris finally made the official list public this morning. On the Friday, June 14 edition of “The Talk,” Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards co-host and Showbiz Tonight host, A.J. Hammer, stopped by CBS’ “The Talk” to chat with the ladies (Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler, Sheryl Underwood, Julie Chen and Sara Gilbert) about daytime biggest event!

As we previously reported, HLN, the network hosting the the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy awards, is shaking up the beloved broadcast by interviewing the winners of the top seven categories on stage immediately following their acceptance speeches! On the heels of the announcement, Soap Opera Network hit the red carpet for the Television Academy hosted Daytime Emmy Awards Nominee Reception to get a few of the stars’ takes on celebrities Giada De Laurentiis, Sheryl Underwood, Julie Chen, Sam Champion and A.J. Hammer asking the night’s biggest winners a variety of questions on air. Read on to find out whether the idea is loved — or hated!

While Billy Magnussen (ex-Casey Hughes, “As The World Turns”) did not win Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his performance as Spike in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” the play itself did win in the category of Best Play. Written by Christopher Durang, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” tells the story of Vanya (David Hyde Piece, “Frasier”) and Sonia (Kristine Nielsen,”Political Animals”) and Masha (Sigourney Weaver, “Political Animals”) and Spike (Magnussen), who together turn a generally quiet household into a standing circus full of intrigue and super fun.

In addition to announcing more presenters for the “40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards,” airing LIVE on Sunday, June 16 from 8-10:00 PM ET, HLN has also named “Good Morning America’s Sam Champion and their very own A.J. Hammer and Robin Meade as hosts of the telecast. Additionally, the network has announced that Hammer will host the LIVE red carpert special “Showbiz @ The Daytime Emmys,” which will lead into the awards telecast. Hammer is the host of HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” series airing Mondays through Thursdays from 11:00 PM – midnight, ET.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (previously incorrectly indicated by us as The National Association of Television Arts & Sciences) announced today that both CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” have received additional nominations for the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. The category that bumped both soaps up in total counts was Outstanding Original Song for a Drama Series, which previously listed one song for “General Hospital” and one song for “Y&R” when nominations were first announced on Wednesday, May 1.

At the 2013 Writers Guild Awards, “The Young and The Restless” beat out “Days of our Lives” and “One Life To Live” for their fifth win. The show previously won in 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

During tonight’s 65th Annual DGA Awards Dinner, held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles, “One Life to Live’s” Jill Mitwell beat out “General Hospital’s” Larry Carpenter, Scott McKinsey and William Ludel and “Days of our Live’s” director Albert Alarr in the category of Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials. Mitwell won for her direction of the episode “Between Heaven and Hell,” which aired during “OLTL’s” final week on television (week of January 9, 2012). Coincidently, the title of the episode is based on the fact that prior to its 43-year run on ABC, which began July 15, 1968, “One Life to Live” was initially titled “Between Heaven and Hell.”

CBS soaps “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” were the only daytime dramas without a nomination in the category. “General Hospital” dominated with nominations for directors Larry Carpenter, Scott McKinsey and William Ludel all getting recognition. Jill Mitwell received her ninth directing nomination for the “One Life to Live” episode entitled “Between Heaven and Hell,” which aired during the soaps final week on television. Coincidently, the title of the episode is based on the fact that prior to its 43-year run began in 1968, “One Life to Live” was initially titled “Between Heaven and Hell.” Albert Alarr was nominated for episode #11,895, which was the episode following the aftermath of explosions that found several of Salem’s citizens in life-threatening situations. It was also the episode that found the drama series returning from a 2-week break while NBC broadcast the Summer Olympic games from London.

Sunday, September 23 marks ABC’s turn to host the “The Primetime Emmy Awards” (now in its 64th year) and in honored tradition the network will also be airing the pre-show, “Emmys Red Carpet Live.” This year the red carpet festivities will be hosted by the network’s Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer (“Good Morning America” and “Good Afternoon America”), Chris Harrison (“The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette”) and Clinton Kelly (“The Chew”).

“I think it is a very good possibility! In fact, I think there is a good probability!” said newly appointed Senior Executive Director of “The 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” David Michaels, in an interview with Michael Fairman, when asked about the possibility of the awards ceremony possibly being telecast on television next year. “Malachy Wienges [Chairman, National Association of Television Arts & Sceinces] is working very hard on that as we speak. That is one of the things that is key … to always keep the Daytime Emmys on the air. It is what a lot of people look forward to all yearlong, which is that telecast. I never want to see it go off the air!”

The Friday, June 20 telecast of the “35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” on ABC was the least watched in the ceremonies history and the network placed third overall against repeats on the other networks.
