Maurice Benard

When it looked like “General Hospital’s” Sonny Corinthos would finally be paying for his crimes as he was set to serve some serious jail time for the murder of AJ Quartermaine, it looks like he’ll soon be released after time served with word that actor Maurice Benard has signed a new deal with the daytime drama series.

Brandon Barash, General Hospital, Johnny Zacchara

As previously reported, Brandon Barash is reprising the role of Johnny Zacchara on ABC’s “General Hospital” and it looks like he’s set to mark his return this week when Johnny comes face to face with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), at least that’s how it appears in the promo for this week’s worth of episodes. “Wait. What? Johnny’s back this week?!” tweeted Barash shortly after the promo was released.

Fans have long wondered when “General Hospital’s” contract cast would be a receiving a trimming, as it’s widely known that the series has quite a large group of actors that make up the Port Charles canvas, but it was anyone’s guess whose status would be changed. Soap Opera Network has learned that actors Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix DuBois), Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne) and John J. York (Mac Scorpio) have all been placed on recurring status. In the case of Thiebaud and Samuel, their status change will be reflected in the on air credits in the coming weeks. York has been listed as a recurring cast member since early October.

Maurice Benard

As previously reported, “General Hospital’s” Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) will be featured in the Sunday, October 5 telecast of “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” which tracks past guests from “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to see what they’ve been up to since last appearing on the talk show. In the case of Benard, it was in 2004 when the soap star and his wife, Paula, opened up to Oprah Winfrey about the private hell they’ve lived for years with the revelation that the soap star was living with bipolar disorder, which, at its worst, made him violent and suicidal. Nearly 10 years since the episode aired, “Where Are They Now?” followed the actor backstage on the set of “GH,” while viewers are introduced to his loving family, which includes daughters Cailey, Heather and Cassidy, and his very own “Mini-Me,” son Joshua.

As “General Hospital” fans know, nobody knows how to host a party quite like Standing Sun winery owner Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos). And the actress is bumping up her game with a new twist: The actress and her husband, John Wright, have added an art gallery and a singer/song-writer music series to their Santa Barbara winery and will be hosting an all-day Harvest Blues Festival in the space this month!
