As expected, ABC announced today that it will be tinkering with the “General Hospital” airing schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic forcing the show to suspend production earlier this month. With no set date for when the show will resume production, and with President Donald Trump announcing that the United States has extended its social distancing guidelines through April 30, the network has decided to air the remaining produced episodes Monday through Thursdays for the time being. Fridays will consist of “Flashback Friday” episodes, starting this Friday, April 3, 2020, and continuing through at least Friday, May 22, 2020.
Each encore episode will feature an introduction from a “General Hospital” actor highlighting the episode and this Friday’s introduction will be made by Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos). Originally aired on Tuesday, April 3, 2019, episode #14,273 was the 56th-anniversary episode in which a loving tribute was made to the hospital’s past, present and future, providing a pivotal moment for some of Port Charles’ most memorable characters.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1, marks the 57th anniversary of the daytime drama series. The soap has won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series a record 13 times.
