Sorry to break the news but Daniel Goddard (ex-Cane Ashby, “The Young and the Restless”) is not joining the cast of “Days of our Lives,” and in particular will not be playing EJ DiMera on the soap (last played by James Scott).

Earlier today, a since-deleted tweet shared by Goddard appeared to indicate confirmation that he had been hired to take on the role of EJ on “DAYS.” However, the “news” was vastly misleading as it lacked any context.

To clarify, on Sunday morning, Soaps.com published an article with a list of predictions they had for each daytime soap opera for 2021. In a photo gallery accompanying the article, the publication said of their 2021 “DAYS” prediction, “When ‘Days of our Lives” Sami returns to Salem, she’ll do so with true love EJ, no longer a shell of his old self but the spitting image of ‘The Young and the Restless’ Daniel Goddard (ex-Cane).”

As noted in the article as sort of a quasi disclaimer, the website says they are playing head writer and were offering a tease of what they thought might happen on the soaps in the new year. More specifically, they say, “Sometimes, we’ve just read the writing on the wall and reprinted it; other times, we’ve gone so far out on a limb that we’ll be surprised if it doesn’t snap beneath the weight of us.”

Seeing the article mentioning his name, Goddard shared a screenshot on his Twitter and Instagram accounts with the caption, “Well, hello #DaysOfOurLives ! 😉” and from there, things took off with excited fans giving congratulations to the actor and sharing the news across social media and message boards. However, while we would love to see Goddard back on one of the soaps or reprising his previous role on “Y&R,” currently there are no plans for Goddard to play a past or newly created role on any of the daytime soaps.

You can see a screenshot of Goddard’s tweet below.
