Tuesday, October 7, 2008 11:01 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- An old interview with Michael Storm. After a nearly two month absence, I am back with my column, and hope to soon return to my in-depth discussions on the current state of "One Life to Live." Unfortunately, sometimes in life when it rains, it pours. Such has been the case for me lately, with my schedule being extremely full and hectic. Anyhow, here is an old newspaper article about "OLTL." Enjoy! The following article is entitled "Michael Storm's Wife is Expecting: Baby is 1st week of April...but please, not on April 1st!" It originally appeared in the April 1970 edition of "Daytime TV."“We expect our baby the first week in April,” says Michael Storm’s wife, Sally. “And I it’s not an April 1st baby. I don’t want the poor child...

Thursday, August 28, 2008 9:49 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Erika Slezak talks family love--'70s style.Wow...this may be a new record for me...I'm nearly two weeks late with this column. However, there is a valid reason for that; the past few weeks have been very hectic for me. Being a City Commissioner, I am responsible for helping my small hometown prepare for our annual Honeyfest. It is a big deal here, especially since it became the "Kentucky's Official State Honey Festival" in 2006. Now in its 14th year, the Clarkson Honeyfest has grown by leaps and bounds. More information is available at www.honeyfest.com.In addition, the past two weeks have also taken a somber tone for my loved ones and me. Three recent deaths have hit too close to home for me. First there was the husband of my...

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 5:00 AM EST | By Errol LewisDear Readers,When we came up with the Bringing.Drama.Closer campaign on Soap Opera Network many years ago, we never thought that 2008 would bring some of the biggest controversies in the daytime world, nor did we think it would be happening off screen and behind-the-scenes.So far we have had the "Days of our Lives" online scandal a few weeks back as reported by TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco and now we have reports that Carolyn Hinsey of Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Digest fame has been fired by both magazines' owner Source Interlink, Inc. due to supposed "budget cuts." Jossip, the website that broke the news, has found a record number of responses to its article with over 1,000 replies and has subsequently published a few of the well thought out discussions in a second article posted a day...

Thursday, July 31, 2008 3:04 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- In 1968, "One Life to Live" created controversy with a storyline in which viewers outraged when they saw what they perceived to be a white woman kissing a black doctor. Forty years later, African-Americans in Llanview appear to be nonexistent. The year 1968 was a rather turbulent time in American history. The Vietnam was well underway, nearly 200 hundred women protest the Miss America pageant calling it an exploitation of women, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968 into law, Senator Robert Kennedy is assassinated while campaigning for President in Las Angeles, civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is shot to death by James Earl Ray in Memphis, and Richard Nixon captured the White House by defeating Democrat Hubert Humphrey and American Independent Party candidate George Wallace. It...

Saturday, July 26, 2008 1:25 AM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- A review of "One Life to Live's" 40th anniversary tribute. Aloha everyone. It seems I just keep getting later and later with these columns, doesn't it? I just get so wrapped up with everything going on around me, that I forget things, like this column. And I find it so difficult just to set down and write very much when there is so much to do outside this time of year. Also, I wanted to wait until after the two special 40th anniversary episodes of "OLTL" aired earlier this week before I wrote my column. But my apologizes for this being so late. There are just never enough hours in the day to do anything. Anyway, here are my thoughts on "One Life to Live's" 40th anniversary celebration... The Top Five reasons why I liked the two "OLTL" 40th anniversary...

Monday, July 7, 2008 4:14 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Tina Lord's history and connections to Llanview.Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July holiday. Independence Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. In what seems to have become a broken record with me, this column is late again as usual. I'm starting to get lazy in my old age (I'm pushing 30), so you can imagine how bad I'll be by the time I'm really old. Anyway, here is my column. I thought this go around I would help out new viewers by providing a character sketch of Llanview recently returned vixen Tina Lord Roberts. However, before I delve into Tina's history in Llanview, here's a quick look at the various actresses who have portrayed Viki's younger sister over the years. Since...

Sunday, June 22, 2008 9:32 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards and "One Life to Live."Greetings soap opera connoisseurs. Once more procrastination has become my Kryptonite. It's so hard to set down and write a column this time of year because there is so much to do outside. But then again, it is hot, and typing is a painless activity while cooling off under the air conditioner. So sorry this column is a little behind schedule, but you know what they say.....better late than never. Ha ha. Anyway, on to the Llanview lowdown...Last Friday night, the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in their typical lackluster fashion. Hosts Cameron Mathison and Sheri Shepherd made for a grueling two-hour snooze fest block of time that we will never get back. Two thoughts first came...

Saturday, June 7, 2008 7:37 PM | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Ron Carlivati helps "One Life to Live" rise from the ashes and return to its former glory.Hello to all you fellow "One Life to Live" fans out there in TV land. I am finally writing this column about a week late again, as usual. However, one thing that is different now is that I am going to actually write a column, and not just copy and paste some random "OLTL" article from the past. I am so very thankful that summer vacation has arrived. I finally have the opportunity to catch up on things "OLTL," including writing a meaningful column again. So without further delay, here are my latest thoughts and rants on "One Life to Live."For starters, I remain in shock and awe from the past week's events in...

Black vs. White Friday, May 23, 2008 8:52 PM| By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) - Ellen Holly comments on playing a black woman (Carla Gray) pretending to be white.Hello everyone. Yes, this column is again several days late. Sorry about that, but I just have no time in schedule for much of anything these days. I hope that improves soon. With the 40th anniversary of "One Life to Live" just around the corner, I thought it appropriate to reflect upon one of the soap's first controversial storylines. It involved an actress by the name of Ellen Holly, who portrayed Carla Gray. Unknownist to viewers at the time, Carla, was actually a black woman passing herself off as a white woman. The following article, written by Ms. Holly herself, appeared in the August 10th, 1969 edition of the New York Times. In September of...
