all shows are up and congrats to DOOL most improved show glad my show Y&R is #1 in all the demos and big ratings are soon to come when Jack and Summer learn the truth!!!

    • sarah

well Y&R is number one for i don’t know years, decades even..right now i don’t find the show very good..i don’t mind and even enjoy some of the new characters (i like Tyler for example) but these stories are boring, the Summer paternity story should be spectacular..But NO it is a total fail because of the passing, Phyliss’s actions who don’t make sense what’s so ever, trying to whitewash Nick’s vile actions and responsability, Jack being totally out of the story, the Kyle’s recast (he has NO chemistry with Summer, their love story is totally rushed and doesn’t work at all, he looks like..well the less is said the better on this..ect)..some stories should be great but the execution is totally boring and a big time disaster..so good for their always great ratings (compare to others, they also have better budget which helps a LOT) but right now this show is not in a good shape imo.

      • PatF

Yes, the show is not perfect right now, but some of the stories are clicking. The writing, while boring for some fans, is more balanced than it was which is why I think the ratings are there. The true test for me with Josh, will be how he handles Kay’s death onscreen. Until then, I’ve been okay with the show.
I think other shows are in more trouble both creatively and ratings wise.

        • Sarah

Ratings wise other soaps are always in more trouble than Y&R, ha ha..however creatively i am not sure although Y&R has always put much more effort in character written scenes and interactions than the others (don’t know why by the way)..Days has had some good maybe even great stories this first half of this year, B&B is still pretty good at climax (this last week the Bill/Brooke fling revelation by Taylor to all the canvas and then Katie’s break down over it were great soap imo) although some of their stories are stale..Their endless triangle with the young cast for example are tiring..And GH well yes it is all over the place right now for sure but it has been quite good for a while with the anniversary and some great fallout of storylines at the enf of 2012 with some sharp, fast passing (something Y&R is really bad at which often make the whole vibe of Y&R slow and boring imo)..But yes GH is not in a good shape at all creatively right now..the relish story for example and too much has already be said about Franco insta redemption and the incest cousins love story..lol. So imo Y&R could be far better, right now i am not really interested and lot’s of things bug me too much. And this week..A Cassie doppelganger ? Really..i thought MAB and her crazy, silly ideas, plot points were gone, it is not really good writing and compete with the most campy, ott stories you can sometimes find on the three other soaps which usually make them cheaper creatively wise than Y&R.sigh.

          • PatF

YR (with the exception of the LML and MAB years) has traditionally been a show that moves slow. I prefer that style of story telling. Josh writes the show that way, he just needs more of an edge.
Some call it boring, but I call it realistic.

        • Harlee

Yes, it’s not perfect by any means but reading the same never-ending arguments about the show that never changes…I’m pesonally finding the show SO MORE balanced now and am enjoying the most vets stories, the only one I find boring is Dylan…anything to do with DylanSteve Burton is snorefest, KevinChole is still not nothing but feels like filler material. Falls flat mostly. I’m actually enjoying nuAbbyAlex dynamic. Peter & Hunter (loved her early when others were condemning her) has brought the ball park the other day…most excellent performances by both actors. MS brought it the screen of course, but I wouldn’t say the paternity is epic fail either but most decidedly rushed fell because MS’s exit, I didn’t like that at all. I know it was screeching about recast of Phyllis….this is why we need “Phyllis’s recast” ASAP to play the beats. What was a failure was Phyllis & Kyle’s kiss…Josh you missed the ball all together. The growth of Summer & Jack’s relationship the brightest “star” shining in the story and fallout of Nicholas Newman….MS ego got bruised and her doing to leave, wish her well but time to bring on nuPhyllis and let the transition begin….I’m not hating YR but enjoying the vets and having less Dylan is good thing which he’s paced now….

  • LukeNoahFan

So all four soaps together gained almost 700,000 viewers in comparison to the same week last year.

The big upward trend is holding steady!!

    • Philip

How many times are you going to change your name and post basically the same thing week after week and on different boards? People are not dumb they know it is the same person when you post the same exact thing.

If only the decision was made to cancel shows based on how the whole genre added together did. But they don’t.

Someone could add all the talk shows and variety shows together and basically say the same thing. Of course you would balk at that and say it shouldn’t be done.

Of course I am sure now that you will change your name once again and come back acting as if you support what you just said.

Start explaining why GH has lost so many viewers since April…not just April but since January. Back in January the show was threatening to get back to 3 million viewers again….now it is tying its low ratings at times again and consistently finishing 4th again. Explain that. GH won’t be saved on ABC by adding all the soaps together. GH will live and die based on it’s own ratings. Same for all the soaps.

      • Vanessa

The only one I’m seeing here who keeps posting the same stuff and always bashing soaps is you.

GH is still up nearly 200,000 viewers from the same week last year. And yes: Ratings tend to go down during summer months. This time of the year has often seen the lowest ratings.

Only two weeks ago, however, the four soaps had their best week since 2007 (all up big from last year, including GH), and last week DAYS had its best end of June week since 2007. Why is it not allowed to mention these facts?

And the executives you’re talking about better have a look at the terrible ratings of the replacement shows they put on after killing the soaps. ABC, for example, can only dream of GH ratings in these time slots.

        • Philip

          Vanessa=LukeNoahFan and on and on

Changing your name and saying the same thing over and over again week after week doesn’t make it so.

And only in your immature dreamland is stating facts that GH’s numbers are down a lot since April and January is that bashing soaps. That is the only thing that an immature childish person can see. If you aren’t singing the praises of soaps constantly then you are just a hater. That is immature thinking at it’s finest.

Remember not everything is black and white. There is an in between.

As far as the season to date numbers that you list for the shows like The Talk, etc. It would be nice if you would supply your sources for those numbers. Otherwise since they are only published on the Internet in occasional press releases and not posted weekly like the soaps are then it just appears you are making them up. So what is your source for those?

Also when you post how much soaps are up combined each week how about also proving how great those numbers are by comparing them to how much the replacement shows are up or down? Otherwise you are just boasting and stating stuff as so without any numbers to back them up.

Show me numbers and sources for those numbers and you might be believed but you only make yourself look desperate when you post under numerous names and say basically the same thing.

Over at TV By The Numbers you were doing that and your posts got deleted because of it. I saw where you were called out on it. They don’t allow that over there. They only allow posters to have one URL and one user name.

And all that anyone has to do is look at the various posts over the weeks and you see that you as Vanessa and LukeNoahFan and others have said the same exact thing over and over for weeks now. Same phrases and all.

          • Bex

I’m thinking SoapFansTogether Vanessa, and Luke are all aliases of David/Steve. The rabid GH fan.

  • 30yearGHfan

Confused as to why this is a good week for GH. They did the worst of all 4 soaps.

    • SoapsFansTogether

*** +176,000 versus same week last year*** AND

*** the best season average since 2007-08 ***

      isn’t too bad either.

ABC can only dream of these numbers with the cheap replacement shows they put on after killing AMC and OLTL.

      • Jay Last

Except for one thing: Let’s Make A Deal on CBS virtually always has higher ratings than GH. LET’S MAKE A FREAKIN’ DEAL. Let that concept sink in; it’s pretty sad.

        • SoapFansTogether

Let’s see how long that will last. Those cheap game and talk and blablabla shows are, above all: CHEAP! No recipe for long-term growth! And LMAD has a very old viewership, which according to the networks’ own logic isn’t very attractive to advertisers at all.

They had better made smart long-term investments to get GL back to the ratings they had only two or three years before CBS killed it. So the whole CBS daytime lineup could now be in a much better position, with ATWT (that even in its weakest period got higher ratings than “The Talk”!!) and GL being part of the big upward trend the remaining soaps are seeing.

The same is true for ABC – AMC and OLTL.

As soon as mobile devices and online viewers finally get included in ratings appropriately, the fatal error of killing these long-runnings success stories (soaps!!) will become even more obvious.

        • SoapFansTogether

PS: You probably know that GH is not in the same time slot as LMAD. GH is in the same time slot as “The Talk” (the replacement show for ATWT on CBS) and is having much better ratings. CBS can only dream of a season average of 2.2 (total) and 1.2 (women 14-49) with “The Talk”, but they had these averages with ATWT only about a year before cancelling it!

    • PatF

My thoughts too. When the show can’t even manage a 2.0 daily rating, to me it looks like it is in trouble.
      I don’t watch, but I wonder what’s up.

  • Kazzy

Days sucks. I hate Ej and Sami, she should not be with her rapist, nor with the man she shot in the head. I hate Brady and Kristen and I hate that John is gone and Lucas is rarely shown. Unless Days is in first place, its still a sucky soap. How are they justifying Kristen raping a priest, if Brady gets together with her again, I will lose any respect I have for him which isn’t much. I hate Daniel and Jennifer. Just axe them already.

    • thetruth

And Sami should not be with the guy who put her on death row..ya da yada yada..ah fanbases wars..if you enjoy the show you watch if you don’t you don’t watch, your favorite guy being with the girl you want doesn’t make the ratings, good stories do.
Days is not perfect but it is better than all these last years so viewers being up is a good thing.

  • Hugo

Congrats DAYS ! I think the show is really good right now, I like the storylines and can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen next. I’m not a fan of some of the current pairings (Dannifer, Ejami) but it doesn’t ruin the show for me.

  • Alicia_E

Hooray for Days! I’m enjoying the whole show so much. EJ and Samantha make an awesome team together. Will and Sonny Poppins, with Gabi and lil’ baby Ari, Justin and Adrienne, JJ, crazy K vs. Eric/Nicole/Brady/Marlena.. Actually seeing Abe and Theo – these are a few of my favorite things. Days is making me love Mondays.

  • Vanessa

Some numbers to think about when you’re evaluating GH’s current ratings:

In the same time slot, “The Talk” (replacement show for ATWT on CBS) is having a season average of 0.7 (women 18-49). It might even go down more during the summer months. GH is having a season average of 1.2 (women 18-49).

ATWT had an average of 0.9 (women 18-49) in its last and weakest season when everybody already knew almost all the time the show had been cancelled. In the years before, ATWT’s season average (women 18-49) was always above the 1.0 Nielsen ratings mark.

Even GL, in its last and very weak year, had a season average of 0.8 (women 18-49), after always being above the 1.0 Nielsen ratings mark (women 18-49) in the previous years. Its replacement show LMAD is currently having a season average of 0.6 (women 18-49, LMAD 1) or 0.7 (women 18-49, LMAD 2) respectively.
