              Soap Opera Network

Long before ABC’s Upfront presentation got underway at around 3:45 PM on Tuesday, May 17, when invited guests began scuttling into the Avery Fisher Hall, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) looked to take attention off of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) by promoting its new fall programming with a rotation of more than a dozen Grayline and CitySearch NYC buses that were filled with wide open spaces or a lack of passengers in this case. While the seats may have been empty, no one could miss the colorful brand making its presence known while its competitor seeks a piece of the $9.2 billion pie during a crucial television season that lies ahead for the Disney/ABC Television Group. Insert the NBC peacock now featured on billboards in newly stylized glossy graphics.

Brian Frons Spotted Chuckling as Soap Fans Protest His Decision to Change Daytime Television

( — Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group (pictured right wearing sun glasses), went into the ABC Upfront on Tuesday, May 17 knowing he was the most hated man in television today. Frons inherited the title from former NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker and all it took was a bunch of protesting fans to get the message across as they booed the executive while he walked across the street from Lincoln Center to an ABC After party at the Atlantic Grill restaurant. So how does the man that canceled a collective 83-years of daytime drama respond to angry fans? With a chuckle of course!

As the Soap Fans United protest was reaching its final half hour and industry movers and shakers made their way to various parties in and around New York City, daytime soap fans were surprised to see Frons walk right on by as they rallied on protesting the cancellation of their favorite soaps. This surprise appearance in front of fans would mark Frons' first public outing since the announcement that he decided to cancel "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" in favor of lower cost programming.

"The Chew," a one-hour daily Talk show co-hosted by Mario Batali, Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall, Michael Symon and Daphne Oz, replaces "All My Children" beginning Monday, September 26. "The Revolution," a one-hour Lifestyle series co-hosted by Tim Gunn, Harley Pasternak and Kimberley Locke, replaces "One Life to Live" beginning Monday, January 23, 2012.

While the executive went to wine and dine with Disney/ABC collegues and advertisers, cast and crew at "One Life to Live" continued to film the soaps final months of storytelling a few blocks away.

                Soap Opera Network

On Tuesday, May 17, fans of ABC’s recently canceled “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” protested outside of the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City as the ABC Television Network presented its 2011-2012 broadcast television schedule to its owned & operated stations, affiliates, advertising partners, and the dozens of press outlets gobbling up everything said during the networks upfront presentation. Joining protesting fans were Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara Ryan, “As The World Turns”), Mimi Torchin (founding Editor in Chief of Soap Opera Weekly), and “One Life to Live’s” Ilene Kristen (Roxy Balsom). Also making their presence known was the Broadcast Television Union NABET CWA Local 16.

'OLTL' Casting Call: 'Life' After Death?

( — “One Life to Live” issues a new casting call for a character who appears to have risen from the dead.

The newest audition script is for the role of “Irene.” The scene opens with Mr. Baker (played by Jonathan Earl Peck, who debuted last Friday, in scenes opposite Roger Howarth) visiting a visibly upset Mrs. Irene Williams at her office. Baker tries to explain what happened, saying the situation had gotten seriously out of control. Irene laments that she should have sent someone else to do the job, and that all the years they have spent covering up the truth was for nothing, all because of a DNA test.

Mr. Baker takes full responsibility for the prisoner’s escape and tells her that he’s sorry. She reminds him that they have known one another for years, and to please call her Irene. Baker thanks her and says that he believes the situation can still be handled effectively. He goes on to say that the test results matches the two women for each other, but fails to explain who they really are, so no one will ever figure out who the real one is. Irene tells him he sounds overly optimistic, but agrees that he might be right. Irene reminds him that “Talia Gross” is very smart and that she may be on to them, and tells Baker that, had he not let their top man go, it would have been mission accomplished already.

Confused, Baker asks why it matters since Talia, along with everyone else, already thinks she’s dead anyway. Irene agrees, and recites a quote from Mark Twain about rumors of her death being “greatly exaggerated.” Baker responds that it hasn’t been proven if Twain actually ever even said that. As the scene ends, Irene is impressed and says that he always was full of surprises. She then proceeds to grab a gun from her desk drawer and point it straight at Baker.

Although “One Life to Live” tries to throw viewers off by changing character names in these audition scripts, it seem possible from the tone of the scene, it may refer to the soap’s current “Tale of Two Todd’s” storyline involving Trevor St. John and Roger Howarth.

                In other news…

Jason Alan Carvell will continue his recurring role as a bartender this month.
