On the Tuesday, October 13, 2026 episode of ‘Beyond the Gates’, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) continued to navigate Ted and Shanice’s engagement, Martin (Brandon Claybon)
learned the fate of his husband, and Heather (Ashley Jones) surprised Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) with her party favor.
Love Galore
While Ted (Keith D. Robinson), Shanice (Ernestine Johnson), Ashley (Jen Jacob), and Andre (Sean Freeman) all bantered about wedding preparation, Nicole privately declared to Dani (Karla Mosley) in her office that she was officially cried out; she’d just needed to work through her unexpected feelings about Ted getting married again. Dani understood that Nicole wanted to remained composed for the sake of the others, and the sisters heard Shanice talking about a Christmas wedding when they returned to the nurses’ station.
Carlton was surprised when he came upon the news himself. Andre joked about the bachelor party he would throw for Ted and led Dani out; Shanice conspicuously had Ashley follow her elsewhere so the former Richardsons could talk. Nicole acknowledged to Ted that she’d had a reaction to his engagement news beyond what she had shown him before, but reiterated that she was happy for him and Shanice. Kial (Greg Vaughan) and Shanice emerged from their own chat about the wedding to find Ted and Nicole hugging.
Freak Like Me
Nicole and Ted retreated to their current partners, and the foursome’s interaction was civil, albeit slightly awkward. Back at Fairmont Crest, Andre wanted to get romantic, but Dani seemed determined to talk about Nicole’s state of mind. Dani hesitantly told Andre that she understood where Nicole was coming from, since her own feelings about Bill came at the strangest times. Andre kept quiet when Dani giggled that his exes were all too far away to have any effect on their lives.
Heather was at Uptown, watching a video someone had sent her of Smitty being brought into the police station. She saw Carlton taking a seat at the bar and asked if he had been avoiding her. Carlton admitted that her familial connection to Joey gave him pause, but soon his and Heather’s flirtation renewed, and they agreed to another romp at her hotel suite. Carlton was shocked when Heather merrily brought out a switchblade and cut the buttons off his shirt…though not shocked enough to bring an end to their latest encounter.
Trial Time
Martin and Kat (Colby Nixon) came back to the Dupree mansion with Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita (Tamara Tunie), who raved over how well-received Martin had been at his campaign event. Martin felt hypocritical having spoken to his voters about transparency while keeping the secret of Smitty being investigated in regard to Lia’s death. At the station, Smitty was taken to the interrogation room, where Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) assured him she had arranged for the condo to be cleaned up after the police had ransacked it.
Jacob (Jibre Hordges) felt uneasy about having to put the screws to Smitty, who had been so invaluable to him while he’d been undercover. Elon (Malachi Malik) pushed for Jacob to stay strong, so Jacob asked the handcuffed Smitty hard questions; Smitty exhorted Jacob to see that someone had broken into his house and planted the pills because he’d been so close to identifying The Impaler. Smitty warned Jacob that he was probably next, and Naomi halted the interrogation when things began to get heated.
A Couple Of Forevers
Having promised Smitty that she wouldn’t call Martin, since he didn’t want to risk Martin getting news of his detainment while with his constituents, Naomi instead called Vernon, who brought Anita, Martin, and Kat down to the station. Kat swore to Jacob that something seemed off, while Vernon got nowhere trying to get Elon’s help; Elon said that he had done a lot for the Duprees over the years, but now had to put Jacob, who had lost his best friend over the Impaler case, first.
Smitty was glad to see Martin but insisted that he distance himself going forward so as to not endanger his re-election. Martin appreciated Smitty trying to protect him, but begged Smitty to let him do the protecting this time. Jacob and Naomi came together after Smitty’s difficult questioning and agreed that they seemed to have survived keeping their professional and personal lives separate. The Hawthornes also knew that, with Smitty’s case getting hotter, they’d have to be even more judicious.
Hard To Choose
At the cleaned-up Richardson-Smith brownstone, Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) expressed his disbelief to Samantha (Najah Jackson) that Jessica had returned, wanting him back. Samantha admitted that Jessica had been trash for so casually dumping Tyrell, but she was so for Tyrell choosing Jessica over Francesca that Tyrell asked if Samantha were personally invested in his choice. Though Samantha didn’t like Tyrell dating her “sworn enemy” Francesca, Tyrell wondered if he and Jessica would still vibe the way they had in high school.
Tyrell received texts from both Chessy and Jessica in which they made cases for themselves. Samantha balked at Tyrell’s idea that he could go out with both of them, while Tyrell wished that their fathers were home, since he needed a different perspective besides Samantha’s. The moment Martin and Smitty came through the door, Tyrell teed up his question, but the grown-ups had the kids sit down…and explained that Smitty had been arrested – and charged with “drug-induced homicide.” It was only because they had posted bail after Smitty’s arraignment that he was home. The devastated family assembled for a group hug.
