On the Thursday, October 8, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Dani (Karla Mosley) pled her case to Andre (Sean Freeman), Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) went on a blind vacation, and Deanna (Angela Fairley) graduated to seeing another perspective.
Please Please Please
Dani promised that her latest visit to Bill had been harmless, but Andre felt that Dani wasn’t truly listening to his concerns. He prevented Dani from simply smoothing things over and asked point blank if she wanted to be with Bill instead of him. Andre also felt that Hayley had something on Bill or he wouldn’t have dropped the attempted murder charges against her – plus, Andre added, there had been a shift between him and Dani since the night of the tornado.
Dani said she was happy with Andre, and that Bill had never loved her the way Andre did, which seemed to be enough for him. Andre and Dani made love, then talked about their agreement not to keep secrets from each other. Dani addressed the secret Andre had almost told her about his past, but decided she didn’t need to know if Andre felt she was better off not knowing. Andre said he wanted to keep growing with Dani, and Dani apologized for hurting Andre with her insensitivity.
We Can’t Be Friends
At Uptown, Hayley’s hand shook, and Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) said she’d only been kidding about Hayley going after her man. Hayley snapped that she didn’t want Leslie’s “old-ass cop boyfriend” and refused the vacation Leslie suggested. Leslie guessed Hayley had something on Bill, but when Hayley clammed up, Leslie chirped that she’d find out from Marcel. Hayley became animated and yelped, “Don’t do that! Just shut up!” before hurrying away.
Hayley (Marquita Goings) went back to her hotel room and was packing when there was a loud banging on the door. It was Randy (Maurice P. Kerry), who fumed that Hayley had sold him out. Hayley insisted she’d had to give up something as Marcel had been about to kill her, noting that she’d thought Randy was already out of town.
She proposed that they leave together now, but Randy raged that he had asked her to do that before she’d been caught. Hayley offered to make things up to Randy; he said she could do that by losing his number – especially now that he was stuck working for Joey the rest of his life because of her.
Don’t Give It Away
Ted (Keith D. Robinson) was showing Ashley (Jen Jacob) something on his phone at Garland Memorial when Shanice got in early, forcing Ashley and Ted to make up an unconvincing story about what they’d been looking at. Privately, Shanice told Ashley that she didn’t want Ted making any grand gestures at work, but Ashley assured her it was nothing like that.
Off duty, Ashley visited Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) at Uptown, gushing about the surprise vacation Ted was about to take Shanice on – which Leslie overheard. Ashley nearly begged Leslie not to ruin Ted’s plans, knowing how she had turned Shanice’s brothers against him; Leslie smirked that she had her “own boo” to focus on, then openly lusted over Grayson.
My Kind Of Party
Ted invited Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) to his office and told her that Vernon said he’d gotten Hayley under control. Beyond that, he told Nicole about his getaway with Shanice; Nicole scoffed that it was the wrong time for Ted to leave town right after Hayley weaponized Martin’s secret. Ted swore he wouldn’t even think of going away if he wasn’t confident Vernon had handled everything, and that if something came up, he would hurry right back.
Shanice was confused when Ashley returned, since she had clocked out. Ted arrived, and he and Ashley told Shanice she was going on vacation that very moment, and that Ashley was covering for her. Shanice was flustered, but Ted confirmed that he had packed some of her things. After hoping that Ted wasn’t taking her to some “damn campground,” Shanice allowed Ted to whisk her away to the unknown destination.
I Thought
Deanna sat with Noah (Nick Hagelin) at Orphey Gene’s, telling him how Vanessa had been carjacked and that she thought someone with an axe to grind with Joey had targeted her. Though Deanna hoped she’d convinced Vanessa to break up with Joey, Noah worried that Joey might instead drive a wedge between Deanna and Vanessa if Deanna kept pushing. Noah also wondered whether Doug had pushed Vanessa away, rather than the other way around, as Deanna had claimed.
After Noah left, Doug (Jason Graham) appeared to Deanna, but she wasn’t as enamored of his apparition as she’d been before. She asked him to explain why he had lied to his family about his drinking and gambling and laid that responsibility at his feet. “Doug” maintained that he had made it easy for Joey to take Vanessa from him, while Deanna acknowledged that “Doug” wasn’t really there…which made “Doug” dematerialize.
Nicole chatted with Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli), who relayed Deanna’s fear that her involvement with Joey might turn her and Donnell into orphans. Vanessa seemed to consider Nicole’s idea that she take the kids on a vacation as a break from Joey – though later, Deanna came to Vanessa wanting to know what Doug was really like in his final days. Once Vanessa grudgingly shared Doug’s duplicity, Deanna dropped her insistence that Vanessa break up with Joey; instead, she hoped Vanessa would eventually realize on her own that she deserved better.
Sing It Up
Noah arrived at the Dupree mansion at Anita’s invitation, still floored that the superstar had given him an audience. Anita (Tamara Tunie) was anxious to hear the new song Noah had been working on; after he played it through for her, she advised him to transcribe his chorus into a relative minor of the song’s key for maximum impact. Noah did so, and he was thrilled that Anita liked his work.
Having already checked in with Anita about Vernon’s progress with Hayley but getting no new news, Nicole stopped by to convey what Ted had said about Vernon neutralizing Hayley’s threat. Though that was the only update Nicole had, Anita trusted Vernon’s ability as a statesman to protect the family.
