UPDATED: Nominations for “The 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” were first announced in July, with the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization behind the awards show, announcing that the ceremony would take place on Friday, October 17 in Pasadena.
Soap Opera Network has since learned that the awards show will return to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium with the ceremony streaming live beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT for what is expected to be a three-hour telecast.
As previously reported, the organization will hold a single ceremony celebrating everyone in front of and behind the camera. In previous years, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which primarily honored those working behind the scenes, took place on a separate date, either before or after the main televised ceremony. Meanwhile, watch.theemmys.tv and its associated apps will be the exclusive method to watch this year’s telecast, despite inaccuracies shared online indicating CBS would once again carry the telecast – the network will launch all-new seasons of its Friday dramas the same night as the Daytime Emmys.
“We’re excited to recognize the exceptional individuals and teams who make daytime television great every year and in some cases, every day,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS, at the time nominations were released. He added, “As the Daytime landscape continues to expand, we’re excited to introduce new categories to recognize the boundary-pushing work being done, and we’re enthusiastic to convene with and celebrate the whole Daytime community in one ceremony.”
Among daytime dramas, “The Young and the Restless” leads with 19 nominations, followed by “General Hospital” with 16, “Days of our Lives” with 13 and “The Bold and the Beautiful” with four. “The Bay” and “Neighbours” each received just one nomination.
While much has been discussed about a drop in nominations for “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the reason is simply due to NATAS enforcing a longstanding rule, where any category that has fewer than ten (10) submissions, no more than 50% of submitted entries may be nominated. This is why “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Bay,” and “Neighbours” did not receive nominations in the Daytime Drama, Writing and Directing categories, as they had in prior years, particularly in the case of the former two shows.
According to NATAS, the enforcement of the rule will “ensure the integrity of NATAS competitions and maintain the reputation of excellence for nominees.”
Deborah Norville, who recently stepped down as anchor of “Inside Edition” after 30 years, will be this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
Beyond the Gates Eligibility
Just ahead of the nominations announcement in July, NATAS made note of two key items in a post on X (formerly Twitter), including:
- The eligibility window for the Daytime Emmys was calendar year 2024, so “Beyond the Gates” isn’t eligible for this year’s nominations. The series will be eligible based on calendar year 2025 for next year’s awards show, “The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.”
- All Daytime Emmy information will now be released via the @TheEmmys handle, with the organization formally discontinuing the use of the @DaytimeEmmys handle.
No Broadcast Partner
While CBS had previously broadcast the ceremony every year since 2020, and 18 times overall, the network will not carry the awards show this year, and it will not stream via Paramount+ either, as the network has not signed a new broadcasting agreement with NATAS.
