THE NUMBERS

We’re officially at the halfway mark of the 2021-2022 TV season as ratings for the week of March 14-18, 2022 represents the 26th week of the 52-week season. Some shows are doing better than others while some others might want to consider their options for next season. You can determine which ones we’re talking about in the comments below.

For the week, every daytime broadcast series was down week to week among Total Viewers with “General Hospital” (2.177 million) losing the least amount, down -21,000 viewers while the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (3.566 million) lost the most, down -451,000 viewers. The second half-hour (4.216 million) lost down -340,000 viewers. Compared to the same week in 2020 when viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19, the first half-hour is down -1.254 million viewers while the second half-hour is down -1.349 million viewers. Only “The Young and the Restless” (3.402 million) managed to maintain viewership somewhat on par with 2020 figures, down -43,000 viewers compared to 2020. In fact, week to week, “Y&R” is only down -39,000 viewers.

After beating “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.665 million) in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating one week earlier, “The Talk” (1.376 million) fell back to last place, falling the most week to week in both demos. More specifically, in Women 25-54 rating, “The Talk” tied both “GH” and “Y&R” in week to week losses, each down -0.05. Only “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.847 million) saw a week to week increase in both demos (up +0.01) while the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.809 million) and “The View” (2.276 million) were also up slightly in Women 18-49, “GMA3” was the only other show up week to week in Women 25-54 rating.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of March 14-18, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2020. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.

Note: Year to Year comparisons are currently unavailable due to a gap in data received by Soap Opera Network one year earlier. Comparisons to 2021 figures will return in a few weeks. Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were unavailable at press time which skews the rankings in those categories.

Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know” which was later rebranded to its current iteration, effective March 2020. “The Talk” was not rated by Nielsen during the comparable week in 2020.
