Last seen on the Monday, July 19 episode of “General Hospital,” Maxie Jones will be spending time in Texas for the foreseeable future so that portrayer Kirsten Storms can recover from brain surgery.

In early June, Storms announced during a series of Instagram stories that she had undergone surgery to remove a very large non-cancerous cyst in her head. “Less than 48 hours ago, I had brain surgery. Hence the neck brace. It was on the lower portion of my brain,” shared Storms on June 4. “Emme [Rylan; ex-Lulu Spencer, ‘GH’) is taking care of me until I get to my at-home nurse.”

“It has been an interesting last couple of days.” Storms said at the time. “What they had to drain and remove was not cancer; I want to clarify that right now before the Internet, like, goes crazy wild with rumors about this. I had a very large cyst that had split into two and the doctor said it was, like, so full, the pressure was very noticeable when they opened up my skull.” She added, “I will be on the mend for the next several weeks. I will be back at work when this is over with.”

In a follow-up post, Storms explained that she had been experiencing “random health issues” over the years but disregarded them as side effects of medication or aging. After getting an MRI just to be on the safe side, she learned that she had a “rather large, very full of fluid, cyst” attached to the lower portion of her brain.” She said, “I feel very fortunate that my situation wasn’t more serious and that I had a wonderful neurosurgeon who immediately knew how to fix it. I’m not gonna lie, brain surgery had me nervous, but I’m immensely thankful to my family, friends, and incredible ‘work family’ who have been supportive, kind and loving during a time when I’ve been feeling a lot of emotions.”

With a poll showing an overwhelming number of people interested in seeing the back of her shaved head, stitches and all, Storms said on June 16, “‘Yes, duh’ had 100% of the vote this morning to see the back of my head. I didn’t know you guys would be up for it! Swipe to see the pic from last week!”

During her recovery period, Storms has been binge-watching “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which she credits little sister Gretchen Storms for getting her into, enjoying time with daughter Harper, and crocheting, among other things. Most of all, she’s getting better. “My doctor says I’m healing really well,” she revealed earlier this month.

For those wondering when she’ll be back on set, as stated in her original Instagram story upon revealing her medical situation, Storms said, “I will be back at work when this is over with.”

We’re glad to hear Storms is doing well and we can’t wait to see her back at it as Maxie on “GH.”
