Nice to see BB back up in the ratings. Congrats to them!

  • Paul

Days is really boring at the moment as a Ejami fan I wanted Sami to know the truth a long time ago we nearly June now and still they not had her find out about EJ’s betrayal. By the time the secret comes out Sami and EJ will nearly be gone from the show we won’ see any drama at all between Ejami I assume they are relying ion this storyline to bump up ratings. But what they don’t realise is people sick of the storyline its moving far to slow no wonder ratings are rubbish. I can say the same all the other story’s on Days moving at such a slow pace this show is going end being in trouble ratings are down from last year and when Alison and James leave our screen in October they won’t have them to rely anymore to get them out of trouble like in recent years.

  • Usagi101

I really think it’s time to change writers @ days and start bringing back old characters and backburn Daniel and Jennifer for good. Time to shake things up at days to get those ratings up.

    • TV&MovieBuff

I think they are in talks with some old stars to return, but how much damage is going to be done by the time they show up. They have already filmed and taped up to the latter part of this year. They are announcing some returns way too soon. It seems like forever since they announced Eileen Davidson was returning and that Eve was returning with Kassie DePaiva. With their schedule they need to wait and announce closer to the time they are going to appear. They lose momentum announcing so far ahead IMO anyway.

      • Usagi101

Yes that’s 100 percent true. I wish they went back to filming 3 months ahead of time because they’re going to be shooting November sweeps soon if not filming already. They need to figure out a way to like take a step back and relax. 5 months is really pushing it!

        • TV&MovieBuff

I think November sweeps has already been filmed. It was reported that Alison Sweeney taped her final scenes the week of May 21st. At one time it was reported she would last air in December or January. So if she has finished taping already then November sweeps has to be done. They are already filming at least December. If ratings keep going down, it could be sometime next year before we could see any changes. The Kristen return, the return of Eve, and the departure stories for EJ and Sami have got to be great.

What is even weirder to think about is that Alison Sweeney and James Scott could get jobs on other soaps, and their stories on those soaps could be competing against their departure stories on Days. They both have finished their contracts at Days now so they are free agents now.

          • sands of time

Alison Sweeney has been very vocal about loving DAYS and wanting more free time for her kids. She is not going to another soap. She even wants to reprise Sami for special visits.

          • sands of time

It is purely speculation if DAYS already taped November sweeps.

          • sands of time

We often hear about May and November sweeps. Isn’t there sweeps for February and July?

          • Andrew Hass

DOOL tapes 5 months in advance because Camilla Banus last taped in January and her scenes will last air in June.So since Allison Sweeney wrapped her taping on May 23rd her last scenes should air in late October or so.As for Allsion Sweeney going to another soap she has said the only soap she would want to be on is DOOL.Plus i don’t see her immediately jumping one full time gig to another because she wants to spend time with her family now with Summer approaching.

          • TV&MovieBuff

As to whether or not November is taped or not — this is June now so it is firmly written and starting to tape. Actors that will be needed have already been locked down. It is too late to make changes now and keep their schedule.

It doesn’t change the fact that they have a lot riding on these next few months, and with so far ahead they still can’t make changes for 5 to 7 months.

If ratings start to crash after Scott and Sweeney’s departures it will be 5 to 7 months before changes will even show up.

As to Sweeney’s departure and what she will do next, I have learned 1 thing in almost 40 years of watching soap operas — nothing is ever set in stone with any actor’s departure from any show. I have read and heard actor’s say they aren’t going to do this or that and the next week they do the exact opposite.

Frank Valentini could offer one of his primo short stints or a role with lots of time off since they write stories heavy for awhile and then nothing for awhile. She could begin taping there next month, and the stuff would start airing about the time of her departure from Days.

I’m not saying it is going to happen but it is a possibility due to Days schedule.

As to Sweeney and her last episodes — all I was basing it on was what everyone was saying when she announced she was leaving. Every time anyone said she would be gone before the end of the year — it was retaliated with that she would be there til the end of the year or into 2014. If that last part is true then Days has taped at least some things more than 5 months ahead of time.

          • Andrew Hass

Even though DOOL tapes 5 months in advance they write the scenes at least a month or so before that.As for Allison Sweeney she has said the only soap she would want to be on is DOOL but if the right offer came along she might be tempted to take it.However she may not want to be tied down long term. However right now Allison may just want to spend the whole Summer with her family which is something she may not have been able to do before. However when her kids go back to school in the Fall Allison might be willing to come back to Days or go to another soap.As for GH they tape a month or so in advance versus Days who tapes 5 months in advance. So if Allison does sign with GH down the line she could be appearing on 2 soaps at the same time.

          • TV&MovieBuff

            Yes she could.

As to the way they tape and write you’re still not saying anything different than me. I said it would be 6 or 7 months before any changes show up. I’m still write.

Scott and Sweeney finished taping in May and will most likely stop airing in October 2014.

In October 2014 Days will have filmed all the way to March 2015 and they will have already written scripts for April 2014 and begin taping them in November 2014. If ratings begin to collapse when they are off screen they won’t jump to immediate changes they will give it a few weeks at least. That will put them into May 2015 at the most before big changes begin to show up.

They might retape some of the shows already taped but they won’t do that many because of the budget. Remember between MarDar and Tomlin they only tweaked some of the shows, again it was said because it was too expensive to retape them all.

          • sands of time

The ratings collapse is elsewhere. Trouble is over YondeR.

  • Andrew Hass

I’m happy for GH and B&B for having a great week ratings wise.

  • TV&MovieBuff

Glad B&B had a good week. Love this show.

  • JayTN

Hidden inside these numbers…look at how close B&B was to Y&R on Wednesday. B&B had 3.75 million viewers and Y&R had 4.21 million. That’s less than half a million separating the two soaps. This is all speculation on my part, but if Y&R were to dip below 4 million viewers during a weekday (or, God forbid, for an entire week) or dip below a 3.0 daily rating, Sony and CBS may have no choice but to can producer Jill Farren Phelps. If for no other reason than how that would appear. Y&R seems to flirt with both on Fridays. This is the third week in a row where Y&R scored a 3.1 on Friday.

    • ROBNYC

So true. I basically echoed your opinion about the numbers.

    • sands of time

      There’s trouble over YondeR.

I have said it before but it looks like B/B is going to overtake Y/R. The Bells know their stuff and for the life of me I cannot figure out how Jill Farren Phelps still gets EP jobs. She is the worst and everybody knows it. For the record, I wasn’t a MM fan but used to enjoy the storytelling on Y/R. Not anymore. Now it’s just trash. If they hired a good EP I would come back.

    • sands of time

      Trouble over YondeR.

  • David

Fantastic news for GH FV/RC continue to keep the show alive. Despite all the complaining these numbers show that the majority of the people are enjoying GH Way to go cast and crew of GH as well.

  • vivien

Well, if GH’s ratings are up then I am obviously out of touch with what the majority of soap viewers like and I should just stop commenting. There’s no romance, just mob stuff and silly Scooby Doo mask stories. But obviously this is what gets ratings. I give up.

    • TV&MovieBuff

That’s the reason for true soap opera I turn to prime time shows now. They are more closely written to the type of soap opera I grew up on and learned to love. I stick to Y&R and B&B and try to hope for better days (esp. with Y&R), and I casually watch Days — but I honestly don’t think either of them will ever be what they used to be again. The powers that be behind them just don’t have the talent or even worse they just don’t care anymore.

      • vivien

ITA, soaps used to be the place I went to for a good love story. But lately primetime “soaps” have been outshining them. About 15 yrs. ago (same time I started going online) I started noticing a shift. Soaps no longer did traditional love stories, they did “shippers wars” and the couple that made the most noise online was the one that “won”. Oh yeah, they have shippers wars for primetime shows too, but my favorites are the ones that telegraph in no uncertain terms which couple you’re supposed to root for. Shows like ‘Castle’, ‘Bones’ –even “The Office” had better love stories than I’ve seen on daytime soaps! What fun is it to watch faithfully year after year, only to have the couple you love NEVER have a wedding, never be happy even for a few episodes. Soaps used to be so good about this. There was a HUGE payoff for your years of watching. Even if there were problems afterwards, at least you got SOME happiness. If you can’t tell, this is my biggest beef with soaps lately. What DAYS has done to Ericole and their fans is a crime. But they’re certainly not the only “non-starters” I’ve been subject to. Sick to death of it.

I wish the site moderators would look at what can be done with all the reporting of posts. Since Disqus removed the vote down option people are instead flagging posts that should not need to be flagged. Then those comments say awaiting moderation. Some get deleted others stay. There has to be some solution as despite differences in opinion this flagging of posts unnecessarily has gotten out of hand.

  • TimsDale4ever

Y&R just needs better storylines period. I still don’t care for the constant showcasing of the newest characters, but I could deal with them IF they had a great story to go along with them. Colin and Jill are ridiculous; the Bakery nonsense needs to go, “Stitch in time”; and useless Ian that no one cares about are just a few. There’s great potential right there but they keep putting it off. New Phyllis and new Adam should have already returned to the show months ago to stir things up. I know they’re coming, but the wait has hurt the show. It’s not like there are dozens of other “interesting” things that needed to be wrapped up first so they can’t use that as an excuse. Jill’s search for her inheritance could have been an extremely interesting global pursuit with lots of danger and intrigue and also uncovering a part of Katherine’s life that the other characters and viewers know nothing about. Jill never leaves the living room. And for God’s sake, speed the dang show up already. Why it takes someone an entire episode to cover a general dinner conversation is beyond me. Why destroy your show this way?
