  • let the numbers speak

Gosh, SON should work on their headlines, because these numbers are still fantastic, especially in the women 18-49 key demo, where soaps are drawing the best ratings of all daytime programs by far!!

So, congrats to all soaps for these impressive numbers, the best in many years!

And once again, why is SON not publishing season averages anymore? Are they too good (the best in household ratings since the 2007-08 season!!) for their anti-soaps and pro-talk/cooking/game shows agenda??

    • TV&MovieBuff

If you hate SON as much as you say you do then why do you come here. You know you don’t have to. Why don’t you go and find the board that is as perfect as you are and post there.

Is the headline that SON posted not true?

SON could have put up some fancy headline but when you opened up the ratings the truth would still be there all the soaps still fell this week in the 18-49. No fancy headline is going to take that fact away.

The soaps are still up over last year. A bad headline is still not going to take that away.

The numbers are what they are. Dressing them up or trying to dress them down won’t hide the numbers. If a soap is down it is down. If it is up it is up. Trying to paint them up and spin them is stupid.

I don’t understand the bad numbers DAYS receives for Fridays.

        Do you have any theories?

        • Mike

I was wondering the same thing. I noticed both Days and GH both lost close to 5 million viewers from Thursday to Fridays episode. The only explanation I can come up with is it was Valentines Day

          • sands of time

I thought the losses were close to 500 thousand. What gives?

        • TV&MovieBuff

I wouldn’t put much into it for this week. If I am thinking right Thursday and Friday were big storm days in the south and east coast. Atlanta and parts of Alabama got hit by ice and then snow. Plus you had Valentine’s on Friday.

It has been happening for a few years now that Friday seems to be the worse day of the week for soaps now. Lots of theories have been offered. I think for the most part people are getting ready for the weekend and probably just choose to DVR that day more than the others. Mondays are usually the best or one of the better days of the week so they usually return.

If both days were down and it went on for a long time then it would be something to be concerned about but for now it all works out steady when you average the whole week.

          • sands of time

            Thank you!

    • Bexx

I long for the day that SON bans you for these accusations you make every week.

  • moshane58

Like to know what happen to GH on Friday….

  • Andrew Hass

The week to week ratings always go up and down for the soaps. One week the ratings could be up and the next could be down.I think the important thing is how the soaps are doing from the same time last year and in total viewers all 4 soaps are up from last year.

  • Bexx

Doesn’t seem like that huge of a loss considering some of the numbers we’ve seen over the years. Meh.

  • Kelly25

“let the numbers speak” is totally right!

Great numbers across the board and the season averages continue to be the best in many years!

    • TV&MovieBuff

And he has created so many accounts under other names across this and other boards how do we not know you are not him. How does it feel to agree with yourself just to make yourself look more important? Sorry it doesn’t work.

      • damian_malta

        Suffering from paranoia?

        • Bexx

You must be ‘new’ around here.

  • mdbball02

VERY DISAPPONTING THAT those who profess to LOVE Y&R didn’t join the rest of us who boycotted for the month to get the Executive Producer who is RUINING THIS GREAT SHOW fired! If you keep giving her viewers CBS/SONT won’t fire her and the parade of BAD, FAILED actors and actresses she keeps bringing in, and the loss of GREAT EMMY WINNERS (like Billy Miller) will continue. CBS and SONY sees that they can let this woman put CRAP on the screen and you will keep tuning in so don’t expect it to get any better….VERY DISAPPOINTED! Would love to see how many viewers they actually DID lose for the MONTH of February…not just last week!

    • GO Y&R

1102, if YOU think the show is that bad, YOU stop watching, because obviously others do not agree big time….& we are right.

      • mdbball02

Obviously YOU haven’t watched Y&R since the beginning. These storylines are dark and ridiculous (for Y&R Standards) and the 20 year old brats JFP has brought in from all her failed shows in the past cannot act their way out of a paper bag–Summer, Fen, new Kyle, PLEASE! I LOVE Y&R, what I can’t stand is how this Executive Producer is ruining it! And YES I HAVE STOPPED WATCHING, until she is gone! (You’ll thank me someday when they fire Ms. Phelps (the EP)…..

        • TV&MovieBuff

Y&R has it’s full share of dark stories from the beginning. A young girl who never slept with a guy gets raped. A mother and daughter practically don’t speak, have it out, and then she almost dies leaving the daughter to feel it is all her fault. Those were stories just in the first few years while Bill Bell was writing the show. Later on we dealt with Victor trying to bury a guy alive and kept him captive for months and a mother-in-law who hated her daughter-in-law so much she committed suicide just to frame her for murder. More rapes. Stories on white slavery and teenage alcoholism. Then just in the last few years you had a character cause a woman to miscarry and then he threw that dead fetus in a fireplace. He slept with a man just to keep him from revealing his secrets. And on and on. Oh yeah Y&R has just started telling dark stories recently. Thank god it never has before. And thank goodness that they have never fired anyone that fans loved too or lost a performer that was popular. They are just lucky none of that has ever happened and they were able to stay number 1 all those years because of it.

          • mdbball02

Yes there has been dark stories in the past, but they were ususally surrounded by several stories of romance and happiness by others in the cast. Since JFP came in it’s ALL DARK…where is the happiness in GC right now? There is NONE! Even Avery and Dylan’s story is stricken with angst over Ian! (Spinning Nink and Sharon back into bed is not adding romance either…) No one in GC is HAPPY NONE if them!

          • TV&MovieBuff

You remember a completely different show than me then esp. in the first few years. Y&R was a dark show with the jealousy between Lorrie and Leslie, Leslie’s mental problems, Brad didn’t know who he was, Katherine was a drunk and in a loveless marriage, Jill was unhappy, Snapper was in love with Chris but having sex with Sally who he got pregnant, Chris was raped, and on and on. Even Stuart and Jennifer were dealing with marital conflict due to her infidelity and then her breast cancer. Liz was raising her family alone, and Greg was pining after his brother’s girlfriend. It was a well-written psychological drama with dark stories and it stayed that way for many years. Bell followed the way he wrote Days and couples were never happy for very long at all. He kept their lives filled with angst and turmoil.

Even once Lorrie found happiness with Lance, he was in love with her sister and got her pregnant. Liz finally found happiness with Stuart but then he married her daughter Jill.

I don’t remember anyone ever being happy for very long. If they were they were put on the back burner or written out of the show.

          • Bexx

Thank you! People need to stop pretending it’s something the show, and move along. If your favorite has left, and you no longer want to watch, just go. Why try to ruin it for everyone else who doesn’t share the same opinion?

    • sands of time

You may want to watch the emmy award winning Days of our Lives, which also won the writers guild of america award and was voted as the best daytime drama ever and has been picked up for two more years and will once again have the incredible Eileen Davidson and the newly added Kassie DePaiva!!! I’ve been jumping for joy for 2 years now. DAYS is deliriously dynamic!!!!!

      • mdbball02

I am one of the new viewers of DOOL! Never watched it growing up, but have been watching daily for the month of Feb and I think I get who everyone is so far … it is good! I also gave up on B&B 6 months ago and resumed watching GH which I LOVE!

        • sands of time

Great! DOOL has a lot of subtext and history, so it will take a while but will be rewarding!!!

    • fanny

It was never my intention to boycott Y&R, but just give the viewers some time and they’ll probably do just like I did: watch less and less. I used to tape Y&R until I realised I fast-forward most of it. So now, when I’m home i’ll watch it, but the minute I see Avery & Dylan(snoozefest) or Abby & Tyler(gagfest) or the whole Winters family saga(boringfest), I switch channels, ASAP. My favorite couple was Victoria & Billy(Billy Miller) and now that’s gone. No offense to David Tom who took over a difficult task, but the magic and chemistry of this couple is no longer there. Even the confrontations between Billy-boy and Victor lack some punch. Y&R just doesn’t have the feel it once had. Very sad indeed!

  • Sandy

What did you expect? Those who stop watching will be the under 50 set. Y&R still has lots of viewers over that age who are devoted to the veterans. I’m under 50 and stopped watching after I heard Billy Miller and MM leaving. They kept the show interesting. But I am realistic, I think Y&R ratings will still be okay for awhile in total viewers. I got 20 good years out of Y&R that’s not bad, time to move on I guess. The end of Y&R for me was really Jeanne Cooper passing, a fitting goodbye.

    • mdbball02

I’m 52 my mother is 73 and we stopped watching, after watching sine the beginning, to get the EP fired for ruining the show, including not getting Billy Miller to sign. She is ruining the show we have LOVEd for decades. Her choices and decisions are going to get this show cancelled. People DON’T like the terrile actresses and actors she has brought in, nor the fact our favorites have left, and she reportedly laughs and say 2 weeks later we won’t miss Billy Miller? She does not CARE about preserving the integrity of this program, and as long as everyone keeps watching, she wins! Those boycotting were trying to send a message to CBS/SONY that #1 status isn’t guaranteed, no matter how much they let her do. If was CS/SONY that oked her killing Delia (the next generation of the Abbott family we could have watched grow up!) And then the dark story that ensued has taken over the whole cast! Winter’s Wednesdays are TERRIBLE, and leaving Katherine’s co to Victor, $$ to Devon was RIDICULOUS for lifelong fans! JILL should have gotten it all, and everyone knows that!

I grew up watching dool since I was 3 years old I am proud of dool for they’re improvement for their biggest numbers ever
