Wow this is awesome great news for GH. The show is on fire and the ratings are showing it!

    • TiredSoapFan

I guess last week when tons tuned out or even the last few weeks when the show was down the ratings were showing how awful it was too. Oh wait according to online boards when the show was down it was Nielsen’s fault because GH was so good there was no way the ratings were right. But this week the NIelsen’s are okay and ratings are up because the show is on fire. I never understand the logic of these things.

This show LOST 140,000 during September, lol, so one week of good ratings is not going to support the “on fire” description. And since GH was registering new all time lows last year, being up from there should have happened months ago. I don’t begrudge GH gaining viewers, but can we use some logic before proclaiming Cartini saints and saviors? I agree with TSF, when GH lost 100,000 viewers the first week of September everyone should have been proclaiming how bad the show was!

I think many are watching till Steve exits.

    • Didja Noit

I agree, Steve Burton’s Jason is a very popular character and just as many tuned in for the AMC & OLTL finales, people are tuning in to see his last days on GH. The Cartini fans are getting way too wound up about this being due to the show being so good, lol. It’s going to be a big let down when Steve’s fans leave again and the ratings fall.

well at least it is far better than for the other soaps (Days is awful) and for GH last year…

        • TiredSoapFan

right now saying GH is better than Days is like saying one form of trash is less stinky than another. That is not something to exactly be proud of.

        I agree

    Go GH !

  • TiredSoapFan

I agree with others to a certain extent about it being more to say goodbye and stuff. But then at the same time I don’t know about some fans today who call stuff great that is in no way great. I have tried to give GH the benefit of the doubt and watch but after this last week there is just no way I can ever support Ron C. on anything he does. And so I am not even tuning in to say goodbye to Steve or the show as long as Ron C. is there.

I just don’t know how we can go from writers like Douglas Marland, Agnes Nixon, etc. who put so much into their stories, their shows, and making soap operas credible and something to be proud of. And then to someone like Ron Carlavati and his stories of rape, making mental illness a joke, mysogyny to the upteenth degree, etc. And from writers who cared about the viewer and the characters to someone like Ron C. who gets on Twitter and ridicules fans and says who is a true fan and who isn’t.

No wonder people on message boards feel like they can try to censor folks and dictate who is a true fan and who isn’t. Look who their leader is.

Ron C. you need to remember the same fans you are ridiculing and making fun of are the fans you have to please to keep getting your paycheck. Maybe you feel confident enough that you still have enough folks who are blinded by your stupidity that they will continue to watch no matter what you do. But think again buddy. Soap fans I have learned over the years are very fickle folks. They can turn on you in a dime. Also many of us are wising up. And turning out TVs off. I refuse to be a part of what you are doing to GH.

This tired soap fan would rather watch You Tube clips of old GH or anything that airs opposite GH on the TV dial than to watch one minute of the awful stuff you write.

Maybe you need to look up something called Douglas Marland’s rules and dictate them to yourself. Since you want to dictate who is a true fan — maybe you can learn what it is to be a true soap opera writer instead of a hack.

I agree : what RC said on twitter was stupid but for his stories, it is a soap where storylines have always been over the top and it is General Hospital where for decades mobsters are/were the main characters and finally trying to look at soap operas for ‘good morality’..is well quite asinine..to say the least..imo.

      • TiredSoapFan

I don’t look to soaps for morality, but I do look for stories that have a clear beginning, middle and end. And at least have good dialogue and are true to a characters history, etc. Even when writers like Douglas Marland or Agnes Nixon wrote over the top stories, they were well written and true to character. And they had a clear passion and caring for the shows in which they wrote for. It was Douglas Marland who said that when a viewer says a character would never do that then as a writer you have failed. Ron C. tells fans who said that to quit watching and then if they quit watching he says they are not true fans.

I would never want stories to be about moral issues. Life isn’t even about moral issues all the time — at least not about good morals. I don’t mind stories about rape, adultery, etc. if they are done right. But a story that makes fun of rape victims or paints a rapist as the one in the right or an object to be fought over. Then that is wrong and gone too far.

I mean at least when you had Luke as a rapist the other men in Port Charles were something to want. But what in the world is wrong with all the women in Port Charles these days when the men they fight over are rapists and mobsters. And Ron C. loves to feature the redeemed rapists or men who take advantage of women.

And as to the mobsters in PC for so long. Believe I have been writing ABC abotu that for years. Sad Guza was given a hard time about that but Ron C. seems to get a pass. And he just keeps bringing in more and more mobsters.

I actually believe that Ron C is correct to say that if a person stops watching the show then they are not a true fan. True fans do not stop watching their soaps just because the story line isn’t to their liking. People are too ficky these days. Why can’t they just enjoy the show and stop moaning. TSF, when I read your post you seemed to make your argument very personal. If you want to stop watching by all means please do. One viewer tuning out isn’t going to kill the genre.

Days hasn’t been 2 points and above since EJami and the Daysaster. Looks like MarDar should never have been let go. TIIC made a big mistake.

  • aspengler1

It’s no surprise GH went up. GH had Connie’s reveal at the non-wedding, Joe kidnapping Kristina and getting shot, and the truth about the babies coming to light. When the stories move, the audience shows up. Maybe they learned something. Keep the story arcs short!
