The week of September 13-17, 2021 marked the final week of the 2020-2021 television season. While most shows were either stable or slightly down week to week, ABC’s “General Hospital” was the standout performer in both week to week and year to year comparisons. Without preemptions or reruns factored into its ratings this week, the soap was daytime’s biggest gainer in all key categories. On the opposite side, the season premieres of CBS game shows “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” saw steep declines compared to the same week last year and talk show “The Talk” continues bleeding viewers despite changes to its panel, including the addition of two male co-hosts.

Entering its 12 season last week, “The Talk” remains daytime broadcast’s least watched and lowest rated series. “The Young and the Restless” dropped to fourth place in Women 18-49 rating and placed third in Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, behind only the two half hours of “The Price is Right” in the latter three categories. The soap saw minor declines week to week while retaining positives year to year in Households and Total Viewers. “The View” lost the most viewers year to year, down nearly half a million compared to the same week last year while shedding audience week to week just two weeks into its landmark 25th season. All daytime shows saw erosion year to year in both Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 rating.

“General Hospital” Ratings

The wedding of Carly Corinthos and Jason Morgan (Laura Wright and Steve Burton), and Sonny (Maurice Benard) regaining his memories, along with several other storylines reaching their climax, led “GH” to its best performance in Total Viewers since the week of April 13, 2020. Overall, 2.389 million viewers watched a week filled with explosive cliffhangers. The soap was up +438,000 viewers week to week and up +362,000 viewers year to year. In the key sales demos, “GH” topped “The Bold and the Beautiful” for the first time since the week of December 21, 2020 in both Women 25-54 rating and in Women 18-49 rating.“GH” grew the most week to week in Women 25-54 rating, up +0.11 to place fourth. Only 0.05 rating points separated the soap from tying third place “Y&R.” Similarly, “GH” placed fifth in Women 18-49, up +0.08 week to week, and was just 0.03 ratings points away from tying fourth place “Y&R.” In Households, “GH” hit a 1.6 rating for the first time since the week of June 21-25, 2021.

“The Young and the Restless” Ratings

“The Young and the Restless” declined week to week in Women 25-54 rating, down -0.04 and down -0.02 year to year with a 0.37 demo while in Women 18-49 rating the soap was also down -0.03 week to week and down -0.02 year-to-year with a 0.61 demo. Overall, “Y&R” placed third for the week in Total Viewers with 3.463 million viewers tuning in on average which was a gain of +51,000 viewers week to week and a gain of +484,000 viewers year to year.

“Days of our Lives” Ratings

Increasing week to week in Total Viewers (+38,000), “Days of our Lives” attracted 1.697 million viewers which when rounded up brings the show back to a 1.7 million viewers average. The soap saw declines in Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 rating, however. Year to year, “DAYS” shed -0.13 in Women 25-54 rating (0.38 vs 0.51) and -0.09 in Women 18-49 rating (0.25 vs 0.34). Week to week, “DAYS” was down -0.02 in Women 25-54 rating and down -0.02 in Women 18-49 rating. The soap along with “The View,” both half hours of “The Price is Right” and both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” saw declines year to year in Total Viewers with “DAYS” down the least (-56,000).

“The Bold and the Beautiful” Ratings

Gaining +320,000 viewers year to year, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.941 million) was the only soap to see a decline in Total Viewers week to week. The soap was flat in Households week to week (2.0 rating). In the demos, “B&B” fell to fifth place in Women 25-54 with a 0.55 rating, down -0.02 week to week, and fell to sixth place in Women 18-49 with a 0.32 rating, down -0.01 week to week.

“The View” Ratings

Seeing the steepest declines in the demos, more than any other daytime broadcast program, “The View” averaged a 0.44 in Women 25-54 rating, down -0.02 week to week and down -0.17 year to year. In Women 18-49 rating, “The View” was flat week to week (0.28 rating) while down -0.10 year to year. In Total Viewers, the show shed -119,000 viewers week to week and -454,000 year to year.
