THE NUMBERS

The summer season is quickly approaching and it looks like “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” will be enjoying their best summer numbers in two years when you factor in last year’s rerun-filled schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the week of May 10-14, 2021, the CBS daytime dramas each gained over one million viewers compared to their performances on the year-ago week (week of May 11-15, 2020) when they aired classic episodes featuring high fashion couture and rivalries.

Y&R” ranked #1 in Women 25-54 rating and tied for first place with the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” in Women 18-49, both with a 0.48 demo. The soap gained nearly 1.1 million viewers over the year-ago week. Close behind in W18-49 was “Today 3rd Hour” in third place (0.45) and a tie for fourth between the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” and “B&B,” each with a 0.41 rating in W18-49. Placing third outright in W25-54 with a 0.64 rating, “B&B” beat out “Today 3rd Hour” (0.62) and the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (0.60).

Although “General Hospital” lost -111,000 viewers week-to-week and just -32,000 year-to-year, the soap was actually up week-to-week in both W18-49 and W25-54, and again beat out the performances of its network counterparts “The View” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know.” Speaking of “The View,” the talk show is missing election season as more than half a million viewers have tuned out of the show compared to its performance on the year-ago week. The ABC talker was up a smidge week-to-week in the demos but down slightly year-to-year. “GMA3” is underperforming compared to its performance on the year-ago week when it was titled “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.”

Coming off of news of its two-year renewal, “Days of our Lives” was up week-to-week in the demos ad also gained the most viewers week-to-week.

“The Talk” remained in last place across households, total viewers and both sales demos. However, the show was flat year-to-year in W18-49 and up slightly year-to-year in W25-54.

“The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” are coming off of a massive gain in demos and viewers on the year-ago week which saw millions of viewers wanting to curl up with some fun and games on TV.

What follows is a rundown of how the daytime shows performed during the week of May 10-14, 2021 in Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, the primary sales demos that determine advertising rates for daytime television programming. We’re also now once again able to include households and total viewers, however, figures are not available for “Today 3rd Hour” or “Today with Hoda & Jenna” in terms of our weekly reporting. The two traditionally rank eighth and 11th, respectively, in both categories.

Note: Last Week/Last Year (+/-) denotes changes in performance from the prior week and the year-ago week. Numbers in blue denote increases compared to last week/last year.
