The Friday, October 16 episode of “The Young and the Restless” kicked off with friends and family gathering to celebrate Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) in what has been dubbed the wedding of the year.
With the festivities continuing on Monday, October 19, fans of the daytime drama series can look forward to a surprise guest. Meanwhile, the show’s official YouTube channel posted a behind-the-scenes look at the wedding, featuring interviews with cast members, including the Bride, Groom, and members of the Wedding Party. The channel has also published clips from what fans can expect as the wedding continues.
Speaking of the significance of a soap opera wedding, Thompson said, “A day like this changes the show. It changes your character. It changes how you show up because it’s just the relationships are all different instantly like that. And even just to be trusted with these types of storylines, you know it’s a lot.” He added, “This is so much bigger than just Sally and Billy. It’s a soap wedding, and these go on for generations and decades. People continue to watch.”
Meanwhile, with several weddings under his belt after playing Jack Abbott for nearly 40 years, portrayer Peter Bergman notes, “Anytime we have all the Abbotts together, I’m a happy man. It’s a great thing. It really is. It’s lovely. It’s lovely. And it’s rare. It’s rare that we have all the Abbotts in one room. So yeah, I’m particularly happy.”
