Former “General Hospital: Night Shift” head writer Sri Rao has signed on to write the pilot of an untitled Bollywood comedy for ABC inspired by the real-life story of Indian actress Madhuri Dixit. Rao will also executive produce alongside Dixit, her husband Shriram Nene, Mark Gordon, Nick Pepper and “Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra.
The single-camera comedy series follows a former Bollywood star who moves to the American suburbs with her bi-cultural family and tries to bring more color to an otherwise dull town.
The Mark Gordon Company (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Quantico,” “Ray Donovan”) will co-produce the potential series with ABC Studios.
Rao served as head writer of “General Hospital: Night Shift” during the second season of the primetime spin-off of ABC’s “General Hospital.”
