Say what you will about “Days of our Lives’” Nancy Wesley, but she is definitely a character fans just love to hate. The same can’t be said of her portrayer, Patrika Darbo, who is loved, loved, loved all around for her humor, candidness and ability to play one of daytime’s baddest bitches!
“It is the best character to play,” raves Darbo of Chloe Lane’s mom, a role she originated back in 1998. “Every day, I thank goodness [for] the fact that I get to play this role that they created for me, and that they have kept her coming back.”
On Saturday, April 6, ABC News’ “20/20″ takes a behind the scenes look at ABC’s “General Hospital” as the soap celebrates 50 years on television.
Hosted by Katie Couric, “The Real Soap Dish” gives you a glimpse at the making of an iconic soap and interviews with such stars as Rick Springfield (Noah Drake), Jack Wagner (Frisco Jones), Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer), Genie Francis (Laura Spencer), Sean Kanan (AJ Quartermaine), Ian Buchanan (Duke Lavery), Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake), Sean Blakemore (Shawn Butler), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia Falconeri), Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall), Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jacks), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber), and many more.
On Monday, April 1, ABC’s “General Hospital” turns 50! In honor of the event, fans have been anticipating the return of one of the shows grandest events…the Nurses Ball. While things don’t kick into high gear for the event until the Friday, April 5 episode, we at Soap Opera Network wanted to make sure you got a glimpse of some of your favorite actors before their characters start singing, dancing, and throwing punches.
Beginning Wednesday, February 6, fans of “General Hospital’s” Sean Kanan (AJ Quartermaine) can see/hear the actor in a different light as the daytime star has signed on with UBN Radio Network to launch a new radio show, “Kanan’s Rules,” with wife, Michele. The show will air live in both audio and streaming video via http://www.ubnradio.com from the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood.
On Wednesday, January 30, “General Hospital’s” Sean Kanan (AJ Quartermaine) will be putting his comedic chops on display for Mavrick Artists Agency’s Comedy Showcase being held in Los Angeles, CA. The event is being hosted by Lorenzo Lamas, who co-starred with Kanan back in the early 2000′s on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Lamas portrayed Hector Ramirez on the CBS daytime soap.
The event will be held at The Comedy Store, located at 8433 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90069. You must be 21 years old or older in order to gain admission. For more information, call (323) 650-6268 or visit thecomedystore.com. Doors open at 7:30 PM for a prompt start time set for 8:00 PM.

Although fans of ABC’s “General Hospital” got their first glimpse of Sean Kanan back on screen as AJ Quartermaine on the Friday, October 26 episode, they didn’t learn much about why the character had returned to Port Charles. Kanan himself may be able to shed some light when he joins fans for an upcoming live Twitter chat during the east coast broadcast of the daytime drama series.
With Monica (Leslie Charleson) appearing overjoyed after seeing at least one of her sons still alive (Jason “died” just last week), one has to wonder who else will be happy to see AJ back, if anyone, as the character (last portrayed by Billy Warlock) was killed off in a murder mystery storyline that resulted in everyone discovering it was Michael’s psychiatrist that murdered the alcoholism plagued Quartermaine back in 2005. It’s not likely Carly (Laura Wright) or Michael (Chad Duell) will be happy to see the man back in town, much less still alive, but his return will sure help drive some juicy storytelling for all of Port Charles.
As part of “ABC’s Trick or Tweet” week, which began on Wednesday, October 24, Kanan joins a number of ABC’s primetime and daytime stars as they tweet live during Halloween-inspired episodes of their shows. On Monday, October 29,From 2:00-3:00 PM ET/11:00 AM-Noon PT, Kanan will be answering questions submitted by fans who use the official #GH hashtag via his Twitter page (@SeanKanan).
With word of Sean Kanan returning to “General Hospital” next month in an as yet to-be-determined role, despite portraying AJ Quartermaine 15 years ago on the drama series, I recently noted an uncanny similarity Kanan currently has with former co-star and on screen brother Steve Burton.
With Burton departing the role of Jason Morgan and rumors of Kanan set to take over the role, a recent promo shot of Kanan has one wondering if in fact he does return as a recast Jason, if fans will really notice much of a difference.
For more than 12 years Sean Kanan has been portraying the role of the flawed Deacon Sharpe on CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless,” but for fans of “General Hospital” he is best known for his portrayal of AJ Quartermaine. Last seen in 1997 as AJ went toe-to-toe with Carly Roberts (now Carly Jacks) as played by Sarah Brown, fans were shocked to find the role recast with actor Billy Warlock. According to published reports, Kanan had been fired by then executive producer Wendy Riche because of issues relating to alcohol use. In 2005, Warlock’s AJ was killed off by a psychotic psychiatrist, but after a 15 year absence from the canvas does Kanan’s return mean the show has decided to undo AJ’s death?
In an interview with TV Guide‘s Michael Logan, Kanan says, “‘GH’ is one of those places I never thought I’d see again and that makes what’s happened even more exciting. My life has changed completely since those days. I’m newly married and have a baby on the way. I also have an 11-year-old daughter and four stepchildren. I’m not the guy I used to be.” It was announced last week that Kanan and his new bride Michele were expecting their first child together.
Earlier this week Kanan returned to “B&B” for a short stint as Deacon prepares to close out another chapter of his life. When he returns to “GH” expect to see Kanan for the long haul. “Frank [Valentini, Executive Producer] also put his money where his mouth is and gave me a contract,” says Kanan. “These days, in this environment and this economy, there are not a lot of soap contracts being handed out. So, needless to say, I’m extremely happy. I can’t wait to see what the writers come up with!”
Kanan is scheduled to mark his return to the ABC drama series on Monday, October 29. One week earlier (Monday, October 22), former co-star and on screen brother Steve Burton, who has portrayed Jason Morgan on the soap for more than 20 years, will end his run as he and his family move to Tennessee.
ABC has not commented on whether Kanan is returning as AJ, a new character or quite possibly a recast Jason Quartermaine.
Shortly after Soap Opera Network reported on Friday, August 24 that Sean Kanan was headed back to CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” as Deacon Sharpe, the actor himself tweeted “I never said I’m coming back guys. Let’s not stoke the fire of the rumor mill.” While the tweet seemed to contradict our reporting, Soap Opera Network has re-confirmed with the show and Kanan’s management team who assure us that “Yes…he is coming back.” So what happened? It looks like Kanan was not aware that the show was confirming his return to the press, which resulted in some confusion.
As previously reported, a first airdate for Kanan has not been set, but the actor is scheduled to appear on the drama series once more sometime in September. He is currently only scheduled to appear in a couple of episodes, however.
UPDATE, 2:54 PM ET: Sources tell Soap Opera Network that Kanan is currently only scheduled to appear for a couple of episodes.
PREVIOUS, 1:55 PM ET: Soap Opera Network can confirm that CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” is about to get a little more Sharpe, Deacon Sharpe that is.
While a first airdate has not been revealed, a “B&B” rep tells Soap Opera Network that fans can expect to see Sean Kanan, who portrays Deacon, back onscreen sometime in September.
In July, Kanan married long time girlfriend Michele Vega in Italy in front of what we’re told included family and a few close friends. “They were married in Monte di Procida, Naples, Italy. The ceremony and reception dinner took place at the hotel where they stayed called Al Chiar di Luna which is owned by good friends of Sean and Michele, The Mazzella Family,” Kanan’s rep told Soap Opera Network earlier this month.
Kanan returned to “B&B” earlier this year for the first time in seven years. The character had previously been seen on “The Young and the Restless” off-and-on since 2009.
