DAYS continues to hold steady, just hope the new writing regime brings back viewers!

  • robert

these are dreadful numbers for the cbs soaps and i’m not surprised. B&B has turned into trash. Y&R is so boring,it is sweeps, yet there is nothing happening the pacing is terrible and vets are being backburned for newbies we don’t care about. Sharon is getting no airtime. Sally was not the right choice to write Y&R

    • Salem Spectator

They are going to have to use her scissors to budget cut!

      • robert

plummeting ratings during sweeps could spell trouble

        • Salem Spectator

          How long is Sally’s contract?

    • Lana

Sweeps hasn’t been a thing for years. The only place sweeps is mentioned now is on soap sites

      • sherwood

You obviously know nothing about TV advertising & how rates are set by ratings. Sweeps are mentioned everywhere & are very important.

        • Elizabeth_Erwin

From the perspective of the networks I wonder if they don’t want sweeps to create misleading deals for advertisers ? In case they have to refund or promise additional advertising time if the numbers are too low relative to the sweeps indications….

      • Ann Marie Blon

Nathan Varni even said sweeps don’t mean anything to ABC anymore.

      • Soraya Montenegro

Sweeps are still important don’t let the naysayers tell you different. This is the time of year along with November sweeps where you get big demo gains. Without these demos – productions struggle paying for sets, paying the performers and lighting etc. Why you think Days looks like crap half the time (from their sets and poor lighting) and performers come in/out of the show every 6 months because they are trying to hold onto every drop of money they can there. YR even has been shelving their vets and replacing them with newbies lately. So yes May Sweeps is important. The networks are just lying because they want the remaining soaps to finally be canceled to replace them with talk shows, court shows, news shows and game shows.

  • Salem Spectator

I’m happy to see DOOL up in every category!

    • vivien

wasn’t yesterday’s episode great?! More like “DAYS” of old with the mysterious amulet, Chad & Andre’s hijinks, and especially, Eric & Nicole! DAYS has a goldmine in those two and I have no idea why they haven’t capitalized on it. Loved everything about their scenes – the angst, the look on his face when he held Holly (hopefully because she’s really HIS!), the way he came crashing through the door to rescue her .. THIS is what we want. Hopefully Ron’s paying attention.

  • Salem Spectator

When DOOL was getting higher 18-49 numbers than what Y&R is receiving now there was so much flap about budget cuts. Don’t focus on the rankings, focus on the numbers. We’re all going under.

  • sherwood

Those CBS soaps are sucking wind big time. Y&R’s free-fall is bringing B&B down with it. They are both in horrible spots and the writing for both shows are sadly driving viewers away. The Spectra stuff on B&B is ridiculous. There is not one storyline or couple worth watching on Y&R. Mal Young is a bust and Sally Sussman is not connecting. Bradley Bell has lost it. CBS must be besides themselves. This is May sweeps for cryin’ out loud!

    • FoxyRoxyy

Mal and Sally have been a disaster. It’s time for them to go.

    • Michelle

B&B should have been canceled a long time ago. The writing is downright awful. Bringing back Spectra was the worst decision they could have come up with. Nobody wants to see them and Bell doesn’t know how to write them. The Spectras are on all week. What the h*’ll? Next week’s ratings will probably be worse. I don’t see how they have money to do these location trips. They have one coming up and just had one a few months ago that I read cost a million dollars.

  • Karen

So folks didnt tune into Emmy winning GH? They weren’t in the mood for that best writing orto catch a glance of fan fave Lexi Ainsworth?

    • monzo

And Scott Clifton making history by winning Emmys in three different categories didn’t help B&B either.

  • Salem Spectator

And still no word on renewals for the CBS soaps.

DOOL airs to at least September of 2018!
DOOL hired former GH scribe Ron Carlivati who’s work hits the airwaves in July!
    Sami and Will are back!
Twists and turns aplenty, I’m sure!

    • monzo

Normally, I tend not to worry about CBS soaps that much, because they are the two most successful daytime dramas, but every year these upfronts remind me that CBS is different than any other network. ABC and NBC renew primetime shows with low ratings even in key demos and that might be a reason why GH and DOOL are still around, while CBS cancels anyhing that doesn’t earn enough money anymore, even if it’s a veteran show not having a real series finale. Maybe Y&R and B&B are becoming troublemakers for CBS soon, too, and have to go.

  • JONNYSBRO

Omg lol down 745,000 from JFP and Pratt lol. Should they both be rehired?

    • FoxyRoxyy

Sally and Mal have been a huge disaster for Y&R.

      • robert

their so boring. the production value has decreased and the writing is not up to par

    • Soraya Montenegro

Pratt and JFP are somewhere tongue kissing their Emmys about now while drinking bubbly.

    • jonboy

      No, no, no!!!

  • Andrew Hass

I think it was a good week for Days in that they went up in total viewers and in all 3 demos from previous week.

    • Soraya Montenegro

Just 2 and half months, buddy, before Ron and Sheri saves it from its death.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Well Sally and Mal are tanking Y&R. It is soooooo boring. Another sweeps period and another new low. They just are not working out and it is time for CBS and Sony to make changes. Look at those devastating year over year losses. CBS should be embarrassed for allowing such boring material to hit the airwaves. Looks like all the scenes will have to be taped in front of the CBS dumpster. That’s all they’ll be able to afford.

    • TruthSquad

Good morning. I really think the writing is just fine and it comes down to the production values. They overreach with the outdoor scenes that you mention and the writing doesn’t seem to match the music and some of the sets are goofy and cheap. Y&R used to be a production showcase and if nothing else, visually appealing. The edting used to have one story segway to the next instead of chopping from scene to scene and story to story. We may disagree but I think Mal should go and Sally should be paired with someone like Ed Scott or even Pratt or Phelps.

      • FoxyRoxyy

To me, it starts with the writing and it is just so boring to me. Way too many new characters and none of them are interesting. I can’t even name most of them because I just don’t care about them enough to learn what their character name is. And I get the feeling that the numbers haven’t even hit bottom yet. This isn’t good for the genre or Y&R. The demo numbers are lower than all those other soaps that got cancelled.

        • robert

with summer coming the ratings could go lower, the summer is when less people watch tv

        • TruthSquad

I agree that something has to change. It is bad for the genre. It seems if soaps are lucky enough to make it to 40 or 50 they all end up with some serious baggage. I think Mal is terrrible. The goal I suppose was to make the show cheaper without looking cheap.

          • FoxyRoxyy

Mal REALLY needs to go. Like today.

          • TruthSquad

Indeed. I think he is about to. Sadly I think Sally will also and who knows who we will end up with. If you think about it, the ratings went down during Pratt’s reign but when Mal became co-EP. I’m telling you, a Sally-Phelps or Sally-Pratt combo could be the best bet. IMO – of course. 🙂

          • padange

I doubt Sally could work with Pratt or Phelps. The visions are too different. A lot of people who were on the writing team with Pratt and/or Phelps have left too – Tracey Thomson, Brent Boyd, Kate Hall and probably more.

      • robert

Phelps production values was much better than Mal’s. every scene is so choppy

        • TruthSquad

I agree. The choppyness reminds me of the last days of ATWT or GL. If you’re a bell soap and resemble a P&G soap you know you are in trouble. I think it is the editing and producing. The writing could be excellent but bad editing and pro values will prevent the writng from breaking through.

  • TruthSquad

Yikes. Y&R can use some immediate attention. I would have to guess that if these numbers continue to drop for Y&R this month that Mal Young will be gone.

    • padange

I actually think the writing matters the most. Production values are not good enough because their ratings are low and they have to cut the budget for sets etc. And their ratings are low because the stories (or more exactly non-stories) aren’t working. I like that some of the scenes have real depth but they are jumping from one idea to another and it isn’t working.

      • TruthSquad

I agree. I think some of the writing is good but it is hard for that to come through with all of the choppy scene to scene and not just scene to scene jumping but story to story jumping. I think that falls under the editing. I alos think that Young and Sussman are a terrible mismatch. He seems to like the outdoor stuff becuase that starting appearing while he was paired with Pratt. I think the background music is awful too. The writing is the one thing I do like but it is overshadowed by budget constraints. As another poster said, Sally may have arrived too late to be able to realize her vision.

        • jonboy

Agree COMPLETELY about the editing. Just when a scene builds in emotion it cuts away to something else. I’m like, wait, I was just starting to feel that. Now Im not!

          • TruthSquad

I think the writing doesnt match the directing, editing and producing. Y&R used to segway from scene to scene and now they jump around. I thought this last week was good.

    • Brandon

💯🙌🏿 He has history with the show, and it’s been reported that he and Bill Bell didn’t play Y&R looking bad

      • TruthSquad

B&B still has great pro-values. I think Ed Scott would be perfect for both shows. If he would do it.

  • Pete Ra

While I have been enjoying Y&R the last few months, these ratings have to have CBS higher ups concerned.

  • Eileen

Wow, GH went down consistently 5 days in a row. People just aren’t watching soaps much in any age group. Demos in all soaps went down.

    • Soraya Montenegro

Frank just needs to give up with his current head writers. He better fire them or ABC might start the process again measuring their studio for a new afternoon talk show.

  • Hedda Lettuce

Random Y & R thoughts – The writing is boring as hell. The new characters Scott, Tessa, Juliet and especially Jordan are bringing nothing to the show. Cane is so dull he puts me to sleep. Hilary still has feelings for Devon – boring. Nick and Chelsea have no chemistry. Abby as a CEO is laughable, she looks and acts like a teenager. No wonder the show is almost under 4 million viewers.

    • TruthSquad

I think the writing is good in the sense that the dialogue is well written and the history is all there. I think the problem is the editing, the production values and the music. The stories chop from one to another and the background music doesn’t match what is going on. I am not a Scott fan or a Jordan fan. The best thing they could do is have all of the new characters as villians of some sort in the spirti of Megie (Shawn Young). I do agree that the finished product is off.

      • Brandon

Y&R and B&B used to have the best background music

    • Salem Spectator

The tide seems to have turned. Many viewers screamed for Sally to return and now many are screaming for her to leave. Dena Higley is available.Tomlin and Whitesell may be available, but according to some, Y&R don’t want anything to do with anything or anyone gay. Y&R let an actor go for suggesting his character should have a coming out storyline.

      • zombiedrama

        Another resurrection… getting old…

    • robert

perfectly sums it up. add backburning vets to the issues with the show

      • Pete Ra

Outside of Paul, the vets are getting plenty of air time lately.

        • robert

          not Sharon

    • Soraya Montenegro

When Days and GH was bringing on all the new characters for the last 2 yrs it damn near hurt their ratings along with the writing. With bringing in new characters in any soap it has to be a slow progressions. Bringing on 50 newbies might be cost effective but the audience will be left with the “Who is this person? Why should we care about them? Why are they taking screen time from vets?”

    • Martin

disagree with your comment about Cane… Cane would be the most intriguing and entertaining character if he was written properly and true to his character but sadly none of the writers the past 8-9 years were able to do that. So I suggest get rid of Mal and Sally and hire great writers who can keep the balance (between all characters) and who know how keep viewers on the edge of their seats!

  • Salem Spectator

Are the CBS soap on the verge of cancellation? They may refuse to conform to a new budget. DOOL (NBC) made necessary changes close to 10 years ago to be able to survive. I’m sure Y&R and B&B are long overdue for big budget changes.

Word is Julie Chen and her husband are upset with their pet project (The Talk) having to support dead weight.

    • FoxyRoxyy

I can see Julie and Les plotting to give Julie her own show as a replacement for Y&R. It would be cheaper to produce than Y&R and Jules can have her own show.

  • Salem Spectator

Y&R down 745,000 from last year. Sally’s scissor hands are so sharp they created profuse bleeding! Who Murdered Victor may be just the storyline to stop the bleeding.

    • robert

that’s a lot of viewers gone. Sally’s boring writing is driving the show into the ground

    • Soraya Montenegro

YR has never been much of a whodunit kind of show like a Days or BB. I don’t know what the ratings were like when one of those Logans shot Stephanie but at this point it could help YR. I’m just out of the loop what can help this show. I’ve liked it for the most part but like someone said in the comments the type of writing Sally is doing isn’t appealing to the current audience. Look at Wednesday 2.92. Insane. Wonder what happened that day to cause people to tune out.

  • Carmel Smith

Overall YR is just simply not good.

    • robert

it’s so boring. the same 4 to 5 people on everyday, while everyone else gets nothing

      • Soraya Montenegro

        Yep. Hilary/Mariah/Devon/Philly/Villy show.

        • Carmel Smith

Philly? They are a couple but rarely share scenes. It’s the Villy show.

          • Soraya Montenegro

I’m going by what I see in triangles and who’s getting the most air time as of late and it’s definitely these 6 individuals.

      • Carmel Smith

I agree. No balance. This writer loves Victoria and Billy.

  • Keanna

Some of you, Y&R fans complaining about the show, some of us GH fans will love to be your soap right now.

GH’s ratings went down each day last week, so much for that Emmy boost.

Days, glad it’s staying steady, since Ron’s writing is starting soon, AS and CM coming back things are looking up.

  • SoapArmageddon

What in the name of Katherine Shepherd Reynolds Chancellor Thurston Sterling is happening to Y&R’s numbers?

Women viewers seem to be have decided that Y&R is no longer the show for them.

    • robert

females are leaving Y&R in droves. look at how bad their demos are. the median age has to be 70. this type of writing is not appealing to young women. i would not be surprised if Y&R decides in the future to bring in writers that do stunt driven stories, that’s when their ratings have been the highest in recent years

  • TV&MovieBuff

I figure we will be looking at another Phelps/Pratt type combo coming back to Y&R soon. I am sure the powers that be will think that the big surge ratings that come with the stunt stories is better than what they are getting now. Little do they know that it is that type of writing instituted by Brian Frons at ABC that killed AMC and OLTL and set up GH for the big ratings fall that led it to where it is today. Needless to say the collapse of ABC daytime. Now it has led to the collapse of CBS daytime drama simply because someone thought they needed to be more like ABC. Did they not see that becoming more like ABC is what killed the shows at NBC and the Proctor & Gamble shows. I don’t think Sally was the wrong choice for Y&R. I think she was just the wrong choice at the wrong time. She came too late in the ball game. If she had come close to when Y&R fans were still enjoying the character driven stories and before characters were so destroyed by Griffith, Latham, Pratt, MAB, Passanante, Altman, etc., I think the show could have continued to grow. But so much has changed and so many of the fans who enjoyed that type of writing have moved on and just don’t care enough at this point to come back anymore.

Sad to see the state of daytime. Just hope we can survive the summer and go into the fall and winter with some respectable ratings.

    • TruthSquad

Well put. Too late and too much damage has been done. Now there is no budget and Y&R is starting to resemble ATWT or GL in the last days.

      • Soraya Montenegro

Oh no, lol, it’s not about to go shaking camera angles are they.

        • Brandon

          Y&R isn’t in that shape

          • Soraya Montenegro

            I was kidding, bye

    • jonboy

Whatever became of Jill’s son Phillip? I stopped watching during the MAB era.

      • TV&MovieBuff

Jonboy, I can’t remember for sure where he is right now. All that I can remember for sure is that his air time just really slacked off big time. And then he was just gone and seemed to be forgotten for the most part. He didn’t even come back for Katherine’s funeral the best I can remember now. I think it was just mentioned he was somewhere and couldn’t make it.

        • jonboy

Firstly, they should recast the role and then return the character to the mix, as they did with Scott. There is a lot of family connection there.

  • Stephen Dark fox

Why are people talking about an Emmy boosts for any of these show when the Daytime Emmys doesn’t have a Network for the show itself to be watched? While this is a bigger purge in ratings for the summer than usual, it happens. GH & Days have stayed pretty much consistent from last year while Y&R and B&B took huge drops and I blame that on the rehash writing.

    • monzo

For the last few years B&B benefited the most of the other cancelled soaps in my opinion. Viewers who missed one of their beloved soaps turned to B&B because of the four remaining soaps it’s the easiest one to get into the storylines. Well, now those new viewers realize that B&B is just about repeating triangles and they are turning off: I doubt that B&B will ever recover, now it’s just about keeping their current viewers.

  • Derrick

Oh HELL CBS…………………………………You just can’t please a lot of people these days. Not good ratings for these two!

    • Soraya Montenegro

True. I have recognized soap fans are tough viewing critics. After about 25yrs of watching soaps I never thought it could get this ugly for soaps. Yet when soap executives have settled abandoning character development, history of their shows, and using recycled writing teams – soap fans over time begin to start waking up. Now these show are so much at the misery of their networks due to their terrible ratings there is not much fans can do but either: watch through the garbage or simply cut off for good. And once soap fans leave these days they never come back.

  • Soraya Montenegro

SURPRISE! Finally GH 18-49 would take a hit. Having 18-34 be in 17 week lows, it catches up to you.

Y&R I can tell you all right now they need to catch out the triangles. Settle on some couples finally and get Hillary to have a spine back. I don’t think Hillary fans want to see being made a fool of at all and I can’t blame them in the least.

BB it speaks for itself. Bradley is having the same issues as Days and GH in an anniversary – can’t write his way out of a paperbag! Maybe when Brill gets married next week we’ll see some improved numbers but will they keep it, I doubt it. Bradley has to learn to rotate to his cast more instead of keeping everything about the Spencers and Steffy.

    • Michelle

The only thing that can help B&B, is for Brad Bell to step down as head writer. He has ran this show into the ground. Brill won’t help either because viewers are tired of Brooke bouncing back between Ridge and Bill like a tennis ball. Everyone knows that the marriage won’t last. Bill is too controlling.

      • Soraya Montenegro

That triangle is tiresome! My god, Brooke needs to settle and stop it. But where I do disagree just a little when Brill reconnected a few weeks back the show gained 162k back. So evidently there is something. But I agree to an extent that if Brad keeps this ratings nosedive up, CBS might be making some calls or a visit to his office soon. He and Michael Minnis better get it together.

        • Michelle

Was that 162k total or 18-49? Because advertisers only care about 18-49. Brad Bell probably has already had a meeting. I see cancellation in there future. I would be surprised if B&B make it through 2018.

          • Soraya Montenegro

That was 162k in households yet it did nothing to improve the demos for that week.

          • Tammy Bostick

i can’t stand brill bill was his best with katie and heather tom can act sick of brooke!!!

          • Soraya Montenegro

Take it up with Bradley and the Brill fans. They can’t get enough of them. LOL

    • Brandon

And yet everyone thought that Ron C was the worst writer of all time

      • Soraya Montenegro

I’m fine with Ron with some exceptions as a HW. But we all know behind the scenes drama cost Ron his gig at GH from certain actors.

        • Brandon

True. But Jean and Shelly r worse than Ron’s last year on GH

          • Soraya Montenegro

Yes. They were awful and boring on YR so no surprise

  • Kelly

Not worth my time anymore. I watched soaps with my grandmother. I watched for love in the afternoon. Those days are long gone. When GL was going off the air Grant Alesander said on 60 Minutes that soap opera fans will forgive almost anything EXCEPT writing a character out of character. Nothing I see is remotely character driven storylines anymore.

DOOL killed off most of the characters that breathed life into the show all to give Corday pets a reason to chew up screen time. JFP trashed YR and they let her get away with it for so long. She too butchered characters and trashed the history of the show all for the sake of giving her faves a place to survive. Now they bring on this new team and instead of repairing the damage they and their own brand scorched earth policy to give their faves a reason to exist. Nobody is in character on that show. Nobody and history? Forget that. Ain’t nobody got time for that. GH has committed ever sort of sin that gets a show cancelled. It’s not like they didn’t know what would happen when Jelly was hired. All they had to do is look at what they did during their tenure at YR. Nuff said. They took a hacksaw to the characters, couples and history. And once again the show is chewed up showcasing the pets day in and day out.

Elmore Leonard said you let the characters tell the story. Writing 101 basics. Marland had soap opera writing rules. Those rules apply today and they all need to get back to the basics.

    • Tammy Bostick

well said corday killed the show along with that hack writer higley who destroyed many other soaps !! i stopped watching after 33 years i watched bc of my sweet grandmother who really made donuts !! I was a Bo fan always and peter might bring me back but the destruction of families and Characters like hope i can’t see me watching again. my dad had my old tapes out on dvd and i’ll stick with the 80s the best of days !!!!

      • Moore45

I hope you come back when Ron is writing. I hear he is a good writer and read he has many thing in store for Days. Its your loss if you do not start watching again. Sami and Will are returning.

  • monzo

At Y&R Dina Mergeron returned and no one cared. I think the only returning character who would bring in viewers is Sheila Carter (played by Kimberlin Brown,of course).

    • TruthSquad

I enjoyed seeing Dina. I wish they had used her more. I agree a Shelia return with Kimberlin Brown is in order and I have read places (Soap She Knows, UNCONFIRMED) that Adam is being recast for the Fall.

      • Michael Taylor

Could you send me the link to this?

        • TruthSquad

Go to soap hub for the latest article on the subject -jason-gerhardt of GH is the rumored actor. This site doesn’t allow links. (soaphubdotcom).

          • Kevin Little

Kimberlin Brown recently admitted that she doesn’t have many friends in Hollywood anymore (and that includes the folks that produce Y&R) since she came out as a Trump supporter.

She spoke at the RNC about the xenophobic, misogynist racist Trump.

          • TruthSquad

Yikes. She should stay away as far as I am concerned in that case. Yuck.

          • jonboy

An actors political affiliation in a free country is reason not to watch their performance? Really?

          • TruthSquad

            I agree. Retracted.

  • FoxyRoxyy

CBS doesn’t seem to care about Y&R or B&B. Yesterday, B&B was pre-empted on the east coast so CBS decided to show a repeat in the other time zones and push Fridays episode to Monday. B&B’s own publicist tweeted out that B&B was preempted and todays show will air tomorrow. Even their own publicist is so detached that she was clueless that the show doesn’t air on Saturdays. Perfect example of how little they care these days.

    • TruthSquad

They seemed to have taken a different direction in the last year towards their daytime lineup. They have as many press releases as GH (few to none).

      • FoxyRoxyy

It just took me by surprise that the show’s publicist, whose job it is to publicize the show, doesn’t know that it doesn’t air on Saturday. As for press releases, what do they have to brag about? “Look at our flagship show – Y&R. We are at our lowest demos ever and have lost 745,000 viewers in a year”. Hooray for us! lol

        • TruthSquad

Lol. They can’t very well do that.

          • Michael Taylor

So what will the 2017-2018 CBS Daytime lineup look like?

          • TruthSquad

Hoping for renewals. Not as sure about it as I was before this sweeps period. Hopefully Y&R and B&B go up the next few weeks. Even though it would be less expensive to produce talk shows it would be a huge gamble. Demos aside, any talk show will max out at 3M total viewers. If they are lucky.

          • Michael Taylor

So what’s going to become of Sally Sussman now?

          • FoxyRoxyy

            Hopefully the unemployment line.

          • robert

            we can all wish

          • robert

her walking papers. she has been a failure since coming back

          • Michelle

Hopefully without B&B. That show is pure garbage.

          • JayTN

            Exactly as it does now.

  • lookitsMegRyan

C’mon now soaps are up against the biggest reality soap of all time it’s called The donald trump presidency.

  • Suzy

I’m laughing at people saying good for Days to go up with ratings and celebrating they are holding up. Days is the last place soap and have a long way to go to reach the ratings for the other soaps. They are near under 2 million!!! They are tying lows in important demo groups. NBC can’t be happy. That’s why they try to excite fans by spilling about who’s coming back. Days does it every time they fight for the soap to be renewed. It’s a big game they play every year.

  • Carmel Smith

Someone should tell the writers at BB that Brooke is in her fifties because they act like she is 21. I don’t even bother to watch anymore.

    • Michelle

      I know, it’s ridiculous.

    • TruthSquad

She still looks great but it is silly at this point.

      • Carmel Smith

She looks good for her age, that’s not the point. They are writing as if it is 1992 and she is every man’s dream woman. That is unrealistic. The character has shown no growth. Brooke used to be my favorite but I can’t stand her now.

        • TruthSquad

When she slept with Deacon while he was married to Bridgette she jumped the shark a bit. She was never the same after. IMO.

    • ctshar

The Ridge/Brook/Bill nonsense definitely got me to delete a bunch of BB on my DVR. Completely boring, no chemistry and no story telling.

  • Nick

To me, it’s gotten to the point where if you want daytime drama that’s more interesting than watching paint dry, you’re better off going to YouTube to view old clips/episodes of Y&R, GH, Days, etc from the ’80s and early ’90s. That’s what I’ve been doing lately. That stuff must have been from a different lifetime. It’s jarring to see how much better the production values and quality of storytelling were way back then compared to today. It’s not even close. Sad, but true.

    • TruthSquad

Watching old clips really does make it hard to watch the current stuff. Y&R used to be a showcase of glamour and good storytelling.

    • ctshar

I like the production values at GH but the lack of romance, rootable character stories and fun entertainment is dismal. I’d take 2014 GH which was fun and exciting. Y&R is good just far too SLOW for me. Y&R is clogging up my DVR right now, GH is off my DVR until TPTB change. Sonny hospital is awful stuff.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Julie Chen “guesting” on Y&R is a tryout for the timeslot. Expect the Julie show to replace Y&R.

    • jonboy

Do you work for the network since you seem to have the inside scoop?

  • Lampshade

Not really surprised by these ratings-writing on all four soaps has been lacklustre. I’ve really tried to enjoy Sally’s writing on YR, but the story-telling just meanders along, there is no building tension or classic soap moments- where’s the ‘yearning’ and tension we were promised? We’ve went from one extreme of constant disaster themes to coffee in the Sports club. BB needs to ditch the Spectra’s- it’s rehashed and older viewers like me remember the better version. I know Brooke is the leading lady, but Jeez that women had more men than I’ve had hot dinners. We need more Avant air-time. Less said about Days the better- a disconnected, scattered mess, roll on Carlivati.

    • FoxyRoxyy

Sally is a boring writer. Y&R knew that going in. She had never had a successful stint as a soap headwriter. The ratings will drop even lower.

  • daisey56

Days of Our Lives executive producer Ken Corday is slated to
receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, May 15, 2017. Congratulations!

    • DaysFanAlwys

I watched the ceremony on line. It was wonderful. DOOL has won two Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding
drama series since Corday became executive producer, most recently in
2015. He deserves this honor especially because we do not know how long Days will be around. Thank you Corday!

    • JayTN

I don’t put a lot of emphasis on Hollywood Walk of Fame stars. I believe anyone with enough money can buy/get one. That kind of takes some of the acclaim out of the “honor”.

  • Dianne

BB – The imposter Spectra’s alone are not the major reason for the low women demos. Women viewers wouldn’t tune out because of them. They would tune out because the actress who plays Caroline no longer has a full-time job because Bell gave her character a baby. They would tune out because there cannot be one adult couple that Brooke doesn’t interfere with. I know for a fact on other message boards female viewers mentioned they would be done if Brooke and Bill became an item.

    • Michelle

The reason people are tuning out, is all around awful writing. It’s everything, all the storylines, none of them make any sense. Bell’s writing is the absolute worst on daytime tv. There is no conistency in his writing. He stops storylines, literally overnight. It’s ridiculous.

  • soaprealityfan

Days is now regularly dipping below 1.5 in the daily ratings. 1.54 average in households, near record low in all the demos. These weak stories they keep putting on the air are not bringing in viewers. The whole gang is going to “Greece”, which consists of slightly redone set pieces with an excess of plastic flowers. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought Helena back from the dead, somehow thinking it would raise the ratings!

    • cab

Yet they are the only soap to go up in every demo this week, what are the other soaps doing?

      • Suzy

Other soaps could lose hundred thousands or millions more fans and they still have more fans watching their shows than Days. Days didn’t go up a lot to brag about. If they go up 6 thousand or 8 thousand some people think they deserve a trophy. They are the worst soap and have the least fans than any other soap.

      • soaprealityfan

Are you kidding me? In the Women 18-34 category they went “up” by 4,000 viewers. What you are leaving out is that the previous week they only registered 65,000 total viewers for that demo, a record low. Think of it – in the entire USA less than 70,000 women aged 18-34 watch this soap! That’s about 1,000 per STATE!

  • cab

Bringing Will back from the dead is going to have to be a good one. I know there are all kinds of ways that the writers could explain this, but it better be a good one. I would rather he be a new character than Will. Or could the last 2 years be a dream? That would mean other characters are still alive which would make things even more complicated.
There are 2 characters on Days that seem to ad lib their lines superbly. Victor, for instance seems to come up with better writing then that writers can for his character, he is Victor(John Aniston). The other character is Anne, wow what a great actress and seems to add life to her lines. These two are great to watch, Victor with his quirky comments and Anne with her vivid attributes to her character. John should have won a daytime emmy. His slight over the top side comments for his lines are natural and realistic for his character. Great job done for these 2.

    • rurta

I read that Brady is getting a heart transplant again in less than a year. Morgan Fairchild (age 67) will be on Days. I doubt the younger audience would tune in to watch transplants or another older actress. The makers of Depend might like these storylines.

    • adeti

I think that Will is only returning in ghost or dream form or as someone’s fantasy.

      • Pete Ra

I just don’t think they’d waste press for a brief return like that. Especially since he won’t air until what, November?

        • SoapArmageddon

          September.

        • natasha

They wasted press for Stefano’s return which ended up being him sitting down and saying nothing for a day only to later find out it was not him.

    • reece58

I thought they said they were going to bring back Bo and Jack.

    • yumur

Glad to hear Chandler is back. I loved
him as Will and the magical chemistry between Freddie and he was
difficult to replicate. That said, Guy is a class act, congratulating
Chandler on Twitter even though it must hurt that they decided to
approach Chandler to reprise the role rather than him.

    • hixx

Glad to see he’s coming back. I hope he
does some stretches and Yoga…I mean he might be a little stiff from
      being dead all this time.

  • ctshar

    Dear GH TPTB:

Your GH fans 49 and younger hate the Sonny show AND bad, violent sexist story lines SO MUCH they stop watching. You’re losing viewers DURING SWEEPS.

Also, Frank doesn’t know may are sweeps either, you need to let him know!
IF you interrupt GH for daily Trump press briefings, if we watch live, we’re turning to cable news OR going to delete from DVR. Daytime viewers are NOT idiots.

    Please stop!

    See Ratings.

    • jonboy

Stopped watching about a year ago when it got all mob oriented again.

      • ctshar

I’ve been watching bits an pieces for months now, but I’m done until the regime changes.

      • GH has the best actors on TV. A hospital and the Quartermanes (rich vs poor) is more than enough for traditional drama.
Make Liz Webber the Meridith Grey of daytime; either take Sonny legit or eliminate his character.
Make Nina and a reformed Eva as well as Liz and Sam the key female players. Franco, Ned, Jason, Michael plus a NuLucky are your men.
Poach OLTL and AMC for valuable and popular characters.

  • TV&MovieBuff

I love Morgan Fairchild and glad she is getting work but even my love for her can’t make me come back to Days. I’m glad Days got some mainstream press out of it in EW but I just wonder how much they had to pay extra to get her to return to daytime. If she weren’t coming before Ron C. got there I would say this was another dream of his. I just wonder if he will bring her back after he gets there. He loves the 80s prime-time soap queens.

I think even with her the writing is going to be key. Some viewers might tune it to the curiosity of seeing her the first few days but if there isn’t an intriguing story there they won’t stay. I’m not sure why these modern day writers and producers can’t see that people want more than just surprise and shock — they want substance. In the old days we got celebrities like Sammy Davis, Jr., Elizabeth Taylor, Kim Hunter from old Hollywood movies and TV but it wasn’t about the celebrity — it was about their character and the part they filled on the show.

    • JayTN

I’m skeptical of how much cache Morgan Fairchild has. She was the star of ABC’s “Loving” successor “The City” and her presence wasn’t enough to lift that soap out of last place in the ratings. History will likely repeat itself with Fairchild and “Days”.

    • jonboy

Its not exactly like Hollywood is knocking on her door much anymore.

    • SoapArmageddon

I assume the strategy here is to try and win back viewers who are familiar with the character and have quit watching Days. If so, it would have been a smarter move to get Jane Elliot to reprise the role. That would have put them in play for some GH viewers as well. Unfortunately, her retirement announcement probably came too late.

    • Vuitton

I think Morgan Fairchild’s appearance will have no significant increase in ratings. But then again I do not know how much of a following she has. I also did not recognize her with all those facial injections. Soaps usually require so many facial expressions which I think she obviously cant make. I guess they want to increase household numbers by trying to get the senior citizens watching again.

      • TV&MovieBuff

I hate what the older actresses are doing to their faces with all the plastic surgery and botox. It is so sad to see the state they get in when they can’t even show the least bit of emotion in their faces anymore. What is even sadder is the fact that Hollywood has created such a culture that they feel they have to do this in order to get to work. America is all about youth. I don’t how many times I see on here posted that no one wants to see someone in their 60s having sex or in a love story etc. It is so sad.

        • vilti

Its interesting that you can at least see many of the men of daytime age gracefully. I think Steve and John on Days are in their sixties and look as handsome as they did 30 years ago. Same goes for Doug and Victor who are much older and as handsome as ever without appearing to be injected. I can not name a female actress on Days 60 plus that doesnt look like plastic. Marlena had a twin on the show (which was her real twin sister in life) and now they look nothing alike because i noticed she too looks so frozen.

  • Michael Taylor

    I WANT THE RATINGS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • beatty

I think because of all the preemption’s with everything that has been happening under this administration they are taking a lot longer to post. I am sure they are trying to post them as fair and as accurate as possible.

      • Richie

Please, lets try not to blame President Trump for this too. Anyway, here in the east, I do not remember any interruptions, national or local during the week in question.

        • ilker

Well, I am also on the east coast and I do recall that last week Days was preempted when they showed the Turkish presidents speech (a very long one) when he met with our president during a press conference. I am not quite sure why they choose to air that and also Days was preempted on the day of the horrible accident at Time Square.

        • lizz45

Even if things are not preempted during soaps a lot of people are tuning into all the news channels to catch up on the reality based political drama.

      • Happy Accidents

I agree – I think the soaps could have had an extra-bad week because of pre-emptions, and Nielson could be taking time to come up with figures that are “fair” to the soaps. LOL! Considering it’s May sweeps the ratings directly translate into money (or more likely, lack of!). It would be fun to see the raw results, but I suspect we will get “boosted” results this week. It’ll be worth checking whether the dailies and totals add up when we get them.

This is a perfect storm for the soaps – sub-par writing (at least at some of the soaps – I’m not judging, I really only follow one, but just from what people say here) plus the real life Trump soap opera to compete with and pre-empt them.

I just hope Mr. Toups is well, that’s all.
