After appearing on CBS’ “” for the past couple of years in a somewhat recurring capacity, actress has signed a contract with the Sony Pictures Television produced soap, which guarantees fans will be seeing a lot more of Ashley Abbott on a more consistent basis.

“They has [sic] been reaching out for quite a while and wondering what I wanted, so the deal we made suits my life very well,” Davidson told Soap Opera Digest of her signing on. “I’m really happy. I’ve put in a lot of years in this medium, which I don’t take for granted, so I’m very grateful.”

Per the publication, Davidson will begin appearing as a contract player on “Y&R” starting in early September, while simultaneously appearing on the Sony Pictures Television produced “” as Kristen DiMera, the role in which she is currently Daytime Emmy Award nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Davidson got her start in daytime playing Ashley Abbott in 1982. She portrayed the character until 1988. She went on to appear on NBC’s “Santa Barbara” from 1991 to 1993. She subsequently joined the “DAYS” cast in 1993 and remained with the soap until 1998. She would later return to “Y&R” in 1999 and portray Ashley Abbott on the soap along with its sister series, “The Bold and the Beautiful,” over the 15 years that followed. Davidson returned to “DAYS” for a year-long stint from 2012-2013.

    LOL. That’s is all. ;-)

  • TV&MovieBuff

Great news. I hope they have a good story for her. And I hope Sony doesn’t step in and send her back to Days again. That was a big mistake.

    • fanny

If it was such a big mistake, how did she get nominated for an emmy this year, for her role as Kristen DiMera on DAYS??? I hope she wins. At least DAYS wrote for her and used her talent while Y&R barely did, in the last decade. Let’s hope it will be different this time.
I absolutely love the beautiful, talented Eileen Davidson and ANY soap is lucky to have her.

      • sands of time

I think a lot of Y&R fans do not care if she’s used or not on Y&R, as long as DAYS can’t show how to write for her. But DAYS will be victorious!!!

      • TV&MovieBuff

You love Days and I love Y&R. I am a fan of my show and of Ashley just as much as you are. And sorry I won’t feel guilty for wanting Eileen Davidson on my show where she belongs as Ashley. Ashley is part of a main family on Y&R and Y&R needs her. I appreciate Days fans want her too, but so do Y&R fans and I don’t feel guilty about that.

        • fanny

Actually, I love both shows (Days & Y&R) and I’ve been a fan of Eileen’s work since her beginning on Y&R. But back then her character of Ashley was well-written and interesting. She was involved in the family business as a brilliant chemist. I just hope that TPTB will create good storylines for her and not just a supporting role in the Abby & Tyler or Jack & Kelly snooze fests. She deserves better than that!

          • sands of time

Eileen does not want a good story. If she does she would have stayed at DAYS. She’s fickle!

          • Andrew Hass

I’m sure Eileen Davidson wants a good story but she may also not want one that takes up too much of the show because the bigger the story is the more she’ll be used.Yeah DOOL could have made her an offer in which she only had to work 2-3 days a week. However during those days of taping she might have do a lot of scenes and could tire her out.Eileen is 55 and she might be at an age where she doesn’t care about certain things anymore and just wants to enjoy life.So Y&R was willing to give her what she needed in terms of her personal life.

          • sands of time

            Exactly.

          • TV&MovieBuff

I have many favorites on soaps who deserve more than what they are getting, but it gives me comfort to see them in whatever capacity they are seen. In particular I love Susan Seaforth Hayes on Days and she definitely deserves more than what the writers have given her for several years now. But when she does show up it is just great to have that feel of her on the show. Eileen Davidson deserves to be used more on Y&R but for now I will take what I get as long as she is there and it gives her the time to be with family that she wants.

  • Andrew Hass

I’m happy that Eileen Davidson has signed a contract with Y&R but i’m wondering how long it is.Plus i’m wondering if Summer’s true paternity is revealed and Ashley comes back to support Jack and then she stays.

    • Bobby Kincaid

That’s all Ashley did was stand behind her brother. IMO her role on Y&R was a supporting role never like Days where she was the queen as Kristen. If Days didn’t offer her a contract on her terms then shame on them and with so many leaving the show it looks like by 2016 it will be cancelled.
Still if I were Eileen and I wanted to be a respected actress I would have stayed or tried to stay with DOOL. Ashely is as exciting as a dial tone

      • sands of time

Kristen is a full throttle character which demands alot of time. ED found the job that best suited her life at this time. However, she may regret her decision. After her most recent one year stay at DAYS, tptb had talks with Charlotte Ross to reprise her role as Eve. When Charlotte revealed she had other obligations, DAYS went with Kassie DePaiva. This tells me DAYS wants a serious actress without having to give in to so many demands that would weaken their character. Kassie is Charlotte’s replacement as Eve. Eve will make people forget about Kristen. DAYS will only get stronger. Y&R will have an actress that does not want to act. She just wants a paycheck.

        • Andrew Hass

If Eileen comes to regret her decision then the only person she can blame is herself. However maybe she wanted to be on Days full time but because they tape so far in advance she didn’t want to wait for months because she wanted to work now.Plus she said Y&R has been reaching out to her for awhile. So i’m thinking they reached out to her representatives while she was finishing her 12 week stint at DOOL.Plus i’m wondering if Sony stepped in somehow and got Eileen back on Y&R.I’m starting to wonder with James Scott and Allison Sweeney exits coinciding with when Eileen’s 12 week deal ending if Kristen will have something to do with how EJ and/or Sami leaves.

      • Andrew Hass

Maybe Eileen Davidson is happy playing a character that supports other characters and stories and not be the focus of the show. That way she might have only a few scenes per episode.Plus eventually Eileen may retire because she’s 55 now and she may want to end it where it really started and that’s Y&R.

  • Patrick Ferrando

So excited, but cautious as we know the writing is very spotty right now.
Maybe Phelps and crew will be gone by then. :-)

  • sands of time

I hope she is stuck in a crappy storyline!

    • TV&MovieBuff

She won’t care. At Y&R she has a contract and evidently it was on her terms from the SOD article. She won’t care what story she is in — she’ll still get paid no matter what and get the time off she wants.

Days had the same opportunity but didn’t.

      • David

Sean Kanan would disagree since he was getting paid but didnt like the crappy story and you pointed this out numerous times. So I guess Eileen Davidson doesnt care but Sean Kanan cared about what stories he got?

        • http://unknown.com Bexx

Sorry but a woman of Eileen’s caliber isn’t given pickle stories, or was it relish?

          • sands of time

            No pickle, but awfully fickle.

        • TV&MovieBuff

That is up to each performer to decide that. Eileen has talked about several times in interviews and stuff that she needed time to spend with her son. I’m sure that Days production schedule hinders her from doing that with the long days of taping, taping multiple shows (more than the others), and as much as Days uses her.

Whatever she gets on Y&R she won’t have to deal with that production schedule. She wants time with her family so I think with her it is more about her work schedule than what is being written for her.

        • truth

Yes..you know they are not the same person..people have different taste, choice and opinion..what a concept..wow.

    • Andrew Hass

I think you’re just mad that Eileen didn’t sign with DOOL.Maybe Y&R offered her a contract and Days didn’t.Which may mean she just wanted a steady job and she couldn’t wait to see if DOOL would offer her a contract too.

      • http://unknown.com Bexx

According to that one, Eileen hated Y&R and really wanted to be at DOOL. Glad she is back where she belongs.

        • sands of time

No, I said the performers hate JFP. Apparently, ED will not be on set long enough to take her crap. Good for her. In the end, I will accept her decision because it is her life. She does not have to work hard if she doesn’t want to. So, DAYS fans will go on without her and Y&R fans will want and never get more than what she’s willing to give, which is not much. Otherwise, she would have chose her emmy nominated, much talked about role of Kristen.

          • Andrew Hass

Maybe Eileen Davidson doesn’t care that Kristen might be the better character than Ashley but just wants to work where she knows won’t work her too hard. That’s one of the reasons that she left DOOL last year because they were using her too much and that took time away from her family.Plus i’m sure Eileen Davidson will give her best in her scenes at Y&R.

          • truth

By george you got it ! Eileen works on Daytime for decades, she had meaty storylines for years when she was younger..but time has passed and the challenging acting material is not her priority anymore..she wants a big paycheck and lot’s of time off in order to have a real family life and lot’s of time for her sons (or step-sons)..and Y&R can provide all of that for her. She knows Ashley will be a window dresser, background character but guess what…she does not care ! It is fun to play dynamic Kristen but just for a little while..after that she has better things to do..it is pretty clear. And it is HER choice.

        • sands of time

I’m sure DAYS was prepared not to mess with a come and go actress. That’s why they hired Kassie DePaiva.

      • sands of time

I’m upset that she chose a lackluster role over a meaty role. She already said she no longer wants to work hard. Ashley will be scaled down to her liking.

  • ButterflyFX

Ashley is going to stir up so much trouble. I hope it works out. These storylines need some help.

  • Bobby Kincaid

If DOOL chose not to offer her a contract she deserved then shame on them. The show sucks without Kristen and after Eileen’s short summer return I’m done with Days forever! They pulled this way to many times with Eileen and it’s their loss. Trust me once Allison is gone ,James Scott and now Eileen the ratings will show

    • Bobby Kincaid

Jennifer and Daniel are boring, Abigal boring,JJ boring, etc etc and if they think by adding Peter Reckell back is going to boost rating then think again. Bo and hope have been boring for years now. Not interested in that show anymore

  • sands of time

I hope Eve packs Kristen’s bags for her!

  • TV&MovieBuff

I don’t know why but I feel good about Eileen’s return as far as story this time. For one knowing that Phelps is at the helm of Y&R and knowing her history with women over 40, I don’t feel she would have ever pushed to get Eileen back unless they has something planned for her. I don’t think Sony would have pushed this because they made it clear they wanted her at Days, so I feel this was definitely Phelps or the writers wanting her. I look forward to seeing whatever it is.

I had kind of hoped that B&B would try to sign her again. I would be interested to see what they would do with Ashley with the new Ridge.

But look forward to what we get. I know Eileen will turn in great performances no matter what she is doing.

  • ker080

I’m sure Days offered her a contract, but honestly I can understand that YR is home for her. I may not like it, but I’ll accept it.
