    Y&R Recap: Friday, April 15, 2011

( — "The Young and the Restless" Episode Recap – Friday, April 15, 2011.

Nikki is surprised to see Victor and Diane at the restaurant, thinking the two would spend a quiet night at home as they talked on. Before Diane can muster up a comment, Jack arrives, pretending to be Nikki's date; clearly annoying the likes of Diane and Victor. Seeing an opportunity, Jack puts the new Mrs. Newman on the spot, telling Victor the information he received from her about Nick and Phyllis being in St. Martins. Victor quickly cuts the pleasantries and ushers his wife to their dinner table, leaving Jack and Nikki both delighted by the scene.

Nick and Phyllis, both hitting a dead end with trying to track Adam, have no choice but to book a hotel for the night. While they are settling in, Nick kindly starts ordering them dinner, making sure to order all of Phyllis's favorite items. She is pleasantly surprised.

On the side of the road, Sharon listens and re-listens to Adam's voice mail. Sticking to her guns in going on without him, she deletes the message and is set to leave when a woman approaches, pulling a gun on her. she demands that she gets out, get on her knees and hand over her jewelry. A second accomplice arrives and the two demand she count backwards from 500. A fearful Sharon does the countdown as the two drive off with her car.

At the dinner, Victor questions how she knew about Nick being with Phyllis in St. Martin. Diane tells him that all she did was call Nick in regards to taking Summer to the school play with her and Kyle. Feeling that she's being questioned over and over about Nick, Diane tells him that he's less that honest with her when it comes to Nikki. She points out that it is obvious to her, and everyone else that there are still feelings between the two. She wants to know why he asked her to marry him if he was going to devote his attentions to everything and everyone, except her.

Nikki, sensing that Jack is uneasy about Phyllis and Nick being together, tells him that he shouldn't worry about it. She knows her son and knows that with everything that has happened in his life, neither would cross the line. As for the exes, they enjoy dinner and the outdoor view with one another. Nick admits to Phyllis that he never wanted their marriage to end; he never wanted to lose her. Quickly changing the subject, a slightly flustered Phyllis goes to the room to grab a deck of cards for them to play with.

A nervous Adam continues to call Sharon and enters the little motel room that she was staying in. Not getting a response, he sits wondering where she could be, when he spots the three written letters. Picking up his, he opens it up to read. He is heartbroken to read that she wants him to get on with his life and that even though she truly will always love him, the two of them can no longer be together.

Victor apologizes for his behavior toward Diane and tells her that she truly has been there for him. She tells him that she knows that he was going through a lot at the time that they married, but she wants to be there for him, always. When he asks her why she agreed to marry him, she tells him that he's one of the few that truly believe in her and his generosity toward her won her over.

Jack notices that Nikki can't shake her bitter feelings about Diane and Victor being married. He tells her that she's going to have to do whatever it takes to get over the man; after all, he married someone else. Nikki realizes that he is right, but admits that their history is complicated. The two share ginger ales together, but when Nikki spots a bottle of vodka, she promptly excuses herself to head to the ladies room. Once gone, a lady comes up to Jack with flirty words, asking to sit with him.

Sex is in the air when Nick and Phyllis give in to their sexual tension and hit the sheets; while back in Genoa City, Victor and Diane get hot and heavy, but clearly have their respective others on the brain.

While Sharon is having something to eat at a small diner, Adam, who's still at the motel gets news from the motel owner that he just heard on the radio that a car fitting Sharon's description was just reported being in a car accident.

Grabbing her food to go, Sharon's attentions are piqued when she overhears the news report that there was a car accident and that one fatality has been discovered. Adam, who is driving to the location, is stunned to hear that it looks as if Sharon was the one that was killed in the car accident. Adam falls to his knees at the 'loss' of the woman he loves.

On the Next The Young and the Restless…

My View of Llanview: April 15 Edition

My View of Llanview: April 15 Edition

( — “One Life to Live” learns to take the good with the bad….even when the bad outweighs the good.

(NOTE: This column was written on the evening of April 14th, less than 24 hours before the news of “One Life to Live’s” cancellation broke. I will talk more about that in a special edition of the column this weekend).

While watching “One Life to Live” the past few weeks, two things in particular have really stood out in my mind.  The first has to do with the uncharacteristic way the character of Charlie is being written off the show, while the other deals with bad acting sabotaging good storylines.

For those of us who watched Viki and Charlie’s romance blossom a few years back in Paris, Texas, the character assassination of Charlie at the hands of the “One Life” writers is difficult to fathom. Having him fall in love with his wife’s sworn adversary is never a good soap plot anyway, but in this case, it is especially bad. It’s as if Brian Kerwin, the actor behind the role, pissed in someone’s Cheerio’s or something. Why else would they write his character off the show in the way that they have. From what we have been shown and told about Charlie’s past since he first came onto the canvas, having an affair seems total out of character for him. What’s next?  Are they going to turn him into a bisexual serial killer district attorney like they did with Daniel Colson? Or maybe have him switch paternity test results like they did with Clint and Marty? They’ve destroyed Charlie’s character so much already, why not just finish the job and put him out of his misery? However, at least some good did come out this….it has given Erika Slezak (Viki) some juicy material to work with.

Moving on, what is up with all the bad acting on “One Life to Live” lately? Their apparent desire to flood the cast with pretty faces has seemingly backfired once again by several actors who seem intent on “hamming up” what should be serious scenes. Take the bullying storyline for example and the questionable acting choices of John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) and Farah Fath (Gigi). Between his inappropriate facial expressions and her screaming, the scenes with Shane (Austin Williams) on the roof, threatening to jump did lose some of their intensity. And yes, I get that they are supposed to playing hysterical parents whose son is about to commit suicide, but even so, their performances feel flat. Much the same can be said for Andrew Trischitta (Jack Manning), who seems uninterested in what is going on around him. Instead of just reciting his lines, more or less, he needs to put more emotion into it. Personally, I think the only person really knocking this story out of the park is Austin Williams. His performance is much more believe than anyone else involved…..which, unfortunately, isn’t saying a whole lot. But still, I think Austin is doing a great job, and deserves a great deal of credit for helping save this particular storyline.

However, as bad as those discussed above can be, they all pale in comparison to the terrible acting of Kourtney Kardashian in her “OLTL” debut on March 28. Kardashian herself has stated several times that she is not an actor and, after watching her spend a day in Llanview, I can agree with her, which is shocking and even a little scary, because I would have never have imagined having something in common with Kourtney Kardashian. But her performance on the show makes Pee-Wee Herman look like a classically trained actor. She was just that bad. And the monotone delivery of her lines was reminiscent of those boring high school teacher’s whose classes we all slept through at one time or another. At least her one and only episode will soon be forgotten, just as long as the show doesn’t plan a repeat performance with the socialite. Which leaves me wondering who’s idea it was to even invite her to appear on the show in the first place. Someone must have thought it was a good idea, after all. As scary as that is, it is even more frightening to ponder what they have planned next. Maybe Snooki will come to Llanview next, or Charlie Sheen, or perhaps even Sarah Palin. I mean, it’s not like any of those people could be any worse that Kourtney Kardashian, right?

Congratulations to “CBRVA,” who correctly identified last time’s mystery “OLTL” celebrity guest star, which was “Murphy Brown” and “Hope & Faith” star Faith Ford.

In case you missed the clues, here they are:

Before going ‘Brown’ and finding her ‘Hope,’ this actress played a preppy Llanview socialite back in the 1980s.

Now it’s time to play another round of “Llanview, Who Am I?,” a new feature where you have to use the clues to figure out the identity of some mystery future celebrity from “OLTL’s” past. See if you can figure it out. Good luck!!!

This model turned actor played a ‘Gardner’ in the mid 1980′s, before jumping out of daytime and into a successful primetime series.

So who is this mystery group from the past? I’ll have the answers in the April 30th edition of My View of Llanview. And don’t forget to check out my Twitter page for all the latest “OLTL” news and information at SON.

Now, before I wrap up this column, I’m going to look into my crystal ball and give you a quick sneak peek at a few things coming up a few weeks down the road. These are for the week of May 2nd. Will wedding bells be ringing again for someone? A confession is made. A teen searches for a family member. And one person tries to put the moves on an old flame.

Well that’s concludes yet another column. Hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy the warmer weather and have a great Easter. And until next time remember, we only have “One Life to Live”…

              Y&R Recap: Thursday, April 14, 2011

( — "The Young and the Restless" Episode Recap – Thursday, April 14, 2011.

              IT HAPPENED TODAY…

A concerned Adam wants to make sure that Sharon can hold on and meet with him at the location in Sedona as they discussed. Still distraught and scared over her actions, Sharon promises him that they will be together. In the other hotel suite, Phyllis and Nick try their hardest to hear what Adam is saying in the other room.

Ashley and Tucker are spending quality time together at Gloworm, when he gets a page for a business meeting. She tells him while he is doing his business meeting, she's going to pay a visit out at the ranch. A concerned Tucker probes to find out what's going on, but she stays mum.

Victor disregards Diane's request to spend time together. Knowing that she's still in the doghouse with him, regarding Nick, she tells him that she thinks it's time she came clear. She tells half truths about her spending time with Nick, only having dinner with him from time to time. Victor pretends to buy her story. Diane tells him she's going to run a few errands and bring back dinner for the two of them. When she's out of the door, Victor calls to have someone follow Diane and report back on where she is going.

Sharon finds a little motel to stay out. Once inside, she begins to write farewell letters to Noah, Faith, Nick and Adam. As she is writing, she remembers both the good times and the trying times she's had with each person she's writing to. In her letter to Adam, she tells him that as much as she loves him, she can't be with him. Taking off her engagement ring, she puts it on the table and leaves.

Tucker approached Victor at the athletic club. Victor tells him that he made a foolish mistake crossing him by buying Adam's stock. Tucker takes pleasure in rubbing it in, but is promptly stopped when Victor gives him a clear warning that he doesn't know what he's in store for.

Nikki opens the door to see Ashley has come to pay a visit. She tells her that after hearing about Sharon, she wanted to see if Nick needed any help when it comes to Faith and Summer. Nikki thanks her for her kindness, but tells her that she has everything under control. Ashley says that despite the differences the two of them have had, she simply wants to be there for Faith and the rest of the family if they need it. Nikki assures Ashley that she will give Nick the message once he returns home.

After Nick gets Diane off the phone and returns back to the hotel to get dressed, it's Phyllis's turn to get a phone call from Jack. She tells him that she's out of town. When Jack asks where she is, she quickly tells him that she has a lead and she has to go. When Diane witnesses Jack's perplexed look, she purposely rubs it in that she knows that Phyllis is out of town with Nick in the Caribbean. Jack turns the tables and asks why she's suddenly got Nick on the brain.

Nikki stops by with Faith to see Victor. Victor is happy to see his grand-daughter and asks Nikki to stay for a bit. The two are playing with Faith when Diane enters the house. Clearly not liking seeing the two exes together, she quickly pulls herself together and greets Nikki. Nikki, however, is not at all phased by Diane's fake sincerity. Victor walks Nikki and Faith to the door to see them off, leaving Diane to fume a bit.

Ashley meets Tucker back at the athletic club and tells him that she's going to talk to Nick about giving him a hand with Faith. When Jack shows up, she instantly thinks he's there to stir up trouble. He tells her that he's not there to stir things up but rather give his support to Tucker. After a brief moment of thinking, Tucker agrees to have Jack on his side to get even with Victor.

Managing to send Nick and Phyllis on another wild goose chase, Adam has them following him aboard a ferry. When they spot Adam, they call out to him and are stunned to see the bellboy dressed in his clothes. The bellboy explains that he was paid by Adam to dress like him. Realizing they've been had, they try to get off of the ferry but are told that nothing can be done until it turns back around the next day. As for Adam, he's already getting a private plane ready; unaware that Sharon will not be meeting him anywhere in Sedona like promised.

                  IT HAPPENED TODAY…

Caleb makes his case to Erica on why she should go with him, and then waits at the airport hoping she will show. A torn Erica remembers times between her and Caleb and her and Jackson. Erica arrives for the rehearsal and sees Jack at the altar but before she can do anything someone puts a cloth over her mouth and she passes out. No one sees what happened and when she doesn’t show Kendall and Bianca go off looking for her. Opal tells Jack she might not have showed up because of Caleb.

The tension between Emma and Greenlee continues as Emma decides she no longer wants to go to the ocean now that she hears Greenlee is going too. Jack advises his daughter not to give up on Emma.

Ricky tells Kendall that Griffin wouldn’t have been denied bail if there wasn’t a strong case against him and assures her that she wasn’t wrong for ratting him out. Tad questions Liza on the real reason she won’t help him with an appeal for Griffin. Griffin is stabbed in the back and Cara watches as he collapses.

Bianca’s grateful Marissa came to St. Bart’s to tell her the good news about Reese. Marissa admits to Bianca that she kissed JR but doesn’t want to have feelings for him.

                    IT HAPPENED TODAY…

Viki is forced to confirm to Clint that her marriage to Charlie is over because of his affair with Echo. Clint refrains from telling Viki that Echo knew all along Rex was his son and not Charlie’s. Clint tells Viki about Shane’s troubles with LHS bullies. Blair is upended when Rex informs that Jack’s bullying caused Shane to attempt suicide. Jack is defensive but rattled by the fallout of his reign of terror.

Kelly relays to Dorian information she learned from Clint that Aubrey and Cutter are not brother and sister but conmen and lovers out to bilk the Buchanans. Dorian suggests Kelly use this information to land Joey. Kelly, though, has decided to wash her hands of the affair. Aubrey and Cutter each accuse the other of allowing Tess to wheedle her way into their plans. Tess and Ford continue to snipe at one another. Tess helps out when Ford is unable to soothe Ryder. Tess makes a move to further dismantle Viki’s pursuit of Ryder’s custody. Tess receives a visit from Cutter; the pair make no effort to conceal their attraction from Ford.

Tomas catches Téa rifling through his things and is forced to explain why he has a trove of information on Todd – including a fair bit about his plastic surgery. Tomas covers and presumes that Téa’s curiosity was precipitated by a talk with suspicious John.
