Ratings Report for the Week of November 4-8, 2013

As we previously reported, “Days of our Lives’” Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) revealed to Soap Opera Network that Guy Wilson will replace Chandler Massey onscreen in the role of Will Horton beginning in January 2014. And now, we have the details of the transition, including Smith’s thoughts on the controversial super-quick recast and how Wilson is fitting into the role.

When the news broke that Charles Shaughnessy and Patsy Pease were headed back to “Days of our Lives” as Shane and Kimberly, daytime fans went wild. The two halves of the show’s former supercouple haven’t been in Salem at the same time since Alice’s funeral over three years ago, so their brief return — placed right in the midst of November Sweeps — has been viewed as an early holiday present by many. But as both actors tell Soap Opera Network, their quick drop into Salem won’t exactly be merry and bright, considering a suicide attempt by their onscreen daughter, Theresa (Jen Lilley), is what brings them back to town! “Days of our Lives” Charles Shaughnessy (Shane Donovan) has been a busy bee as of late! Not only is the former “The Nanny” actor popping up in Salem beginning Monday, November 18, he’s also appearing in an episode of the Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, “The Young and the Restless”) produced Nickelodeon children’s show, “Deadtime Stories!”

On Friday, November 8, Soap Opera Network reported that SOAPnet, now the old way to watch soaps, would cease operation on December 31, 2013 at 11:59:59 ET. In a piece by the Los Angeles Times, Ben Pyne, president of global distribution for Disney Media Networks, said, “SOAPnet had a great run.” He added, “It served an audience of super-soap fans. And when given the opportunity, all of our affiliates kept the channel up and running.” The affiliates Pyne refers are the cable and satellite operators including DirecTV and Cablevision, et al that have kept the cable network on their channel listings whether a new deal with Disney and the carriers was signed or not.

In Daughtry’s new music video for the song “Waiting for Superman,” former “Days of our Lives” star Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin Reed) is seen portraying a character looking to end it all as he contemplates jumping out of the window of a high rise building.

Eric Martsolf (Brady Black, “Days of our Lives”) is scheduled to take part in the 33rd annual “WPXI Presents: My Macy’s Holiday Parade” (previously “Celebrate the Season Parade”), the NBC affiliate announced last week.

In the coming weeks a storyline involving the characters of Nick Fallon and Gabi Hernandez gets physically violent and rumors are now swirling about the possibility that as a result of the storyline, Nick’s portrayer, Blake Berris, may be leaving the “Days of our Lives” canvas.

Drake Hogestyn is not only returning to NBC’s “Days of our Lives” in the early part of the new year as his iconic character, John Black, he’s also returning to contract status with the daytime drama series. The actor confirmed his new status with the soap to Soap Opera Network during today’s “A Day of Days” fan event at Universal CityWalk Hollywood.

The ABC Cable Networks Group, a division of Disney/ABC Television Group, has informed cable and satellite operators across the United States that they will cease operating SOAPnet, the cable network devoted to airing same day episodes of “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” at night along with off-network airing rights to such shows as “Veronica Mars,” “Beverly Hills,90210,” “Gilmore Girls,” “One Tree Hill” and more. The network, which launched January 20, 2000, is expected to go dark effective on December 31, 2013 at 11:59:59 PM EST. Despite SOAPnet’s reported replacement, Disney Junior, already operating since 2012 on several providers across the country, the kids friendly network will officially replace the women’s network at 12:00:00 AM EST on January 1, 2014.

Ratings Report for the Week of October 28 – November 1, 2013

Friday, November 8 marks the 48th anniversary of “Days of our Lives,” and you better believe there’s a celebration in the works! The Betty and Ted Corday created susder is having an on-set gathering for the cast, crew and executives, and they’re working hard to make sure fans like you are a part of it!

Recasting pivotal roles always comes with a rollercoaster of equal parts praise and equal parts critique, but “Days of our Lives’” decision to recast the role of Will in what seemed like mere moments after the announcement that Chandler Massey was departing the role has seen rumblings closer to an earthquake than a mere thrill ride. Viewers have questioned whether the show’s decision to bring Guy Wilson in was a way to stick it to Massey for leaving the role he’d made popular over the last three years, and some even questioned why Massey was leaving the show in the first place. The Backlot, an online publication that calls itself the corner of Hollywood and gay, managed to snag an interview with “DAYS” co-executive producer, Greg Meng, to get the inside scoop!

“Days of our Lives’” alum Eric Winter (ex-Rex DiMera) may spend a lot of his time filming Lifetime’s “Witches of East End,” but when he and his wife, Rosalyn Sanchez (“Devious Maids”), heard about a new venture their friend, George Valencia, was starting with Judy Reyes (“Devious Maids”), they had to sign up. The project? An animated children’s show called “La Golda,” which features an 8-year-old orphan with two passions: soccer and building a better world for kids.

“Days of our Lives” fans are getting a bit of an early holiday gift: Fan favorite Patrick Muldoon (Austin Reed) is starring in the ION TV film, “Holiday Road Trip,” along with George Hamilton and Shelley Long!

In addition to casting Michael Graziadei (“The Young and the Restless”, “American Horror Story”) in the pilot for “The Lottery” (Lifetime Casts Former ‘Restless’ and ‘American Horror’ Star in Pilot), Lifetime has also cast former “Guiding Light” and “Days of our Lives” actor Wes Ramsey in its other new pilot, “Deliverance Creek,” from Nicholas Sparks Productions and Warner Horizon. The series revolves around Lauren Ambrose (“Torchwood”, “Six Feet Under”) in the role of Belle, who becomes an outlaw after trying to save her family’s land from the corrupt parties looking to take control over it.
