Just as the fall season gets ready to kick into high gear next month comes word that “The Young and the Restless” may have lost its head writer as a result of creative differences with the shows executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps. Josh Griffith, who took the reigns from Maria Arena Bell one year ago, has reportedly given notice to Sony Pictures Television and Bell Dramatic Television of his decision to leave.

Beginning with today’s episode of CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” the citizens of Genoa City will honor the life of Katherine Chancellor, whose portrayer, Jeanne Cooper, passed earlier this year after a short illness. According to the network, loved ones of Katherine’s will begin receiving postcards asking them to gather at the Chancellor Estate, where they’ll learn that Katherine died while exploring the world with her husband, Murphy (Michael Fairman).

Things are getting even uglier in the dispute between CBS Corp. and Time Warner Cable (TWC), which has resulted in 13 CBS Owned & Operated TV stations in the eight markets covered by TWC, cable networks Showtime, The Movie Channel (TMC), Flix and Smithsonian, which are wholly or partly owned by CBS, to go dark. A CBS spokesperson has confirmed reports that CBS has blocked TWC subscribers from viewing CBS.com, which would enable those affected by the dispute with a different avenue to view their favorite CBS programs.
As Soap Opera Network first reported in mid-June, CNN’s Jake Tapper (“The Lead with Jake Tapper”) will be appearing on The OnLine Network’s “All My Children,” portraying the role of TV investigative reporter Spencer Phillips. Tapper was originally scheduled to appear on the Monday, August 19 episode (prior to the announcement that each weeks episodes would be released on Mondays), but TOLN announced today that his appearance has been moved up. He will now appear on one of the episodes scheduled for release on Monday, August 12 via Hulu, Hulu Plus, iTunes and iTunes Canada.
After failing to reach a new deal with Time Warner Cable (TWC) over retransmission fees, 13 CBS Owned & Operated TV stations in the eight markets covered by TWC, cable networks Showtime, The Movie Channel (TMC), Flix and Smithsonian, which are wholly or partly owned by CBS, are now dark. The networks and stations were dropped by the second largest cable provider in America effective 5:00 PM Eastern Time, which was the most recent deadline agreed to by both parties who have been embroiled in a retransmission dispute since failing to sign a new contract in late June as the old one was set to expire.
On Sunday, October 27, Michael Muhney (Adam Newman, “The Young and the Restless”) will host “The 16th Annual L.A. Cancer Challenge” (LACC), which benefits the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. This marks the sixth time the actor has hosted the event. LACC is one of Southern California’s largest and most popular charity races with thousands attending each year.

Prospect Park’s The OnLine Network (TOLN) announced today that “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” will conclude their first seasons in the coming weeks. Per the network, “OLTL’s” season will conclude on Monday, August 19 and “AMC’s” will conclude on Monday, September 2. TOLN has also announced that future seasons of both soaps will benefit from the launch of a new, user-friendly web portal and app that will make it much easier for fans to connect with their favorite Llanview and Pine Valley citizens, which will help take them to a new level of interaction.
