On the Tuesday, October 20, 2026 episode of ‘Beyond the Gates’, logistics happened behind the gates, Hayley (Marquita Goings) rejected her reinvention, and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) was goaded into the ring.
The Way You Move
Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) visited Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), and the besties discussed Smitty’s arrest and how the suspicion surrounding him could bleed over into Martin’s re-election campaign. When Nicole mentioned that Ted had made plans to marry Shanice, Vanessa wondered exactly where Nicole stood about her ex taking that big a step; Nicole sighed that Anita had put her through the exact same paces. Nicole admitted she had been shaken, but was glad that Ted was wedding someone she respected.
As Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) joked that men only had to deal with a tenth of the wedding prep that women did, Ted (Keith D. Robinson) asked Shanice where she’d like to live. Shanice commented that her apartment was too small, and she didn’t want to be in the same hotel as Leslie. As soon as Ted suggested they take a house in Fairmont Crest, Shanice became adamant that it was a bad idea. Yet, Shanice realized that other worthy areas Ted recommended, like Garrett Park and Cattail Creek, were too far away from Garland.
Pick My Brain
Shanice worried that her taking up residence in Fairmont Crest would draw parallels to when Bill had moved Hayley into the community. Ted assured Shanice that the similarities were flimsy, though he agreed with Shanice that Nicole might have opinions about Shanice living in the neighborhood established by Nicole’s family. Therefore, he wanted to call Nicole and get a feel for where her head would be on the subject.
Nicole continued asserting to Vanessa that she had gotten over her initial reaction to the news of Ted’s engagement and had even given Kial a key to her house. Vanessa wanted to know if Nicole had made the gift before or after learning of Ted’s wedding plans. Back at the hospital, Shanice still had concerns about moving in on Nicole’s “home turf” as Ted placed a call to his ex. Nicole seemed piqued when Ted mentioned him and Shanice living in Fairmont Crest, but she soon approved the idea – and handed her phone to realtor Vanessa so Ted could make an appointment with her.
Pack Lite
Monica (Iona Morris Jackson) saw Shanice’s glum mood at the nurses station. Shanice confided to her aunt that Ted wanted her to have her dream home in Fairmont Crest, a dream she’d held since she’d been a little girl. Monica remembered Shanice’s struggles to fit into Ted’s world, which Shanice worried might be magnified once living smack in the middle of it. Shanice and Monica also granted that having Nicole as a neighbor could be “potentially complicated.”
Vanessa hung up with Ted, surprised that Nicole had so easily accepted him returning to Fairmont Crest with Shanice. Nicole acknowledged that the community had been Ted’s home for decades – though she did ask Vanessa to ensure that he wasn’t shown properties immediately adjacent to her. At Garland, the “silly grin” Ted wore told Shanice that Nicole had given him the green light; Ted asked if Shanice would all right with looking for houses near Nicole. Monica literally nudged Shanice, who smiled at Ted that he could set up viewings with Vanessa with her blessing.
Boundaries High
Dani (Karla Mosley) was happy to have some private Dani/Daddy time with Vernon (Clifton Davis) at the country club. Vernon reiterated Anita’s concerns about Nicole holding back residual feelings for Ted, but Dani relayed how she’d helped Nicole work through the shock of Ted’s engagement and didn’t foresee any additional problems. Satisfied on that score, Vernon asked into Dani’s own marriage, since he had seen Dani laughing it up with Bill during Martin’s press conference.
Seeing her father’s dismay that she hadn’t kept her promised distance from Bill, Dani revealed that she and Andre had had it out about her ex, and that she’d come to realize she couldn’t keep prioritizing Bill at the expense of Andre. She and Bill were going to run into each other, Dani conceded, but she was determined not to hurt Andre any more than she already had. Vernon was relieved to hear this and told Dani that he was proud of her.
I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson
Caroline (Ellie Wang) popped into Bill’s office with various updates – and a package that had come for him. Bill put his ear to it to make sure it wasn’t ticking, and it turned out to be a belated birthday gift from Caroline: a set of boxing gloves, meant to represent the fact that Bill might have been knocked down, but he was still in the ring. Bill was touched by the gesture and counted Caroline as one of the most important women in his life.
Later, Bill found an about-to-exit Dani at the country club and cracked that she was leaving him already. When Dani asked how the rest of his birthday had gone, Bill lamented that it had been “okay” but that he was having a hard time adjusting to living in his giant house all by himself. Dani hoped that, this time, Bill would at least find a woman closer to his age, but he made it clear that he hadn’t been on the market. Once Dani departed, Bill stared at the elevator where he and Dani had made love in the aftermath of the tornado.
I’ve Got A New Attitude
Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) stopped by Hayley’s hotel room, barely able to pull gratitude out of her for arranging the new identities she’d requested. Hayley balked when Randy recommended that she scale down her persona, as her recent mug shot was still very accessible. Randy cast her in the role of “Carmen Davidson,” who had just buried Gianni, her forklift operator boyfriend. Hayley waved “Carmen” away and was even less enthusiastic about playing out “Lois Jennings,” a librarian.
“It kills me I never got to kill him,” Hayley grumbled, saying she’d be “out of the life” and relaxing in St. Bart’s had it not been for Bill’s survival. Randy thought their being alive and splitting $1 million hadn’t been a bad deal considering, but Hayley complained about the financial upkeep on the vacation home and pouted that she might have to sell it. What she really wanted was to target some “fat cat” Hollywood executive and live it up in L.A. Randy felt it was the wrong move but gave up, replying, “You do you, boo-boo.”
