On Thursday, CBS announced that “The Young and the Restless” will kick off its 54th season on Thursday, October 8, featuring storylines spearheaded by the legendary Eric Braeden and his iconic character, Victor Newman, among others.

According to a teaser released by the network about what’s to come in Genoa City, the Newman patriarch will stop at nothing to protect his family, taking decisive control of the situation involving Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) while refusing to allow anything to threaten his son Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) sobriety. Additionally, Victor presents his wife, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), with an intriguing business opportunity that could serve as an ulterior motive to cause havoc for his nemesis, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).
Elsewhere, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) finally scores a win, but her victory forces her to decide who she truly wants in her life. Meanwhile, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Kyle (Michael Mealor) go to great lengths to keep their casual affair a secret. Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox) supports Nate (Sean Dominic) as he pursues a return to medicine. Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane (Billy Flynn) mix business with pleasure when they team up to fight Billy’s (Jason Thompson) attempt to gain control of Chancellor Industries. And, with their wedding fast approaching, Billy has little time to give Sally (Courtney Hope) the support she needs, and the pressure is mounting.
In June, it was announced that Josh Griffith was stepping down as the show’s head writer after a seven-year run, with Jamey Giddens (“Beyond the Gates,” “Days of our Lives”) and Dan O’Connor (“Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital”) replacing him as the show’s new co-head writers. Soap Opera Network has learned that material written by the duo is set to begin airing on Wednesday, November 11.
