On the Friday, August 28, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Anita (Tamara Tunie) hit the wrong note, The Impaler struck again, and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) got an eyeful.
People Get Ready
Vernon (Clifton Davis) entered his living room to hear Anita apologizing to Sharon on the phone. After she hung up, she revealed that Sharon and Tracy had wanted her to perform at a jazz festival, but, despite Vernon’s encouragement, Anita insisted that her voice hadn’t recovered from the damage it had sustained during her intensive chemotherapy. To prove it, she practiced scales in front of Vernon and couldn’t hit the higher notes.
Anita fretted that the cancer treatments had diminished her range and caused a loss of control. She thought she’d be ready to record with The Articulettes when the time came, but not if she overworked her voice now. Vernon regretted pushing his wife, though she remarked that if he hadn’t pushed, where Tracy and Sharon were concerned, she never would have mended fences with her “sisters.”
Triangle Ship
Kat (Colby Nixon) and Izaiah (Lami) were laughing together at Orphey Gene’s, annoying the arriving Eva (Ambyr Michelle), who made sure to mention that she had just seen Tomas and that Kat obviously wasn’t at the work appointment she had left him to attend. After Kat and Eva exchanged frosty pleasantries, Izaiah assured Eva that they had only been talking about ChelseaKat’s upcoming appearance at the Tokyo Fashion Collective and complimented Kat on her acumen. Once Kat left, Eva demanded to know why Izaiah was sucking up to her sister.
Izaiah didn’t think Eva should be upset about him praising Kat, prompting Eva to fume that Kat had no experience and that ChelseaKat had achieved any level of success only because of Chelsea’s connections and money. Izaiah picked up on the sibling rivalry and empathized, recalling his own with Jacob and Luke; though he had come into his own, he still cared what his family thought of him. Eva admitted that it hurt when Kat looked down on her, especially since the only difference between them was that Kat came from behind the gates and Eva didn’t. Yet Eva recognized the good in her life, including Izaiah.
The couple shared a tender goodbye when Izaiah had to get to work, and June (Jasmine Burke), who had waited on them, credited Jacob with being the catalyst for getting her off the streets. Having seen the tension between Izaiah and Eva, June advised Eva to hold on tight to him and to make sure he knew he was her everything.
The Bigger Picture
Heather (Ashley Jones) unintentionally startled Dani (Karla Mosley), who was lost in thought at the country club. Dani was surprised when Heather revealed how much she enjoyed the club’s kickboxing class since it helped her release her aggression. “I’m lethal,” Heather grinned. Talk turned to how Dani’s Vegas wedding photo with Andre going viral had led Ridge Forrester of Forrester Creations to tap them for a media campaign, which Andre had been too camera-shy to take part in. Heather was intrigued by why Andre didn’t like having his photo taken.
In the back room of the Lakeview, Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) told Joey (Jon Lindstrom) that Lia Whitmore, the former Garland chief of staff who had been instrumental in running the blood plasma ring and had become a key witness, had been found dead in her jail cell. Randy assumed that The Impaler had taken Lia out and was adamant that Joey interrogate Heather, since she was in tight with the crime lord. Joey barked that he would handle Heather and directed Randy to dig into the true cause of Lia’s death.
D’Evils
As Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Kat arrived at the country club for a session of wedding planning with Dani, Smitty (Mike Manning) saw them and relayed that Takahashi, the company whose distribution of ChelseaKat products had made it possible for Kat and Chelsea to go to Tokyo, had had the whistle blown on them for running sweatshops and utilizing child labor. Naomi joined them and immediately called Takahashi to get their take on the rumor, only to be told they would discuss it with ChelseaKat after they got to Japan.
Dani found this unacceptable, and neither Kat nor Chelsea wanted their company associated with any organization that employed such unethical practices. They didn’t want to abort their trip to Tokyo, but when Naomi learned that Fenmore’s Department Stores (out of Genoa City) were squeamish about ChelseaKat being connected to Takahashi, they realized that they had no choice but to back out. “Why do people have to suck?” a flattened Chelsea asked. “Right?” Kat came back.
Good Girl Gone Bad
Elon (Malachi Malik) approached Jacob (Jibre Hordges) at his desk at the police department and divulged that Lia had died in prison from an apparent overdose. Father and son were dubious that Lia had killed herself, wondering if The Impaler had permanently silenced the woman.
Later, Smitty found Jacob at the station and was horrified to learn that Lia was dead – especially since he had just gone to see her the day before. Jacob wasn’t thrilled that Smitty had once again acted alone; Smitty explained that he had gotten no new information from Lia. If anything, he went on, Lia had been trying to get intel from him. Jacob decided that both Smitty and Grayson needed to watch their backs with The Impaler possibly back in play, and when Naomi stopped by and got the update, she became worried for Jacob.
Joey called Heather to the casino and demanded to know whether she had reached Lia. Heather snarked that Lia was a whole lot less trouble now that she was dead, and Joey didn’t want Heather’s actions bringing the police to his door. Indeed, Elon came in, and Heather introduced herself before leaving. Then, Joey shared Elon’s disgust with the Red Market and the chaos it had caused – so Elon asked Joey to divulge whatever he knew about The Impaler, hoping to take “him” down.
I Should Have Cheated
After Hayley (Marquita Goings) came to the firm and made noise about Bill risking his stress level by taking on a new case with Naomi, she lied that she couldn’t make lunch with Bill because of a dental appointment, instructing him to eat a salad she had left for him in the break room. Bill briefly ducked out of his office but came back in time to catch Hayley on the phone with Randy, compelling him to come to Uptown right away.
Following Hayley to Uptown, Bill lurked outside as Hayley told that Randy she needed a new batch of poison – she had used everything she’d had left in the dressing she’d prepared with Bill’s salad. Bill flashed back to Chelsea warning him that Hayley had repeatedly been seen with Randy/Sammy. Randy slipped a fresh bottle into Hayley’s purse, and she gloated that she might not even need it, since Bill could be dead by the time he finished his lunch.
Indeed, Bill was eating the salad when Hayley returned to the office, and she was surprised, as he was known to cheat on his diet. Bill seemed to boil at the mention of cheating and shot daggers at Hayley.
