On the Thursday, August 27, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Eva (Ambyr Michelle) found herself in familiar situations, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) discovered someone had gotten their groove back, and June (Jasmine Burke) unwittingly made things worse for Tomas (Alex Alegria).
It Was Time For Tantrums
At the country club, Kat (Colby Nixon) was surprised to hear from Tomas that Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) had gone straight back to running his firm despite just having come out of the hospital. Tomas was hopeful that Bill’s return meant Naomi would return to her own practice, though Kat sided with Naomi against Tomas’ attempt to insert himself into Madison’s malpractice case. Kat got a call and had to leave, disappointing Tomas.
Eva was ready for her first post-transplant workout, though she grumbled about not being able to wear a crop top because of her abdominal scar. Izaiah (Lami) gently tried to persuade Eva not to push herself; Eva understood but still snarked about being reduced to lifting 2-pound weights with old ladies. When Eva arrived at the club, she found Tomas dejected and offered to talk about what was wrong, as long as it didn’t involve Kat.
Tomas complained that Naomi was edging him out at the firm; Eva saw his point and suggested he try finding employment elsewhere. After he said he had once interviewed for a position at another practice, only for Bill to promote him to junior partner, Tomas nixed Eva’s idea that he have Kat talk to Naomi on his behalf. Realizing that the topic of Kat had come up again, the two instead talked about how well Eva’s relationship with Izaiah was going, yet when they shared a parting hug, Tomas looked wistful.
Darling Nikki
Ted (Keith D. Robinson) noticed the spring in Carlton’s step at the hospital and got him to admit he had been “slayed by a siren” he had met at Uptown. Their guy talk was interrupted when Nicole suddenly arrived; she sensed a story but instead asked Ted if something was wrong with Kat, given Kat wanted to meet but wouldn’t say why. The ex-spouses hoped it didn’t have anything to do with Tomas, whom neither was particularly excited about.
Kat finally sat down with Nicole; after they dished about Kial, Kat revealed that she and Chelsea wanted to call their new purse the “Nikki.” Nicole immediately dismissed the idea, despite Kat trying to convince her that there was merit in Nicole reclaiming Leslie’s insulting nickname for herself. Nicole caught that Kat had consulted Izaiah about her concept, prompting her to ask whether the two were becoming friends. “Maybe when he and Eva break up,” Kat casually smirked.
Finally It Has Happened To Me
Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) ran into Ted once again, grinning that his hookup from the night before had been uninhibited. Ted was surprised when Carlton sighed that he’d probably never see the woman again, since she hadn’t given him her number…or his name.
Ted popped in on Nicole to find out what Kat wanted to talk about. After Nicole assured him that it had only been a business matter, she returned to asking what Ted and Carlton had been gossiping about. She expressed that she felt the men had been talking about her, and she wondered whether she should reach out to Carlton if he was having a hard time with their breakup. Ted smiled that Carlton was doing just fine, and that he was clearly moving on.
Take Me To The King
Jacob (Jibre Hordges) found Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) getting ready to put in time at Bill’s firm even though Bill had been released from Garland. Naomi wanted to be sure Bill wouldn’t overdo things and was pissed that Hayley hadn’t insisted he stay home.
June came to the firm to see Naomi about a potential legal issue, but Bill invited her to sit down for a free consultation. After June explained that Lucy, a friend of hers, was about to have her rent raised to unaffordable levels because her deceased mother’s name was on the lease, Bill recognized the property owner’s name and suggested that he and Naomi could attempt to resolve the issue pro bono. June was grateful, especially when Bill deemed her a member of the extended family because she was Tyrell and Samantha’s mother.
Later, Naomi entered Bill’s office and said she had everything handled, meaning Bill could go home. Bill refused, so Naomi let up out of fear of spiking his heart rate. Bill relayed how June had advocated for Lucy and also resisted Naomi handling that matter alone, since he relished the idea of playing good cop for a change. Father and daughter began exploring avenues for proceeding, after which Tomas arrived, happy to see Bill recovered. Bill was curt with Tomas and pushed back their meeting in favor of working with Naomi. Tomas fumed once he was alone in the hallway.
Parents Just Don’t Understand
Bubbly June served the Hawthorne brothers at Orphey Gene’s, where the men talked about how their mother had come around to Eva and had given Izaiah sound advice on how to help Eva with her scar issue. Speaking to Jacob, Izaiah revealed their mother’s plan to have the whole family – sans Luke, the middle brother who was living in Detroit – over for one of her customary Sunday dinners.
After Jacob stressed that Elon truly wanted a better relationship with him, Izaiah confessed that going near the house he grew up in reduced him to the surly 16-year-old he had once been, and he worried that he might start things up out of habit. Jacob was certain that Izaiah had grown and that their parents were genuinely trying to mend things with him.
He’s Mine
Kat entered the diner and thanked Jacob for confirming that Chelsea’s stalker, Allison, was still behind bars. Jacob reported that the authorities had found a burner phone in Allison’s cell, which was how she had contacted Chelsea; Jacob was glad that Kat had allowed him to do the detective work this time instead of putting herself on the case, as she had in other instances.
Jacob had to go back to work, leaving Izaiah and Kat to talk amongst themselves. Kat told him that Nicole had rejected having the new ChelseaKat product named after her, so Izaiah brainstormed other ways they could indirectly honor Nicole with it. Their spitballing devolved into laughter…just as Eva came into Orphey Gene’s and saw them.
