On the Wednesday, August 19, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Joey (Jon Lindstrom) got deep with Izaiah (Lami), Marcel (Darryl W. Handy) wanted to set sail, and Noah (Nick Hagelin) got his foot in the door.

Monica Made Things Right

Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) were concerned when Bill wanted to complain to the chief of staff, Monica (Iona Morris), about how they’d thrown the amorous Hayley out of his hospital room. Ted (Keith D. Robinson) brought Shanice chocolates to comfort her, but the reassurance wasn’t necessary – Monica returned and deemed that the nurses had each followed proper protocol to remove the risk to a cardiac patient. Ted and Shanice decided to go to his hotel room to have fun by melting her chocolate, and Ashley took off for a planned girls’ night with Naomi.

Oh Yes, It’s Ladies’ Night

Ashley brought Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) to her darkened apartment for their get-together, but when she turned the lights on, Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) were there, surrounded by Mexican decorations. Jacob announced that he had arranged the fiesta since he hadn’t yet been able to take the trip to Mexico he’d given Naomi at Christmas. Grayson whipped up a drink he called “hot justice,” and the four toasted to each other and the evening.

Grayson was grateful to be included and thanked Jacob for keeping his word by leaving Grayson’s name out of the Red Market arrests, as promised in his immunity deal. Jacob was frustrated that he had hit nothing but dead ends in trying to apprehend The Impaler, but promised Grayson that he wouldn’t rest until he had brought those who had killed Derek to justice.

Just The Two Of Us

Joey received a surprise visit from Izaiah. After Izaiah explained how Eva was better physically but still struggling mentally because of her liver transplant, Joey recommended that Izaiah continue to be patient and understanding. Izaiah wanted to talk about his old days on the streets and why Joey had saved him from a further life of crime. Joey recalled that he’d been able to relate to Izaiah having a domineering father in Elon – like his own father had been – and had seen a chance to prevent Izaiah from making the same mistakes he had made.

Adding that he considered Izaiah a legacy of sorts, Joey told Izaiah how proud he was of him for turning his life around and wistfully said that helping him was one of the few things he had done right. Izaiah was like a son to him, Joey admitted.

As We Lay

Dani (Karla Mosley) gave Andre (Sean Freeman) a set of naughty coloring books to help them reconnect over a fun night. She also thought it would give them a chance to talk through the strain that had developed between them. Yet, Dani flashed back to telling Vanessa about having sex with Bill in the elevator the night of the tornado, and Andre was rattled when Dani opened a bottle of champagne, the same vintage that Heather had sent them anonymously.

Sensing that Andre was angry with her, Dani commented on how Andre had been out drinking the day before and apologized for prioritizing the hospitalized Bill over him. Andre brushed it off and said he had reacted like a child. The married couple decided that a night of lovemaking would be the cure for what ailed them, and they went upstairs to their bedroom to roll around in the sheets.

Musicology

Noah was disappointed when he arrived for open mic night at Uptown and discovered that the lineup was already full for the evening. When he called Kial (Greg Vaughan) to deliver the bad news, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) had the idea of holding a private open mic night for the young man right there in her living room and rounding up as many Duprees and Dupree-adjacent folks as she could to support him.

Deanna (Angela Fairley) and Noah arrived to a crowded living room, and Noah was struck dumb when he saw that “the Anita Williams” (Tamara Tunie) had come to hear him sing. After Deanna gave him a capo for his guitar as a good-luck gift, Noah revealed that he was going to premiere a song he had written about becoming open to love after a long period of pushing people away, a place he had been in after his mother’s death.

Anita noticed Noah’s nervousness and approached him to reassure him personally. When he finally sat down to strum his tune, “Fallin’,” Deanna was visibly shocked by how good a performer Noah was, and the rest of the attendees sat enthralled as well. Once he’d finished his number, Anita told him about how she was going back into the studio with The Articulettes and invited him to sit in on the sessions, as she was sure they could use input from the younger generation. Noah was floored and blubbered his thanks after Anita also offered to give him some career tips during their time together.

Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) could see how smitten Deanna was with Noah and voiced her approval. Deanna couldn’t hide her feelings but made sure to note that she was taking things slowly and not jumping in, implying that Vanessa had done so with Joey. Later, Vanessa told Joey all about Deanna’s interest in Noah, and the two concluded that Deanna would be less focused on their relationship now that she was in a budding one of her own.

Rock The Boat

Having received Leslie’s message about her need for him to prove his interest in her, Marcel brought her to Orphey Gene’s. Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) saw Eva (Ambyr Michelle) sitting alone and wanted to join her, but Eva sent her along with Marcel, as she was waiting for Izaiah.

Marcel stated that he hadn’t appreciated Leslie’s ultimatum, but when Leslie explained that she just wanted to know she was someone’s person, he softened and confessed that he needed her. As he excitedly proposed that Leslie move onto his boat with him, Leslie balked that she wasn’t a “boat person.” Marcel gruffly told her to forget he asked and left to “hit the can.”

Eva, having overheard from the next booth, rushed to Leslie and scolded her for being so rude to Marcel. Convinced that Leslie had held off because of her continuing belief that Ted would come back to her, Eva challenged Leslie to choose a sure thing over something that was never going to happen. Marcel returned, and Izaiah arrived to meet Eva – but before the couple left, Eva gave Leslie a knowing dirty look.

Taking the cue, Leslie apologized for trashing Marcel’s grand gesture. To make up for it, she – as the daughter of Barbara Mitchell of The Articulettes – would make a grand gesture of her own. Leslie stood up and, using a fork as a “microphone,” suddenly broke into song, showing off a lovely voice of her own. Marcel sat spellbound.
