About Nielsen Ratings

Rating: Estimated percentage of U.S. TV groups (demographics, households, et al.) tuned in to a specific television program during an average minute.

Methods: As of September 22, 2026, the numbers above are calculated using Live+Same Day Big Data + Panel viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m., and are courtesy of Nielsen.

Shift: Beginning August 31, 2020, national ratings include Out-of-Home (OOH) viewing. Previously, ratings did not include OOH viewing. Averages are based on regular telecasts.

Preemptions/Schedule Changes

  • The Wednesday, May 20 broadcast of “NBC News Daily” was excluded from the news program’s weekly average due to breaking news coverage. The program’s weekly average is based on four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
