‘Beyond The Gates’ Season 3: “We’re Jamming Like It’s Happening,” Says Executive Producer Julie Carruthers

On Thursday, CBS formally made its final primetime pickup for the 2026-2027 television season, giving a series order to one of the two comedy pilots it had left in contention for next season, “Eternally Yours,” which joins a robust lineup of returning favorites. The news leaves the daytime soap opera “Beyond the Gates” as the only remaining scripted series awaiting word on its future at the network.

In a recent interview with SheKnows Soaps, executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers addressed the matter, saying, “There’s no official word yet, but we’re jamming like it’s happening!” Her comments on a potential third season followed discussion on the upcoming crossover with fellow soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” which is scheduled to air in June on the network.

“It validates both of our worlds when we’re referencing each other’s characters,” she said about the crossover, noting that the opportunity to mix characters from Genoa City with those in Fairmont Crest is “a nice little gift for the audiences.” That said, things can be a bit of “a coordination nightmare!”

In May 2025, CBS ordered a second season of “Beyond the Gates” just a week after stars Daphnée Duplaix (Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson) and Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana “Leslie” Thomas) revealed on Instagram Live that they were awaiting word from the network about a renewal. “When are we gonna find out if we got picked up? We’re still waiting,” commented Duplaix at the time. “I mean, why are you torturing me? Why are you doing this?” she added with a laugh.

Unlike last year’s pickup for Season 2, a decision on a possible Season 3 is expected as early as this month, due to CBS moving its upfront presentation, where it unveils its schedule for the following season to advertisers and the press, to Wednesday, April 15, up from the traditional presentation in May.

In addition to “Eternally Yours,” CBS has also picked up dramas “Cupertino” and “Einstein,” the latter of which stars “One Life to Live” alum Melissa Fumero as the female lead, working opposite Matthew Gray Gubler (“Criminal Minds”), who plays the titular character.

Debuting February 24, 2025, “Beyond the Gates” is the first new network serial to debut since the July 1999 launch of “Passions” on NBC. It is also the first time since September 2010 that CBS has had more than two scripted dramas in its daytime lineup, following the cancellation of “As The World Turns,” which was replaced by “The Talk,” which ran for 15 seasons before it was canceled.

Among TV ratings, “Beyond the Gates” continues to outperform the final years of “The Talk,” with the former averaging 300,000-400,000 more viewers in 2026 than the latter had in 2023 and 2024.

Cast members from “The Young and the Restless” set to appear in June’s multi-episode crossover event with “Beyond the Gates” include Bryton James (Devon Winters), Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Susan Walters (Diane Abbott) and Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby, Devon’s wife and Victor’s daughter.

The ambitious storyline will see longtime close friends Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and the powerful patriarch of the Newman family, the legendary Victor Newman, reunite at a high-profile political fundraiser. In story, Victor has backed Vernon’s political campaigns over the years while Vernon has championed legislation benefiting Newman Enterprises, an alliance built on loyalty, influence, and mutual gain. Now, Vernon has asked Victor to serve as the keynote speaker at his grandson Martin’s (Brandon Claybon) fundraiser.

Friends with Martin since they first bonded in New York City after college, Kyle Abbott looks forward to attending the fundraiser after Martin extends him an invitation. Kyle will arrive alongside his parents, Jack and Diane. Abby and Devon are also on the VIP guest list and will see Devon fielding an unexpected business opportunity from Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie).

As the evening unfolds, a shocking event occurs, abruptly derailing the fundraiser and triggering dramatic consequences that will affect every guest in attendance.

Though the second-ever crossover event between “Beyond the Gates” and “The Young and the Restless,” this will be the third time the new soap opera has crossed over with a CBS sibling, following a crossover event with “The Bold and the Beautiful” in October 2025, which saw Thorsten Kaye appear as his Ridge Forrester character from the half-hour drama series.

Created and executive produced by Michele Val Jean, who also serves as showrunner and head writer, “Beyond the Gates” is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one of the most affluent African American counties in the United States, and follows an affluent Black family, the Duprees, who hold court over Fairmont Crest, a posh gated community that’s the center of luxury with wealthy residents harboring deep secrets. Behind the pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.

Joining Val Jean and Carruthers as executive producers are Sheila Ducksworth, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell and Derrick Johnson, among others.
