Fans of “Beyond the Gates” can rest easy following an announcement on Monday by CBS that the network has renewed the daytime drama series for a second season.
The news comes one week after series stars Daphnée Duplaix (Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson) and Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana “Leslie” Thomas) discussed the future of the series on an Instagram Live, wondering when the network would let the cast and crew know the show’s status beyond its current first season.
As pointed out by Mann-Grant, the news was expected sometime this month.
Since its premiere on Monday, February 24, the series has improved its time period by +48% among Total Viewers, according to Most Current and Season-to-Date ratings data released on Monday by Nielsen.
Additionally, factoring in multiplatform viewership, the show is up +67% from last year’s time period occupant (“The Talk”) and is topping its time slot competitor, ABC’s “General Hospital,” by +7% among the key Women 25-54 sales demographic used to sell ad rates for broadcast television.
Produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, the series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
Set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one of the most affluent African American counties in the United States, the series follows an affluent Black family, the Duprees, who hold court over Fairmont Crest, a posh gated community that’s the center of luxury with wealthy residents harboring deep secrets. Behind the pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.
The series is created and executive produced by Michele Val Jean, who also serves as showrunner and head writer. Additional executive producers include Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thompson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.
The cast includes Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnée Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad and Arielle Prepetit.
New cast member Keith D. Robinson takes over the role of Dr. Ted Richardson beginning Thursday, May 15.
