Over the summer, “Beyond the Gates” executive producers Michele Val Jean and Sheila Ducksworth promised a “hot male” was coming to Fairmont Crest, and Soap Opera Network can now confirm that veteran soap star Greg Vaughan is that individual.
Although character details are being kept under wraps at this time, a rep for the show notes Vaughan is set to join the cast of the daytime drama series this season.
“I think the soap opera world will be very, very happy about [the casting]. And it’s a male,” said Val Jean, who also serves as creator, showrunner and head writer, on the casting while speaking with Deadline in celebration of the show’s 100th episode, which aired on July 29.
Ducksworth echoed Val Jean’s comments, noting, “I can’t say who just yet, but I will say longtime soap fans all know and love him!”
Vaughan made his television debut in 1996 with roles on such shows as “Baywatch,” “Malibu Shores,” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” From there, he appeared in episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Love Boat: The Next Wave,” “Mortal Kombat: Conquest,” “Legacy,” “Any Day Now,” “Charmed,” “Will & Grace,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Still Standing and “Nash Bridges,” among others.
He began his daytime career in 2002 when he appeared as Diego Guittierez on “The Young and the Restless.” By 2003, he was cast as Lucky Spencer on “General Hospital.” In 2012, Salem welcomed Vaughan as Eric Brady on “Days of our Lives,” a role he would continue to portray off and on until earlier this year. He received his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination for his portrayal in 2018 in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.
From 2016-2022, Vaughan appeared as Calvin in the Ava DuVernay-created series “Queen Sugar” opposite Rutina Wesley (“True Blood”), who played Nova Bordelon. While their romance wasn’t the central focus of the series, fans enjoyed the romance that was built over the show’s multi-season run on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
