“The Chicken Sisters” has been renewed for a second season, Hallmark Channel recently announced.

With production currently underway in Vancouver, former “JAG” star David James Elliott has joined the show’s cast in a recurring role.

Based on the novel of the same name by author KJ Dell’Antonia and a selection by Reese’s Witherspoon‘s book club, the series stars Schuyler Fisk and Genevieve Angelson as sisters Amanda and Mae, respectively, who are reunited when the reality show, “Kitchen Clash,” comes to their town, escalating competition between their two feuding restaurants.

The series also stars Lea Thompson as Nancy, Wendie Malick as Gus, James Kot as Frank Jr., Rukiya Bernard as Sabrina and Ektor Rivera as Sergio. Margo Martindale narrates.

Elliot will portray a newcomer to town connected to Gus’ past, reports Deadline. Meanwhile, Erin Gibson has been upped to showrunner and executive producer after previously working as one of the show’s writers.

“We’re grateful to Annie Mebane for creating the series for television and expertly bringing to life the town of Merinac and its colorful characters in K.J. Dell’Antonia’s beloved book,” said Samantha DiPippo, Senior Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media. “The show is in great hands with Erin Gibson taking the reins as showrunner this season and we know that our stellar cast led by Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick will serve up something special for viewers.”

All eight episodes from the show’s first season were released last year on Hallmark+, the streaming service from Hallmark Media, the network’s parent company.

Beginning Sunday, March 30, the series began airing on the linear network on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET, filling the slot most recently held by “When Calls the Heart,” which recently concluded its 12th season as the most-watched and highest-rated entertainment cable program of 2025 thus far.

“The Chicken Sisters” joins a rich slate of program offerings from Hallmark, including new original movies and new seasons of fan-favorite original shows like the aforementioned “When Calls the Heart” and “The Way Home,” among others.
