After spending 14 seasons as Grisha “G” Callen on CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” actor Chris O’Donnell is returning to television to lead the cast of ABC’s “9-1-1: Nashville,” the second spinoff series from the network’s flagship drama “9-1-1.”

The new iteration received a straight to series order and will help fill the void left by the cancellation of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which ended its five season run last month on FOX.

According to Deadline, O’Donnell will play Captain Don Sharpe, described as a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Although a devoted husband and family man, Don has secrets he’d like to remain that way.

Written and executive produced by the franchise’s co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear and “9-1-1: Lone Star” showrunner Rashad Raisani, the show is set to premiere sometime during the 2025-2026 television season, with Brad Falchuk and “9-1-1” star Angela Bassett set to executive produce. Falchuk co-created the first two “9-1-1” shows alongside Murphy and Minear, while Basset was an executive producer for “9-1-1: Lone Star.”

Outside of “NCIS: Los Angeles,” some of  O’Donnell’s most recent credits include reprising his role as Grisha “G” Callen in episodes of “NCIS” and “NCIS: Hawai’i,” and playing Pete Davidson’s agent in the Peacock original series “Bupkis,” a semi-autobiographical comedy series that followed Pete Davidson as he attempts to work through unique family dynamics and the complexities of fame to form meaningful relationships.

Receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for the film “Scent of a Woman,” O’Donnell also starred in the films “Blue Sky,” “Batman Forever,” “The Chamber,” “In Love and War,” “Batman & Robin” and “Vertical Limit,” among others. His other TV credits include “The Practice,” “Head Cases,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Company” and “Two and a Half Men,” among others.
