THE NUMBERS

Due to the Labor Day holiday, most daytime broadcast shows were coded as specials on Monday, September 4, with the exceptions of “Today 3rd Hour” (1.854 million), “Today with Hoda & Jenna” (1.420 million) and “NBC News Daily” (1.125 million), all three of which aired without any exclusions or preemptions during the week of September 4-8, 2023.

For the fifth time in 10 weeks, “General Hospital” attracted less than two million viewers, marking the first time since at least 2020 that the show has seen numbers this low. The series, which is entering its 61st season on television this month, averaged 1.861 million viewers for the week, just ahead of the show’s previous low of 1.845 million viewers during the week of August 17-21, 2020*. Among Women 18-49, the series once again tied its series low with a 0.2 rating in the demo (rounded) but hit a new series low in actuals/unrounded figures (0.18 rating).

The Young and the Restless” (3.077 million) was up +102,000 viewers over last week and was up +111,000 viewers over the same week in 2020. The series also saw a small uptick in both Women 18-49 rating and Women 25-54 rating actuals/unrounded figures. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.601 million) was also up week-to-week, although just by +2,000 viewers. The drama was flat week-to-week in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating.

“The View” (2.104 million viewers) launched Season 27, which marked what appears to be a new season premiere low for the talk show despite retaining its lead over the other network talk shows and news programs in Total Viewers. The ABC talk show ended Season 26 with 2.270 million viewers tuning in.

Why we don’t have Households or Total Viewers for “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal”

*Note: “General Hospital” averaged 1.665 million viewers during the week of September 28-October 2, 2020, which would technically mark the show’s actual series low among Total Viewers. However, ABC aired an unscheduled episode on Thursday, October 1 due to a baseball rainout. That episode averaged just 1.136 million viewers. Originally, the network was scheduled to air just one original episode that week (Monday, September 28, 2020, which attracted 2.193 million viewers).

Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago, two years ago and three years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.”

Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right” and “The Talk”** aired repeats all week and are excluded from the rankings. Any data points for either show listed below are for informational purposes only and will not factor into either show’s weekly or season averages. “The View” aired repeats during the week ago period (week of August 28-September 1, 2023)
