So it’s February, and we all know Days films at least 6 months in advance. What’s the verdict? Renewed, canceled? Renewed for another two years? Change of format going forward? What are everyone’s thoughts???

I think that the move to Peacock happened to avoid cancelation and renewal concerns!

Last year when they got their 2 year renewal that included the secret move to Peacock, they announced it in March.

2 years ago it was May that we found out. This is the closest thing I have found on Days on Peacock. Subscriber count is up to 20 million Depends on how many of the 7 Million additions are watching Days and how consistent it has been . It surely is not in the millions but it doesn’t have to be since Days is cheaper than the other streaming shows.

My biggest problem with Peacock is their “exclusive” shows just don’t appeal to me at all. I joined because it was the only way I could continue to watch the Dick Wolf shows that air on NBC. They only other show I have picked up since I joined is Quantum Leap (the new one). Since NBC removed all their shows off Hulu about the same time they added Days to the lineup, there were many who had to join Peacock to keep watching Days and the primetime lineup as well. Peacock only wins in that deal if those who joined actually watch more of their lineup than a few shows.

Interestingly enough. The only original shows that have broken out on Peacock were those featuring all Black cast.

Streaming service Peacock has revealed some data regarding the viewership of its original series “Bel-Air.”

The show, which was described last week on a Comcast investor’s call as the streamer’s most successful original release to date, has reached a total of 8 million accounts, the streamer announced Monday.

“We’re elated at the positive response to ‘Bel-Air’ and that this passionate audience quickly solidified the series into the cultural zeitgeist,” Susan Rovner, chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement. “Week after week ‘Bel-Air’ captivated audiences with buzzy cliffhangers and stunning ensemble performances, led by the unmatched Jabari Banks. We can’t wait for what’s in store for Season 2.”

          https://www.thewrap.com/peacocks-bel-air-becomes-streamers-most-watched-original/

After premiering on Dec. 22, “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” became Peacock’s first original project to make it onto Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming rankings.

According to data provided to NBCU by Nielsen and exclusively obtained by Variety, “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” is ranked in the No. 5 position in an early version of Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Originals chart for the Dec. 19-25 viewing period, during which it was available for four days. (Exact information about minutes watched during this period is not yet available.)

          and

Nielsen also puts “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” as the No. 1 streaming series for Black audiences over the last two weeks. Combined with the previous record set by “Bel-Air,” viewership data seems to suggest that Peacock’s biggest successes have come not only from Black content, but from Black content that plays on nostalgia — similarly to “Bel-Air,” “The Final Chapters” follows up on the 1999 romance film “The Best Man” as well as the 2013 sequel “The Best Man Holiday.”

To that end I would suggest that Peacock bring back the 90s sitcom A Different World as a drama series. As that would be a big hit for the streamer.

That would be wonderful with at least 1 or 2 of the original stars back as regulars. The show I would most like to see NBC reboot on Peacock is their soap opera, Generations. It was way ahead of its time and I would love to see what a streaming version would be like.

          • Triumph The Insult Soap Dog on February 12, 2023 9:31 PM

I would love to see a modern-day version of Generations. The problem is that the rights were sold to BET when the show was cancelled. BET re-aired the entire series after it concluded its broadcast run and now BET is owned by Paramount. They would own those rights.

      • Triumph The Insult Soap Dog on February 8, 2023 10:07 PM

I’ve said this before and will say it again. The reason why Peacock’s subscriber count increased was because after the licensing agreements to re-air new episodes of NBC programming on Hulu ended, the head of Peacock brought those shows over to their platform. The head of Peacock specifically mentioned that in terms of the increase. She said nothing about Days.

I’ve also stated that there have been no press releases related to Days from Peacock, NBCU or Comcast since its jump to the ailing streamer.

The other important thing is that when we look at the top U.S. streamers in terms of paid subscribers. This is how it breaks down:

        Netflix: 230 million
        Prime: 200 million
        Disney+: 164.2 million
        HBO Max: 76.8 million
        Apple TV+: 50 million
        Hulu: 47.2 million
        Paramount+: 46 million

Peacock’s measly 20 million paid subscribers means nothing. Especially, when they had to bribe people with single digit subscription prices for one year. Because that kind of deal is a sign that their content selection alone is not enough to compete in the big leagues. I keep my money on the fact that in 10 years Peacock won’t exist.

I’m surprised the Apple TV+ streaming service doesn’t have numbers closed to those of HBO Max. Apple has a lot of good content and they obviously have the money to produce dramas comparable to HBO. Practically half the people I know with cell phones have an iPhone. I would expect that service to be more popular due to Apple’s mighty influence.

It seems to be because Apple TV+ is a vanity project for Apple. Apple generates around $400 billion annually and Apple TV+ accounts for less than $1 billion revenue. $2 billion on the high side. While their content investment is good. They use most of their energy to advance their tech products.

          https://techcrunch.com/2023/01/26/peacock-tops-20m-subscribers-in-q4-as-losses-widen/
Sports were the main reason for the Increase and getting their show back from Hulu. Disney+ is higher up but they also loss 2.4 Million subscribers, Hulu has had more years to get to 48 Million. Math wise Peacocks 20 Million paid subscribers means they added 7 Million in the last 2 quarters. Whether they can continue especially if the price increases, and catch up to Hulu and Paramount+ we will have to wait and see.but in this point of time it does mean something. There may have to be a UPN/WB type Merger for some of them to survive How Days is doing I don’t know as I said it’s surely not a Million in subscriber gains or it would have been mentioned by someone even Ken Corday leaking it.

Amie, Nielsen hasn’t responded to the reason for the delay in us getting them.

      • TV&MovieBuff on February 12, 2023 10:36 AM

Nielsen won’t respond. Nielsen doesn’t have anything to do with what is released to the public. They are hired by the networks, etc. to provide them with the ratings. They release them to the people who are paying for them. Whatever source that SON has is not getting them anymore so SON won’t get them until the networks, etc. decide to release them again. Nielsen compiles lots of different numbers that we the public never see and we only hear about them when the networks decides it is something they won’t to brag about in a press release.

We haven’t seen the total viewers ratings in over two months so I have a hunch we never get them back. Let’s face it, the soaps are circling the drain these days in terms of viewers and quality. Near the end there, DAYS did everything they could to discount the ratings even going so far as to say they “don’t use them” so I wouldn’t be surprised if Y&R, B&B and GH have gotten behind that mantra and prefer to keep these numbers private.

There is nothing they can do, if whomever their source was is no longer providing them or is unable to provide them, there is not much they can do.
