This week marks the final week for a while in which we’ll be able to compare the full performance of daytime broadcast versus their year ago figures as the numbers were unavailable to Soap Opera Network throughout much of March 2021 and a portion of April 2021. Regardless, we will still be able to provide a look at each show’s performance during the comparable weeks in 2020 until we sync things back up in a few weeks.

That being said, despite no sports interruptions or breaking news in play most daytime broadcast shows either lost viewers week to week or held steady during the week of February 28-March 4, 2022.

“The Young and the Restless” was the only series to see any growth among Total Viewers after falling to a season low one week earlier. The soap gained +191,000 viewers week to week and another +122,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. In fact, the soap jumped from fifth place last week in Women 18-49 to place third this week, albeit with the same rating it had one week earlier (0.39). In Women 25-54, the daytime series moved up from third place to rank second among the 13 daytime broadcast shows. Week to week the show was down slightly in the demo (0.64 rating vs 0.66 rating).

Seeing significant erosion week to week in Total Viewers, the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” fell to fourth place, edging “The Bold and the Beautiful” by 78,000 viewers. Compared to the same week last year, both half hours of the game show and the two half hours of “The Price is Right” were down by as little as -274,000 viewers year to year to as high as -472,000 viewers. The losses weren’t as significant for either series when compared to their 2020 figures.

Gaining viewers over its performance in 2021 (+11,000) and 2020 (+33,000), respectively, “General Hospital” (2.199 million viewers) was the only daytime broadcast series to increase week to week in Women 18-49 rating (+0.02) while remaining flat in Women 25-54 (0.53 rating).

Returning from a two-week hiatus one week earlier, “Days of our Lives” lost another -110,000 viewers, with just 1.629 million viewers tuning in. The last time the show attracted an audience this low was during the week of November 1-5, 2021. The soap also fell to 12th place among viewers and Women 18-49 rating (tie with “The Talk”), while barely holding off “GMA3: What You Need to Know” in Women 25-54 to rank 11th. The soap was down year to year in Total Viewers (-54,000) and down a heftier -267,000 viewers over its performance in 2020.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of February 28-March 4, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.

Note: Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke” which was later canceled, effective March 2020.
