THE NUMBERS

A week after hitting season highs in Total Viewers, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, “Days of our Lives” fell slightly in all three categories during the week of December 27-31, 2021, the final week of calendar year 2021. The soap attracted 1.806 million viewers, a loss of just -3,000 viewers compared to one week earlier, and hit a 0.28 rating (-0.02) in Women 18-49 and a 0.40 rating (-0.03) in Women 25-54. The soap still managed to see an increase of +65,000 viewers compared to its performance during the same week in 2020. In fact, the soap lost the least amount of viewers overall compared to the same week in 2019, not including “TODAY 3rd Hour” or “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” whose numbers in Total Viewers and Households were unavailable at press time.

The Young and the Restless” saw much needed improvement in Total Viewers, attracting 3.623 million viewers. The soap was up +166,000 viewers over last week and up +208,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Increasing in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating week to week, the soap placed fifth in the former category with a 0.39 rating (+0.0.3), bested by the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal,” while the drama topped “TODAY 3rd Hour” to place third in the latter demo with a 0.67 rating (+0.04).

General Hospital” improved week to week in Total Viewers, gaining +37,000 viewers. The show was flat compared to its performance during the same week last year, attracting the exact same number of viewers. The soap was off slightly in Women 18-49 (0.31 rating, -0.02) and Women 25-54 (0.49 rating, -0.02) week to week.

For the third consecutive week, “The Bold and the Beautiful” fell behind the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” to place fifth in Total Viewers. The soap was up +194,000 viewers week to week but was down -6,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Ranking 10th place last week in Women 18-49 rating, the soap jumped to eighth place with its 0.33 rating (+0.04). Meanwhile in Women 25-54, “B&B” with its 0.56 rating had the biggest week to week gain (+0.06) across all of daytime broadcast.

Overall, game shows “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price is Right” were the most improved week to week in Total Viewers, Households and the all-important female demographics.

Note: Total Viewers and Households for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were not available at press time which currently skews the rankings in those categories. Comparable 2019 numbers for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke.”
