THE NUMBERS

Thanksgiving has come and gone but in its wake, it surprisingly left most daytime shows up in Total Viewers and the all-important sales demos during the week of November 22-26, 2021, albeit most shows were rated on an abbreviated schedule due to preemptions. In fact, some shows even saw major improvement compared to their performance on the comparable week last year, particularly “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital.”

Gaining the most viewers year over year of the three soaps, “Y&R” was up +423,000 viewers while “B&B” was up +399,000 viewers. While no slouch, “GH” saw a much smaller bump, up +86,000 viewers. Outside of the three daytime dramas, only “The Talk” saw an increase compared to last year in viewers (+10,000).

Surging week to week and year to year, “TODAY 3rd Hour” topped daytime broadcast in both Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 rating among all regularly scheduled programming. However, it ranked below NBC’s annual broadcast of “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” (6.44 rating in Women 18-49; 7.49 rating in Women 25-54) and “The National Dog Show” (3.27 rating in Women 18-49; 3.63 in Women 25-54) in both viewers and the key demos. The Thanksgiving traditions ranked first and second in all key categories. “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” also surged week to week and year to year, topping all daytime broadcast shows outside of “TODAY 3rd Hour” and both half hours of “The Price is Right” in Women 18-49 rating. In Women 25-54, “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” again beat out all other daytime broadcast shows outside of the aforementioned programming and “The Young and the Restless.”

Note: Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were not available at press time. Numbers will be updated as soon as they become available which might impact the rankings shown below.

Speaking of “The Price is Right,” both half hours hit season highs last week in Women 18-49 rating. Also hitting a season high in the demo was “The View” (0.39 rating), “Days of our Lives” (0.29 rating), and the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (0.41 rating). “GMA3: What You Need to Know” tied its season high (0.26 rating).

Meanwhile, in Women 25-54, “The Bold and the Beautiful” hit a season low (0.51 rating) and so did “The Talk” (0.31 rating). The first half-hour of “The Price is Right” tied its season high (0.68 rating) while both “The View” (0.53) and “Days of our Lives” (0.40 rating) again hit a season high. With its 0.55 rating, the second half hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” is the only other daytime broadcast series to hit a season high in Women 25-54.
