It’s been four months since we first heard that Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery, “All My Children”) would be joining the cast of “General Hospital” and during that time fans have been speculating who he’ll be playing when he pops up in Port Charles. Turns out many were on the money when the actor finally makes his debut on the ABC drama series as Drew Cain (last played by Billy Miller) on Monday, August 16.

In an exclusive clip shared with Entertainment Weekly, the brewing romance of Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) is on display as the “Sante” duo are seen enjoying a tender moment together at the pool on the roof of the Metro Court Hotel. After agreeing to Dante’s offer for another drink, the PCPD Detective heads to the bar just as Sam gets a phone call from an unknown number. Turns out it’s a frantic Drew (Mathison) who is heard saying, “Sam! Sam, Can you hear me?” to which a confused Sam responds, “Drew?!” Mathison is not shown in the clip, however.

“Drew’s been on the show before with a different actor. So I’m reprising the role,” Mathison says in an interview with EW’s Editor at Large, Lynette Rice, referring to Miller who portrayed the character from 2014-2019. I don’t see Sam. I actually call her to say I’m in trouble,” He adds, “He reaches out for a good reason. She’s obviously incredibly important to him. They’ve got a child together, which the audience already knows, and that daughter is everything in the world to him. He reaches out to Sam because he really believes that help will follow.”

For more from Mathison’s interview with Rice wherein he shared how he got the role at “GH,” his contract status with the soap, his new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie with Alison Sweeney (Sami DiMera, “Days of our Lives”), the exclusive clip and much more visit the EW website.
