Just over a month since it was announced that Gina Tognoni would be departing CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” the actress has officially wrapped filming after five years portraying Phyllis Summers on the daytime drama series. In 2017, she won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal.
“Just a few photos from an incredible evening last night (more to come),” wrote Tognoni on Instagram of an event attended by several cast and crew members, past and present, as they helped her celebrate the end of a whirlwind experience. “A celebration of five years with my #YR family. My heart is Full!!”
A brief clip of Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) giving a speech honoring Tognoni was shared online, wherein the actor could be heard saying what makes the actress a lady. “A lady is elegant. A lady is kind. A lady has goodwill toward everybody.” The complete speech has yet to be shared. Additional speeches were given at the event as well by other cast members.
In anticipation of her final days on the show, Tognoni had been sharing photos on social media of some kind gestures she received from the people she was close to, including Matt Kane, the show’s publicist. “Day 1 of my last Week. My Heart is feeling the love. My respect for the craft and the space in which we create is important on every level to me. @mattykane1 My flowers Are extraordinary… like you #jerseystrong.”
The following day she revealed that her dressing room had been turned into a disco room. “@marisaloveslove Day 2 / last week . are you kidding You turned my dressing room into a disco ?!?!? 💃 😍 OK that works ! Xxx”
A final airdate for Tognoni is unknown at this time. However, she should continue appearing on screen through at least the end of the month.
